| Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:02 AM PDT Every one of us lately is seeing players leaving games, soft inting to make them end faster, straight up feeding or spamming surrender votes. Hell; every hour on this very subreddit, there's some player asking for players who vote no on surrender votes to be banned (Which, I gotta say lads, is some backwards ass crap). But I think one of the worst aspects of this mentality, and indeed a problem that fuels this mentality and causes a self-worsening cycle, is that players who act like this never take the time to learn how to play at a disadvantage. You will not win every game, that's league. Moreover, you certainly won't win every lane. A big part of this game is that losing lane and losing game are not the same, especially with so many champs scaling into the end-game or at least into team-fights. Players who fundamentally give up and stop trying the moment they're doing poorly never learn how to make the most of a bad situation, nor how to turn around games. I think a lot of players thinking the idea of turning around a game is something that just accidentally happens if your opponent messes up their lead. But that doesn't have to be the case: Playing defensively and strategically can make a win very difficult, even when your opponents have a significant lead. If you can't farm your lane safely, consider roaming or freezing. Get extra help from your team or help facilitate ganks or counter jungles. Just because you can't be in your lane without the 5:0 Kled eating you alive doesn't mean you can't contribute to the game anymore. If your opponent have 3 turrets to your team's zero, that means you can control the minions on your side of the map, you give them further to run after recalls and more space to try and cover with wards. If you lose an early inhibitor, you get to know one lane will gradually push towards your base no matter how hard you farm it. That may sound like a disadvantage, but it means you can always safely push it out and roam without worrying about your opponents freezing. The point is - always consider how you can turn a disadvantage into an opportunity. Cliched and "Saved-By-The-Bell" as that sounds, I think a lot of players recently have forgotten this mentality and that's lead to an increase in toxicity, in giving up and in negative attitudes in general. Even unwinnable games still give you experience in how to play in even the hardest situations - value those opportunities, don't come to the subredddit and complain that "Yorrick won't surrender and that makes you angry".
