Why does Kalista's passive Oathsworn Bond take so long to bind?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 02:29 AM PDT

Kalista starts the game with Black Spear, a unique item. It can bind an ally for the remainder of the game, becoming Oathsworn Allies that link within 1100 units. But the bind duration is so long, you can't leave spawn on time even if you bind a teammate immediately. This can for example cause you being late to invades.

Is there any reason that the duration is relatively long, next to the animation ofcourse?

I have created a backup archive of all* of the LoL boards posts

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 02:26 PM PDT

On the 1st of March, 2020, Riot Games announced that they would be:

    1. removing the League of Legends boards
    2. not be providing an official archive
    3. not providing an online-accessible read-only copy

This was met with a not-insignificant amount of backlash; the boards have been the place where the community has engaged for several years (since at least 2013). There are several years of history in the boards; memes that have been long forgotten or perhaps are still around.

I am a software engineer in my day job. I took a few hours to write a script that would essentially scrape all of the posts from the boards and download them into an archive for the purpose of redistribution across the internet for free. what you do with this data is up to you. Perhaps you will recreate the boards?

The archives enclosed are for the European and North American English boards. I did not back up the non-English speaking boards as the resources required for me to back up the two largest boards were expensive enough. I apologize to any non-English speakers out there.

The European archive contains approximately 480,000 discussions and the North American archive approximately 1,300,000 discussions. In this context, a discussion is an entire thread: The original post plus all comments.

The European archive (eu.tar.gz) is a standard tarball, compressed with the highest level of GZip compression. Inside this tarball is a folder containing a set of files, with each file corresponding to a single board (category) and discussion:

     posts/<applicationID>-<discussionID>.json.br

Each of these files is compressed further with Brotli encryption. Brotli encryption is more CPU intensive than GZip compression but results in smaller file sizes.

This archive is approximately 725MB in size and 2GB when uncompressed.

The North American archive is formatted differently. Due to the vastly increased number of discussions and my learnings from attempting to scrape the European boards, I had to adopt a different format to be able to scrape 1.3million discussions in any reasonable amount of time.

Within the North American archive (na.txt.gz) is a single text file which is compressed with the highest level of GZip compression. Each line in that text file will be a JSON blob corresponding to a single discussion. Unfortunately, due to what appears to be a bug in my code, there are some lines that may be corrupted.

While there are only about 100 discussions missing from this archive in total when line counts are compared, you may encounter issues when attempting to parse this line-by-line. Please make sure that the parser you write is forgiving.

This archive is approximately 2.1GB in size when compressed and 12GB in size uncompressed.

I have included a MEGA link. Unfortunately, there's a cap on the amount of transfers from MEGA, so I can't guarantee uptime.

My girlfriend made this Taliyah figure for me

My girlfriend made this Taliyah figure for me

Hi, first of all I'm a Taliyah main that loves the little rock lady. She's been my favorite champion for the last 3 years and I just can't get enough of her.

Now it's story time. A few months ago I saw a post on a facebook group that was to use a picture of a hamster and transform it into your main champion. That was the hamster.

    https://preview.redd.it/zx7ubvvxd4m41.jpg?width=620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c4b741d83adb512d0a9344c64c0702461f183f93

Well, I was bored so why not?

After a few minutes I was done and posted a comment with my Hamstaliyah in all her furry glory.

A couple friends and my girlfriend saw my reply and they found my drawing funny, but that was just about it.

So, to my surprise my girlfriend decided to make me that Taliyah as a gift. That's what she gave me this week.

I'm just in love with this figure and I think I'll have to marry this girl.

The Review: Patch 10.5 Balance Change Analysis by the Numbers

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 10:56 AM PDT

Hey all, Aldonall from LoLTheory.gg here! Welcome back to The Review, where I use tables and numbers to talk about what Riot's most recent balance patch actually affected, and by how much.

Check Out the 10.5 Notes Here

A quick-hitting patch this time around, with changes to a couple recent staples who have been causing a bit of mayhem in solo-queue (Ornn, Sett), as well as buffs to old friends (Graves, Kayn), and the possible resurrection of something I didn't think I'd see again (on-hit Neeko).

    Simple Champion Changes

    Champion Role Change WR 10.4 ⇒ WR 10.5 PR 10.4 ⇒ PR 10.5

    Sivir Bottom Buff 48.25%  ⇗  49.86% 1.99%  ⇗  3.34%
    Sona Support Buff 47.91%  ⇑  52.30% 2.27%  ⇗  2.82%

    Notes:

    • Graves: Finally on the way back up? A nice WR bump and an even nicer PR bump for ole' cigar.

    • Kayn: Always fun when a buff drops a champion's WR. PR is up a good bit though, which usually means the WR boost is to follow in a patch or two.

    • Neeko: Worth keeping an eye on Neeko Top/ADC, as these buffs were huge for on-hit builds. That bot-lane WR is spicy, but the sample is just too small to say anything definitive just yet.

    • Ornn: Finally got hit with his own hammer, and well deserved, in this writer's totally biased opinion. After terrorizing solo queue for a few patches now, Ornn plummets over 3% WR and drops nearly have his PR within a week.

    • Sett: Another round of nerfs for our favorite anime villain. Looks like top and jungle were hit roughly equally, while middle was less affected.

    • Sona: Her metrics the last few patches have been more bipolar than my mental state during solo queue. her current stats seen healthy, but who knows if this is where she'll land.

Hey Guys i thaught i share a little heartwarming story that just happend to me.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 08:27 AM PDT

So my Dog Ronja just passed away today. She was a very good dog and me and my whole family cryed a lot. I started a game of flex to think about something else. But my heart still hurted very bad. So i told everyone in allchat about Ronja. Like 5 or 6 people of the game told me they are very sorry, that helped me a lot already. They said they send theyr praiers and they are certain Ronja is in Dogheaven now. After 25 Minutes i scored my first ever Pentakill on Riven and my Whole Team typed „FOR RONJA" and i felt so much warmth and i was crying tears of joy when i read it. Might be especially emotinal today, but that game just restored faith in the league community for me. I am very thankful for the time i was able to spend with this beautiful dog and i hope she will be a good girl in heaven. I hope someone got something from this too. Thanks for being part of the community.

With removal of RR would it be time to expand MSI. I propose this format with same amount of days needed but with more teams.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2020 07:29 AM PDT

Current MSI format is format consist of 3 stages. Play-in, groups stage and playoffs. My proposal only effects group stage and playoffs so I wont talk about play-in that much.

Last year MSI groups has 6 teams 3 teams from LPL, LEC and LCK went to group stage straight and LCS, LMS (RIP) played 2 strongest Wildcard teams in Bo5 to determine 3 last teams.

My plan is to give every 4 major region 2 spots for tournament, with 2 weakest regions 2nd teams having to play against 2 best wildcards to advance to group stage.

Instead of 1 big group I would have 2 groups of 4 with 2 rules. A) both groups have two 1st seeds and two 2nd seeds B) No teams from same region in same group. Possible groups would look something like this

    • LPL 1st, LCS 1st, LEC 2nd and LCK 2nd

    • LEC 1st, LCK 1st, LPL 2nd and LCS 2nd

2019 MSI had 30 Bo1 in group stage played in 5 days. This format would have 24 Bo1 in 4 days. One extra day could be used for playoffs.

Group winners would get by to semifinals while 2nd and 3rd seed would be face in quarters. This would give us 2 extra Bo5 series and 6 to 10 extra games. Playoffs would still fit weekend schedule of Friday quarters, Saturday semis and Sunday finals. So arena would only be rented for 1 weekend.

Tldr: To visualize I also drew this majestic paint picture of the MSI format
