    Champion Pool Megathread: October

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 04:36 AM PDT

If you need help with your champion pool, feel free to comment in this thread. Be sure to help out others by answering questions as well!

There have always been lots of posts on /r/summonerschool asking for help with champion pools. Many of these posts amount to nothing more than "What champion will carry me?" while others are more detailed, such as "I am good at __this__, what should I play if I want to do __that__?"

Ultimately, the only champion that can carry you is the one you are good at, and you get good by practicing. But some people have more success with some play styles than others. If you can't figure out your strengths and weaknesses, look no farther!

If you have any questions about rounding out your champion pool or identifying your strengths and weaknesses, post a question! Feel free to include your summoner profile if you wish. Remember that the more detailed questions will get more fulfilling answers.

Here are some guidelines for posting in this thread. You don't have to answer these questions, these are just for you to think about. Instead of just saying what champions you play, consider telling us:

    1. What are you looking for help with?

    2. Who do you currently play?

    3. Why do you play them?

    4. How do you play them? What is your playstyle? What role do they fulfill?

    5. What are you good at? What do you want to be good at?

Also be sure to check out websites like www.u.gg and www.op.gg to add some statistical basis to your judgements.

Have you thought deeply about your champion pool? Still can't figure it out? Great! We are here to help. Comment below and let us know what you're thinking.

Nobody asked for this, or will need it, probably. But I got into the loop of doing this for 4 hours. So here it is.

EDIT: Improved formatting, corrected information, added additional Tristana Clarification™ and added Senna to the list.

Thank you, everyone for the constructive feedback. I apologize for the initial state of this post. It was messy, and at times, even incorrect.

If you're interested in a different formatting of this list; look at /u/Hitoseijuro's list on my /r/leagueoflegends version of this post. Though he followed me in my ignorance saying Kindred's last two stacks were at 21 and 24 due to my inability to do grade school mathematics. :)

Tips on dying less: having a clear plan

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 09:58 AM PDT

Hey guys, i dont know if this has been written already but it really helped me so i thought i would share it. Im gonna keep it short so here's the idea:

Open up a notepad or google docs, and while ur in champ select; look at the enemy team champions while theyre locking in and just write down what CC they have and how you would go about 1v1ing them. You can also add short notes to keep in mind about that champ and then do this for all 5 of the enemy champs. For me this looks something like this:

Kayle: dash the q slow, dash/flash away when she ults and the go back in. Very potent in 1v1 so go with the team
Kayn: Dash the knockup, bait-dash the E. wait until he ults a teammate and then go in.
Zed: dash the living shadow, wait until he ults a teammate and then go in. stand behind frontline so he has to chase through the team to ult me
Caitlyn: dash the Q, bait-dash the E, orb-walk around traps. All or nothing, if you disengage afterwards she will ult you

This will be tailored towards ur champ and ur preferences, but be realistic for example i cant expect myself to consistently side-step a heimer stun-grenade, and i will have to predict-flash the malph ult cause of my ping, i cant react-flash it.

This has helped me in a ton of ways to gain some control in my engagements both in lane and in teamfight because i already have an idea which spells will come and what spells im gonna use my flash for etc.

So after some time you will have a complete list of champs strats that you can look at while entering game. You dont have to do it in champ select that is just how i like to do it, but anyways hope u get something out of this just thought i would share it.

    Peace

Tip: If you are playing a tank and want to know how tanky you were during the game, it is better to look at "Self mitigated damage" instead of "Damage taken" at post game statistics

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 01:21 AM PDT

"Damage taken" means all damage you took during the game (obviously). However, it only takes into account the damage you took after resistances and other factors (see below) - It is actually not that uncommon to see a squishy with higher amounts of damage taken than a tank. This is because squishies tend to be focused more often, and well, they are squishy. They are going to take much more damage. Thus, "damage taken" can be a misleading statistic when it comes to know how tanky you were during the game.

"Self mitigated damage" is better for that purpose. It includes all damage you would otherwise have taken but you did not, because of all your HP/armor/magic resistance, and other factors your champion possibly has (shields, damage reduction, etc). Tanks will almost always end up with tons of self mitigated damage, more than any other champion in the game. If you see you mitigated 100.000 damage during a game, it is likely that you did a great job as a tank.

TL;DR After you finished a game as a tank, looking at self mitigated damage is the best way to know how tanky you were during the game, and thus, how well you did your job as a tank.

Is there any reason Dr Mundo mid is a bad idea?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 10:29 AM PDT

Some friends and I were playing last night and played a bunch of unkillable tanks for fun, so I took Dr. Mundo mid since he usually does pretty well against AP top laners.

In every single game I got a solo kill before 5 minutes because of the constant poke with my Q's and the surprising burst damage from Grasp + Ignite. Mid-late game it didn't seem like the team missed having a traditional mid laner in place of Mundo, since he actually puts out pretty solid damage while also being very beefy. So far I've won all 5 games I've tried Mundo mid.

Gold II ADC main looking for positioning tips

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 01:49 PM PDT

Ive been playing LoL for a very long time. im not great at cs and my mechanics arent super fast but i have always been amazing at positioning especially in team fights.
Honestly with the last dozen reworks and champ releases i am lost as to where i need to be.
Champs now have 3 to 4 gap closers or a mix of gap close and hard cc (kled, camille, akali, qiyana, aatrox, pike..etc)
my original strategy was to keep whoever was closest in my maximum effective range and then fight front to back but now even if im positioned 650 to 500 from the closest enemy, blow flash and any escape i have they still cut right too me.
The way i have adjusted this season is to just afk farm push waves and pray i can get so fed i win by default.
Do any high elo players have advise for positioning in team fights or am i at the mercy of my team?

How do I deal with the counterpick meta of toplane

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:14 PM PDT

Every time I have to blind top, I feel like my chances of winning go down by at least 20%. Every champion I play has at least two matchups where my opponent's skill feels irrelevant unless there is a massive discrepancy.

Riven - Poppy, Renekton, Kennen Vlad - Irelia, Kled Camille - Fiora, Poppy Kled - Jax, Fiora Irelia - Jax, Renekton

Obviously all matchups are winnable, but they are ridiculously difficult to win.

Short Jungle Guide (with videos) - Rengar!

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 01:13 PM PDT

Greetings, my name is "DimebagDarrel" I play in EUW server, and this incredibly short guide will help you become a better Rengar.

Did you know the average Rengar player has 30%HP left after the first full clear of the ally Jungle?

    • Video on how to do your Jungle with 80-90%HP left. (made by the best Rengar in the world)

Imagine you've finished farming your entire Jungle camps + Rift Scuttler on the blue buff side. Now what? You're level 4. Your only options would be recall, invade the enemy jungle, or gank. If you don't feel like going to base, it is wise to know how much damage you should expect before fighting.

    • Video of level 4 full combo damage.

    Runes. Why? Because.

Laning vs late game Champs toop (Fiora, Kayle, Ect

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 08:16 AM PDT

Hello I've recently jumped back in to league I was ADC now TOP. I main Olaf and Kled. I would say about 70% of the time i win lane with a kill or 2 and 20 more CS at least. However I really struggle to beat/counter the top lane carrys mainly fiora/kayle. I ban fiora as she counters both my mains pretty well but also just scales so much more. Kayle kleptomancy even if i kill her tower in first 10 minutes she just comes to wave every so often clears and gets jung camps and eventually outscales. Without a jungle who helps me push or get herald I feel like I can't punish these passive players who just farm. I'm gold 4 currently. Should I focus on just lane mechanics or after winning focus on objectives with team? I lose so often to this.

    A few questions about gp

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:32 PM PDT

First of all I'm unranked and only play for fun but I was wondering why the pros/high elo players run grasp insaid of klepto. Because for me I really like klepto. I like the extra gold and the occasional mana poiton etc. But does grasp really outway all the extra gold of klepto, is the surviability so important? Because most of the time I can manage just fine with klepto. Also side note I know people used to run thunderlords (Electrocute) on gp for the ult burst but why is that outdated now?

Second why is he played top lane? The grasp I can understand but the only time I struggle is when I get ganked often because of the long lane and no mobilty. He's a immobile attack damage team fight carry. Why does everybody play him top.

Thanks in advance! Also excuse my English im not a forgein speaker

Edit: third question (!) Is it recommended using Q to poke/trade or get farm you couldnt get otherwise. I get it's quite situational but what would you say should be the general focus for gp in lets say a even matchup. For me I focus mainly on farm because you need the gold and you run out of mana fast and I start harrassing when I get my sheen. Is that the right choice?

How to best learn flashy melee champions?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:27 AM PDT

I seem to be unable to play melee champs :( Adc is my main role so i am used to being patient and playing safe. Also i am good with poke mages. I am generally good at poking. Also my fav is Caitlyn with her massive range. My fav melee champion is/was (didnt Play him recently) Aatrox.

It seems like the less range i have the more i suck in this game.

My future goal is to learn Irelia and/or Yasuo so i can have some fun in drafts with my friend.

How can i make this less painful as every time i pick Yasuo i go 2/10 in drafts!

Maybe i need to switch something in my brain that is so used to poke mages and adcs

Tips to win more on Kat in silver

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 12:53 PM PDT

Title says most. Posts have been taken down so I'm going to try and make this work according to critical thinking. I understand that my job as a Katarina, more often than not, is not to engage, but to follow and clean up fights with resets. What I don't understand is how to play safe early into a losing matchup such as kassadin lb zed etc. Do I sit under turret and farm? How do I keep up level? Any good advice on wave management or vids I could watch? I also struggle to stick to one champ so any suggestions on someone to pickup alongside Kat are appreciated. Now, back to the point. I struggle in hard matchups where they are ahead. What do I do if I give them fb? What can I do to catch up? I am 16 so have plenty of time to play, study etc. How much should I be playing? Should I be playing 1-3 matches a day? Should I be squeezing in as many as humanly possible? Fairly new to reddit so sorry for errors in format or other things

Really hoping this doesn't get taken down again haha. Thanks! Ign:Trisho

Edit 1: how often should I be roaming as Kat and how can I identify that I have a timer? Always find that when I shove then roam I come back to find out I lost upwards of 20 Cs

How much should I care about tier lists?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 04:19 AM PDT

A little background, I'm fairly new to the game. Only level 19 and just played my first PVP game today. Been playing co-op vs AI until today. I enjoy jungle the most.

I like Kindred a lot. Just really dig the whole vibe there, but they're only B tier at best according to tier lists I see online. Am I wasting my time? For example, when I rank up enough to play ranked will I be useless if I want to main Kindred? Or do tier lists not really matter that much unless I'm trying to be pro?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

Defensive stat runes on Junglers question

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:01 AM PDT

Up until now, I've always ran armor as my third stat rune because of the healthy clears it provides and the overall superiority of the stat over magic resist in (what i thought until know) most situations. While observing what better jungles were doing, I noticed some of them running the mr rune especially into invade matchups, the prime example being Elise. What do you guys think of this choice? Are mr runes ever justifiable of does it come down to opinions? Just trying to spark a discussion. (not all pros run mr into the elise matchup).

How do you lane with a support with no pressure

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 03:36 PM PDT

Now this might seem like a rant post but it's more looking for advice when I do have that guy who sits behind me all laning phase or chills in the brush and I get just shoved in and harassed by their support for most of laning.

I have trouble dealing with this situation and usually just come out pretty underpowered not feeding but much weaker in terms of CS and power from items then get flamed by my team as though I did everything wrong.

Is there any tricks or tips to at least minimize the impact of this

I need help with 2 match ups.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 09:17 AM PDT

Hey everyone. I'm a support main but also play mid to learn how to play agressively and fight.

Two match-ups I have problems with:

    Brand as support

    and Yasuo as mid

I seriously don't know what to do. Yasuo is always so strong. And brand has more kills than the adc in the late game and wrecks us in lane.

I play thresh support a lot.

Want to stop coin-flipping, tips for consistently doing well as mid?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 07:34 AM PDT

I'm playing a lot of mid, sometimes top these days, and I've noticed that while I'm climbing it's with a 50-50 WL ratio, which means my rank is going up but not my MMR. How can I stop coin-flipping?

I'm Currently Silver II. When I play mid, I tend to play a lot of nukers. Characters like Ahri and Fizz. There's two things that I think I'm inconsistent at that stop me from being a deciding factor in each of my games. I like to roam, but not because I generally have lane priority, so I end up missing a lot of CS. I'm not the best with timing my backs and roams so I can keep up my gold and XP. I'm always impressed with how higher elo players will stay around 10 CS per minute even while macroing in the early game. Say I'm playing a character like Ahri, who has moderate waveclear but high mana costs, and against certain characters just doesnt have the luxury of pushing. What are my options besides asking for a gank?

If I'm playing a more situational character like Fizz (no poke, just all in), how can I aggress my opponent and create the conditions I need to kill them? I know right now my mechanics aren't the best. While I can make good assumptions about where my opponent may go, getting high burst through active items and optimal use of my kit is hard for me. As of late, I;ve just not been the one whos feeding his ass off, but that doesn't mean I'm the one winning games for my team.

Plat game. I'm playing mid lane Annie. We have a tryndamere who is for some reason always grouping. The rest of the team doesn't know how to rotate around the map either. Enemy adc is split pushing. Should I in this situation be split pushing too?

What happened was that I chose not to split. I forced a fight on the enemy team. Got 3 people dead. My jungler died. I told top to go respond to adc splitpush. But to my surprise all my team backed. So I could only get 1 inhib while adc got 1 inhib too (because they took too long to back).

I felt like I had a chance of ending the game or at least getting the nexus tower if all of them didn't back. If my team is bad at map awareness and rotation and macro, should I be splitpushing instead? I wasn't sure if what I did was correct because it didn't turn out well.

What happened later was that the enemy adc did the exact same thing again and got the second inhib. And we end up losing the game because the rest of the team wants to steal elder dragon and died.

    Help me understand jungle pathing?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2019 08:30 PM PDT

I don't have very much experience in the jungle, I'm silver 1 and all I really do is clear buffs and small camps until I see an opportunity to gank. I know that it isn't really optimal to path randomly in the jungle but I don't know the specific reasons why I should be using certain paths so I have no clue what to do. Generally, I'll just always start on the buff that's on my bot side to have a better leash and because that's what I normally see people do, but then I hear streamers say things like "X champ always starts red buff" and I wonder what the reasoning behind that is and what that champion would do if red buff happens be on top side instead. I would really like to know some guidelines or a rule of thumb if there is anything like that when it comes to jungle pathing.

Dying to Fights i shouldnt take

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:32 AM PDT

    Hey there!

I've been playing league for around 1.5-2 years now. and started playing ranked 1 year ago, was hardstuck bronze at first but then started improving fast, still climbing atm in gold 3 promos now. But I sometimes keep dying to fights i shouldnt take. Sometimes the fights look okay in my mind and then they just fail,(i usualy play stuff like GP, Darius, Shen, camille) with me dying and dying, its like when you watch hashinshin but without the jungler of the enemy team.

I really want to improve on this but I dont neccisarely know how :/ any tips?

    My journey so far

    Posted: 30 Oct 2019 05:55 AM PDT

Hi there summonerschool! Long time (kinda) lurker, first time poster so be kind pls. I wanted to share my experience as a new player with no previous MOBA-like experience getting heavily addicted to this game, thought it could be useful/"inspirational" to somebody. Anyway, I started playing League of Legends during my summer break from university, more precisely at the beginning of June 2018, I immediately got hooked to the game as I usually do when I find something that really excites me. I leveled up my first account to level 30 playing support with a friend of mine who has already had previous experiences with the game. In about two months I was already playing my first ranked game (YEAH, i know, big mistake, but I am a very competitive person and I was really looking forward to test my skills on the REAL playing field). Needless to say, it went badly, and for badly I mean 2W-8L in my first 10 games of the season. I kept playing despite knowing little to nothing about macro and matchups I was playing against, and as you can easily figure out my initial WR was ridiculously low. I started watching videos, reading guides, watching streamers play my favourite champions and I slowly improved. I started from Bronze 2 and after 200 games this season so far, I managed to reach Silver 1 with a 52% WR, which if you ask me is a pretty big leap forward. I switched roles from support to mid during my journey cause I like playing flashy edgy champs with a lot of outplay potential. That's when I really began to see drastic improvements in my gameplay. I've been watching for the first time in my life Worlds this year and it's one of the most hype things I've ever experienced. I also feel like I still have to learn lots of things about the game and that's what really keeps me wanting to grind more matches and read more in depth guides. Now the real deal, despite still maintaining a pretty decent WR throughout my games (52% on average) I gain 13/14LP per win and i lose 20/21LP per loss and that makes my climb incredibly painful and stressful. How should I approach this situation? Should I wait for next season's MMR soft reset? I feel like gold rank is really close.

TLDR: I've been playing this game since June, reached silver one, and now my MMR is completely fucked pls help.

P.S: Sorry not sorry for the errors that you might have found during the reading of this very long and boring post, as English is not my first language.
