If pro players in pro games can't tell what Aphelious R is about to do, then maybe its time something about it has to change

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:38 PM PST

Im watching EG vs TSM, and twice now the enemy team lose fights/cooldowns because aphelious ult does something those players don't expect. For a company that used to pride themselves on clarity, it has to be embarrasing to have something that even pro players can't tell what is about to do

me, as a viewer, I can't tell what aphelious ult is about to do in any given moment.

Maybe add some colors to the ult based on the weapons he has so its not impossible to tell what his ult is about to do even if he was from fog of war.

I can't think of any other ability that I cant tell what is about to do even after seeing it.

A 4-year-old Jhin mechanic was removed on Jhin's 4th year Anniversary. Out of nowhere. Info inside.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 10:29 AM PST

Hey everyone! Resident Jhin main IKeepItTaco here. I've been playing Jhin since release for 4 years now and Jhin is the reason why I reinstalled league back then and continued to keep playing it. However, because I've been playing Jhin for 4 years now, I know all the ins and outs of the champion. Including all the little cool interactions and mechanics. Jhin is quite frankly pretty straight forward and an easy to grasp kit. He's not mechanically flashy so when I discovered a 4-year-old mechanic was removed. I thought I was seeing things and had to check back on everything.

What is the 4-year-old mechanic in question? Jhin's Q Dancing Grenade per kill increases the next bounce damage by 35%. Up to a total of 105%. Now a small detail that was known mostly to Jhin mains is that as long as the target dies BEFORE the next bounce then the damage would increase. You do not necessarily need to last hit the target with your Q to get the increased damage.

Example of combo: If you Q 3 minions and none of them die. Right before the last bounce connects, you can kill the 3 minions with your W or auto attacks and the final bounce would do the FULL increased damage.

Here's an old clip from 2018 that shows it in action.

Here's a set of images for exact frames from the clip to see how it works clearer.

    • The first minion dies to the Q (128 Damage)

    • The 2nd minion loses 80% of it's HP from the Q (173 DAMAGE). You can see my W is already casted to finish it off.

    • The 3rd minion dies from the Q (218 DAMAGE). So, it had increased damage here from the 2nd minion which was finished off by the W, not Q.

    • The last 4th bounce hits Lucian for maximum damage. 199 damage after accounting for Lucian's armor.

Now that you guys know what mechanic I'm referring to. I'll be showing how it works now and the possible cause of it not working anymore.

    What happened?

Here's a clip from a few hours ago where I try to explain the trick only to realize it's not working how it usually does... The damage is flat across the board with no % increased damage on the 4th bounce to be seen. I've double-checked it on the practice tool as well.

Why was it removed? How come Riot hasn't said anything?

You might've seen Vandiril's Video on how you can make Jhin auto attack traps out of his gun instead of actual bullets. Riot has seen it too, so they decided to fix that bug.

    MID-PATCH UPDATES

My theory is while fixing this bug. They created another bug that stopped this mechanic from working or they decided to remove it because it didn't match Jhin's Q tooltip perfectly. 1-2 days prior to his anniversary.. Which doesn't feel right because it's been part of Jhin's kit for 4 years. Not only that, but there has been no mention what so ever of the change to begin with. Overall nerf and sad to lose a long lasting beloved mechanic.

This isn't the first time there was an undocumented change either. Jhin's Q was changed around June/July 2019 where it could now bounce to targets in the fog of war. The same was added to several champions including Sivir as confirmed by Sneaky + Sivir mains, Miss Fortune, and others I'm missing. Overall a buff for all these champions across the board, but again. Undocumented (from what I can tell, could be wrong) and out of nowhere.

What do I hope to come out of this post?

I'm hoping it gets added back cause it's always been satisfying to pull it off every now and then. Not only that, but it's been in his kit since his release. It just feels like something was taken when it didn't have to go away.

    Thank you all for reading!

EDIT: I'm well aware this is not how Q works in the tooltip. However, tooltips have never been accurate at describing how an ability is supposed to work. There's many cases such as this one where an interaction is removed or left alone depending on how Riot felt about it. This has been in the game for 4 years with no issues and I believe it was removed due to them fixing the trap bug. I do not believe it was intentional.

EDIT 2: /u/playtestpenguin has seen this post and it'll be looked into. Thanks again.

According to the Content Refund FAQ, everyone should get a refund token at the start of the year, yet it's February and still no yearly token. I submitted a support ticket at the beginning of the year and and answer from tech support was that they don't have a clue either.

When we will get the token?

These first couple weeks of LCS have had the absolute worst champion diversity I've seen.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:12 PM PST

Legitimately almost every single game has Apheleos, Senna, Sett, TK, Lee Sin, Syndra/LB/Zoe, J4/Reksai, Ornn, and a few counters here and there.

Last season we had such great diversity, and in s10 its all been patched out...

I'd love for someone to do the math and tell us what the % of pick/ban these champs are, because it feels like its close to 100%

Soraka top is just a product of the meta...

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:49 AM PST

Top lane right now is dominated by sett/morde/darius and other low mobility melees that more or less crush other melee lanes.

So picking soraka without the intent to win lane and simply outscale them heavily is not very surprising that its effective.

You think soraka top would be playable if the meta top was riven/irelia/camille? Not a chance, she'd just get farmed by them.

This is also the reason ppl are playing more ranged in top lane, because trying to play a non juggernaut melee right now is kind of suicide when over half of the time you're going to tower hug against an overtuned juggernaut, you think ppl enjoy that? No yeah.

Nerf those champs and maybe buff champs like irelia (natural counter to those kind of cheese champs) and im sure stuff like sona or soraka top would be gone in an instant, maybe make it so frostfang doesnt work in a solo lane aswell (the other supp item already doesnt), nerfing sona or soraka when they already arent even meta in the support role (their main role) is only going to screw them further (remember when sona got hard nerfed for taric/tk sona being good? she literally got deleted from the support role thanks to that aswell).

I just had a bizzaire situation

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:57 AM PST

So, I was playing ranked, as a support Pyke. I was laning with Vayne, we got a bit fucked in early, and Vayne was blaming everyone in the team for her deaths. All in all, she and Sylas ended the game typing since min 10. I shrugged it off, and went to play another game.

There, i met Draven with a very memorable summoners name, i even made a joke about it (not gonna say it, but it had "THOT" in it) we joked around a bit, then won botlane with some pretty nice synergy. Unfortunately, we lost this game aswell, but Draven was still pretty cool at the end.

I checked op.gg after the game, to see how my winrate was affected, and i was just curiously checking last game players. To my biggest surprise, when i checked Draven, he had a game before as Vayne. And to my surprise... i was supporting him.

Long story short, this madlad changed his summoners name between games, and just... kinda changed his attitude. I'm still baffled honestly, he was ultra toxic as vayne, then changed his summoners name and became a cool, positive guy

G2 Caps living on the edge

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 11:11 AM PST

It'd be nice if Riot could somehow bring diversity to jungle (and maybe support/AD) picks in pro play.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:01 PM PST

Jungle is literally the same 4 champions over and over (J4/lee/grag/elise) every god damn season. Olaf, sej, and reksai pop up here and there when they get their yearly buffs, but overall it's insane. There are at least 25+ champions that are considered "junglers", for the love of god can we get some damn diversity? If it involves reworking champions with extremely outdated kits (Master Yi and Amumu come to mind) then do it.

It's so sad when teams are drafting and the casters are talking about which of the 3 junglers left the teams are going to choose in a pool of 150+ champions

I can't be the only one who thinks this

So I made a League of Legends heatmap viewer

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:56 AM PST

So I made a League of Legends heatmap viewer

    https://preview.redd.it/wqvhrcqvcie41.png?width=1366&format=png&auto=webp&s=040a53b2475f639a85dda1f95839ea374279d7fb

    https://demoriarty.github.io/LeagueHeatmap/

This is a league of legends heatmap viewer. It's consisted of two parts, the first part is a python script that tracks champion movements from a given gameplay video, second part is a webpage that displays the heatmap.

First of all you need to have the latest version of Python3 and all the dependencies installed (pip install whatever_package_that_is_missing).

Feed the video file to the script, or you can also input the url of a youtube video. You also need to tell it which champions are in the video, and when does the game actually start (when does login screen end). Once everything is set up correctly, you can run the script. It will first try to locate the minimap, after the minimap is located, it will start to track movements of all the champion icons on the minimap. One thing to notice is, I used a traditional pattern matching algorithm which is a little bit slow, and the optimization is also quite poor, so this script will probably use up 100% of your CPU for about 10-30 minutes depending on the video length and your CPU type. I think if I used deep learning approach it would work much better and faster on GPU, but it would need lots of labeled images to train.

After the script has finished its job, it will generate a json file, you can upload this file to the webpage to view heatmap. You can specify the time interval you want to look at, for example the first five minutes, the last five minutes, or the entire match. you can also upload multiple matches at once. For example, you can upload 10 games that has a lee sin jungle on the red side, to see which jungle path lee sin players usually take, or which lane do they prefer ganking first.

Here are some korean high elo games I've tracked, the file names are their youtube video ids.

Edit: these are actually LCK games from season9.

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bpfpHNQT2kVALNz7VMlNjiFAj9IXg8bi

the python code is a little bit messy so I didn't put it on github, If there are enough people interested I will reorganize the code and send it to your email or upload it to github.

please PM me if you're interested.

I started this project last year, worked on it for around 3 months, then slowly lost motivation and dropped it. It's not finished yet and I don't think I will finish it anytime soon.
