Goldenglue Announces Free Agency as a Player and Coach

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:25 AM PDT

    https://twitter.com/goldenglue/status/1279102268315521025?s=21

I think my current situation is very odd and I would have never guessed that I would be in this position if you asked me at the end of Spring Split. My end of season conversations with Golden Guardians went very well and I was both happy with the direction the team was heading and they were happy with my performance and attitude.

One week before practice was scheduled to begin, I had a call with management informing me that there was a chance that Damonte could be joining the team and would try out for the spot depending on how their conversations with Dignitas go. At this time I was also allowed to reach out to other teams if I wanted to, but I believed my best chances for making Worlds were here. I was pretty upset because I thought that I without a doubt proved myself worthy in the Spring Split. However, I'm used to competing for my spot and was prepared to fight for it.

Practice started without Damonte joining yet, but at the beginning of practice, the team wanted to give some of the Academy players some LCS scrim time (Ablazeolive and Darshan) since they were performing well in Academy-- which I totally agree with. Ablazeolive's first scrim day was vs IMT and he got a penta kill in the first game while they crushed them for the rest of the set. The next day I played vs TSM and we got trashed pretty hard (1-4 if I remember correctly). The remainder of the week I won slightly more games playing against the same opponents, but it was very close, and at this point I was already getting subtle vibes that I wasn't going to be able to keep the spot.

In the end, the team decided to start Ablazeolive in LCS for the foreseeable future and I was absolutely devastated. I felt like I was one of the best performers on the team in Spring Split, and I had the most MVPs in our wins to show it, but it seemed like none of that mattered at the time.

Fast forward a couple days-- I was preparing myself to play in Academy and earn back my LCS spot that I thought I deserved. However, Damonte was unexpectedly allowed to try out with the LCS team because he finally got Dignitas' permission. After two days of scrims with Damonte, the team decided to use him for LCS. Now it was me vs Ablazeolive for the Academy spot.

The tryouts between us lasted up until one week before LCS started and they were really fierce tbh. We were both playing very well but, in the end, the org made a close decision to use Ablazeolive in Academy since he had less experience playing and was a younger player. Also the team was already filled with players (Darshan, Keith, and Hard) who had a lot of experience playing in Academy like me. To be honest, I was somewhat expecting this since he was younger than me and has never played in the LCS before. Nevertheless, I still couldn't believe that I went from being a key performer on an LCS team that made playoffs, despite doubt from the community, to being teamless in a span of weeks.

Golden Guardians gratefully helped me reach out to other LCS teams to look for a spot and were even willing to waive the buyout fee, as this all happened so last minute. However, I was unable to find a team to play for, as there were only a few days left until LCS started.

I've spent the last month thinking a lot about my future. I've considered what my life would look like if I kept playing, if I tried coaching, streaming, or even tried going to college. While I still want to compete, I'm now more than ever open to the idea of taking on other roles.

After talking to many friends and mentors within the industry, I've decided that coaching makes a lot of sense for me, considering my personality type and player experience. The fact that I have over 7 years of experience competing on countless teams, it makes it very easy for me to relate and talk to players. It's impossible to understand the feelings and struggles that you go through as a pro player unless you have felt them yourself. In addition, by playing at such a high level for so long, I've acquired an immense amount of game knowledge that I can apply to coaching. I think growing myself as a coach seems like a viable but also very intriguing career path for me. I could see myself becoming the coach that I always needed but was never there for me.

As of today, Golden Guardians and I have decided that it makes the most sense at this time to mutually part ways while I field offers for both playing and coaching. I'm very grateful for the time I have spent here-- I've learned a lot about myself in these past 6 months and have really enjoyed the environment here.

I'm not entirely sure what role I'll be taking on next, but I do know that I'm going to give it my absolute 100%. This is the first time I've been a free agent in around 4~ years (since I left Ember LOL) and to be completely honest it's very exciting but also equally terrifying. I hope I can find a place to grow and learn for the rest of Summer Split and also continue to develop myself both professionally and personally.

Finally, I wanted to say a huge thank you to all my friends, family, and fans who have supported me over the years. My career has definitely had its ups and downs, but the one constant has been you guys. I wouldn't be here writing this if it weren't for you all.

I have had far from the ideal pro playing career, but I've always felt like I've given it my best, and I have no regrets with how things have gone. I wouldn't be the person that I am today without having faced all the challenges throughout my career. I believe that your character shouldn't be judged based on what happens to you in your life, but rather on how you respond and grow from it.

If you've made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read this.

If you came down here looking for a TL;DR, Golden Guardians and I have mutually terminated my contract, and I'm currently a free agent looking for both playing and coaching opportunities.

Goldenglue has always been referred to as a terrific team mate by people who have played with him, has been exposed to many situations where he was not set up for success, has a ton of playing experience, exposure to good environments (C9) and poor ones (won't name names..), is well spoken and has such a terrific & professional attitude so I think pursuing coaching makes a lot of sense!

I would also love to see him possibly fill the color caster void in LCS 🤷‍♂️

Taliyah is no longer a satisfying champion because of mechanics being stripped from her kit.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 10:31 PM PDT

The New Ask Riot that came out recently inadvertently showed how unpopular Taliyah is.

So, let's talk about it. It's no secret that many people have been unhappy with Taliyah's balance state. She's had many of the mechanics that made her fun stripped from her.

The obvious one: Aoe q needs to come back

Aoe q made her feel amazing to play. It felt great killing waves and hitting multiple enemies at once. That said, it also made her a shove bot that would roam to every other lane. While fun, this playstyle was cancerous to play against so it had to go.

Suggestion: Gate her Aoe damage to her ultimate. This could be something like 20/35/50% per point in her ultimate. This will prevent her from shoving and roaming so early and even when hitting 6, still diminish her ability to do so.

Next: Return the worked ground movespeed

Most Taliyah mains rarely use the 1 mana pot shot q-if they do it's typically to last hit. The previous functionality had her restore some of the mana when used which was great to poke and to last hit. The movespeed felt great because with good placement of your worked ground, you could create a zone that helped you weave around the lane trying to hit pot shots.

Suggestion: Revert the movespeed and worked ground cooldown.

Final: Restore her status as a zone mage

Ever since her soft rework (aoe q gone, jungle Taliyah happening, etc.), she has become a burst mage. Her combo relies on landing w and if she doesn't, she typically can't kill. If she does, she almost always kills that target. This is NOT the identity of a stone weaver nor does she need to be another goddamn burst mage.

Suggestion: Pull damage out of her w and allocate the power elsewhere. -> This hurts her burst combo but maintains champions taking lots of damage when dashing over her minefield.

Let me be clear: TALIYAH WILL NEVER BE A POPULAR CHAMPION AND SHE SHOULD NOT BE DUMBED DOWN LIKE RYZE WAS.

Her depth is low for a reason, restore her previous functionality and balance from there.

Vods on lolesports needs to be better

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:08 AM PDT

As someone who lives in the US and wants to catch up with some LCK or LPL games, I don't understand how lolesports doesn't have their vods up to date. I can't watch them live and get watch rewards, and I simply can't understand how the most recent games I can watch from the LCK and LPL are from 9 and 10 days ago, respectively. How are you not immediately uploading the vods of your games? You have sites like eventvods or literally any vod channel on youtube that are able to supply vods to YOUR product in hours but you can't supply your own vods within a week?? How can you push your site as the central place to watch league games when you can't give us games in a timely fashion?

My Ryze Rework Proposal (Graphics Included)

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 12:01 PM PDT

My Ryze Rework Proposal (Graphics Included)

    Hello!

For the past 7-8 months, I've been working on a new Ryze kit. I describe it as an "alternative 9.12". Some of you may have seen previous iterations I've shared here and on r/ryzemains.

I want to do a better job of adding counterplay and balance levers than the most recent rework did (while preserving the "fun" and the skill expression). I don't expect Riot to use it; this is for my own satisfaction, and hopefully some of you enjoy it as well!

There are a lot of moving parts, which makes it really hard to get good feedback because people stop reading! I'm trying to add graphics in case that helps.

    -------------------

TLDR: Mana scalings are changed. They no longer give damage, but instead evolve Ryze's abilities past a certain bonus mana threshold. Flux autospread is removed. No more targeted root, EW slows and EWQ roots on Q hit. Shields are back, but not on EE rune charges (movespeed is only on EE). Realm Warp is replaced with a new "ramp up"-style Desperate Power ultimate.

    -------------------

    Changed Mana Scalings ("Runic Awakening")

    - Ryze's basic ability mana scalings are removed.

    - When Ryze hits 1400 bonus mana, a portal appears inside of the fountain. Ryze can click on the portal to retrieve a Rune of Power and burn its essence into the Scroll. This transforms Ryze's abilities (changes are marked below). The abilities continue to upgrade incrementally with bonus mana.

    --------------------------

    E: Spell Flux

    - Autospread removed; Spell Flux spreads like the previous version.

    - AP Ratio increased by 5%.

    - RUNIC AWAKENING: Targets hit by Spell Flux have reduced Magic Resistance for 2 seconds; 8/16/24% at 1400/1700/2100 bonus mana. The duration will refresh with added Spell Flux hits (no stacking).

    -------------------------

W: Rune Prison / Prison Flux

    - No more targeted root.

    - AP Ratio increased by 10%.

    - When Rune Prison is cast on Spell Flux (EW), it creates Prison Flux. Prison Flux slows like Rune Prison.

    - When Overload hits a Prison Fluxed target (EWQ), they're rooted for 1.75 seconds.

    - RUNIC AWAKENING: Rune Prison & Prison Flux upgrade. They Cripple the target by 20%/25%/30% at 1400/1700/2100 bonus mana while they're slowed. If the target is rooted by EWQ, Cripple is removed.

    --------------------------

    Q: Overload

    - AP Ratio increased by 7.5%

    - E and W charge different Runes. EE Runes give a speed boost.

    - EW/WE/WW Runes give a shield that decays to 0 over 4 seconds.

    - RUNIC AWAKENING: W Runes "awaken". Before this, only E will charge Runes, and Ryze can't get a shield. The speed/shield boosts scale with bonus mana.

    -------------------

R: Desperate Power (abbreviated as DP)

    - Realm Warp removed.

    - DP has a 60-second static cooldown and an 8-12 second duration (scales with rank).

    PASSIVE EFFECTS:

    - When Overload hits a champ, Ryze gets a DP stack for 4 seconds (4 stacks max). Duration refreshes with added stacks.

    - Overload's % damage bonus is restructured. Each DP stack gives Overload a % damage bonus on Spell Fluxed targets (stacks additively). Before Runic Awakening, this bonus is 20% per stack.

    - RUNIC AWAKENING: Desperate Power stacks give 30% bonus damage on fluxed targets.

    ACTIVE EFFECTS:

    - RUNIC AWAKENING: This active portion is unlocked for use. Ryze can activate DP with 4 stacks.

    - The 4 DP stacks remain for the duration.

    - E and W charge double Runes. The speed buffs don't stack, but the buff will be refreshed.

    - The shield buff is increased by 0%-50% (based on Ryze's missing health).

    - Overload casts grant 2% added CDR (10% maximum, ignoring the cap). This resets if Overload isn't cast for 2 seconds.

    COST SCHEME:

    - Ryze's mana costs double for the DP duration.

    - When DP ends, Ryze cannot charge Runes or get DP stacks for 4 seconds.

    -------------------

    SUMMARY OF ADDED COUNTERPLAY/WEAKNESSES:

    - Removed damage from mana scalings

    - Autospread flux removed

    - Root is now a setup-reliant skillshot

    - Realm Warp removed (no level 6 spike at all, really)

    - % bonus damage is changed to lower burst substantially

    - The various changes put severe limits on waveclear

    SUMMARY OF ADDED STRENGTHS:

    - Runic Awakening's various "upgrades"

    - AP scaling buffs

    - % bonus damage is higher once "ramped up"

    - Desperate Power active

All feedback is welcome! As I mentioned, I'm especially concerned with readability. I know that there's a lot to go through. Also, feel free to critique the numbers; they're placeholders, but I'm trying to make them somewhat reasonable. I'll include FAQs in a comment below. Thanks in advance!
