Free Talk Tuesday - July 14th!

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:46 AM PDT

What's up, /r/leagueoflegends? Icy back with another edition of our Free Talk threads - hope you've had a good and safe weekend out there!

The League's pranciest, flightiest and flower...y(?) fawn made her debut on the PBE last week! Lillia may be timid but that definitely doesn't mean she's not ready to hop all over your ass on the Rift. Personally, I'm a fan of her W ability - that wind-up into the BONK in the middle is going to be so satisfying, I can tell. What do you think of the Bashful Bloom?

That's not all we've got comin' our way though! Galloping alongside little miss Lillia is a whole smorgasbord of skins (and more yet to come!) We've even got another thing unlocking on Wednesday that we have no idea of so far - this summer festival is just getting started, it seems....

That's it for me for this week! The thread's all yours to chitchat amongst yourselves, now. Just remember to follow our usual FTT rules, of course: talk shop, play nice and as always, have a good week!!

People dont know when to report someone for feeding.

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 02:22 PM PDT

Disclaimer:This is just my opinion. You May disagree and thats fine.

It has happend multiple times to both me and teemates that people have reported us for feeding even if were just having a bad game even though it clearly says that you should only report someone for feeding if its intentional.

This is especially a problem for new players or for people who are trying out new characters. I had a friend that just started playing (less than a week ago) and in some of his first matches it obviously didnt go well for him and in one match 2 people said that he should be reported for feeding.

Why cant people understand that its intentional feeding you should be reported for and that you shouldnt report someone for not being good at the game.

Sorry i just needed to vent a bit since this happend to me a few matches ago

Riot is making a huge mistake by not releasing Yone before Lillia, here's why

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:49 AM PDT

So, as per usual, when a new champion is released, a 6300BE champion is dropped to 4800BE. The next champion in that list is, you guessed it, Yasuo, but the next champion to be released is Lillia. Riot is losing the perfect opportunity to make Yone be the one to drop Yasuo's tier, by such a small window that it's painful.

On a side note, Yone is lowering Vel'Koz's price, who was the login screen when I started playing, so if he didn't hit Yasuo he did hit me.

What do you guys think about it? I think it looks pretty darn good.

    A Note to Manamune Users

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:59 PM PDT

Dear Twitches, Dravens, and Kai'sas, stop building tear first.

    1. You guys are not spell casters, the extra mana does not help you win a lane compared to having 25 extra ad in the form of pickaxe.
    2. You stack tear rather slowly because you can't consistently cast spells (unlike ezreal who is reasonable to build tear first on). A completed manamune stacks reasonably faster than tear, so the stacks that a first item tear would have gotten by that point are negligable at best.
    3. If you're having mana issues on these champs, scale back on the ability usage. ADCs in general rarely have an issue with mana if abilities are used only when necessary.

I'm not advocating to stop building manamune, only that you get a pickaxe first. I've seen too many of these champs lose lane and proceed to fall behind throughout the game because they don't have the initial damage in order to keep up with their lane opponents.

Yours sincerely, an abolitionist of qq's

Edit: overestimated just how fast manamune stacks compared to tear, after testing it's not quite twice as fast but still reasonably faster and with actions that an ADC takes more often.

Tear vs manamune comparison: Tear gives 4 mana on ability cast every 4 seconds up to 3 charges. The only one of the three champions with an ability less than or even close to 4 seconds is Draven's W, which he can reset on axe catch. Given that Draven doesn't run out of mana and casts W every 4 seconds means that in a perfect world he'll complete tear in 12.5 minutes with 188 W's. Manamune does the same except it give 5 mana and procs on autos as well. So the same Draven that autos every 4 seconds (which is far more likely) will finish manamune in 10 minutes with 150 autos. Ok then, say the Draven gets 200 stacks on tear before he completes manamune. He'll finish manamune in 7.3 minutes with 110 autos instead. The 2.7 minutes saved in (in a perfect world I remind you) isn't worth the lack of AD by that point.

Why does Shen need a buff?

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 09:40 AM PDT

I'm not complaining. I'm starting to main and I been enjoying Shen lately.

In fact, he feels really strong and balanced.

    I don't think he needs a buff.

He has a 54% Winrate in Challenger.

And a 50% Winrate in platinum and above.

So I think the buffs should be Cancelled.

It might make him broken and riot might nerf him which I don't want.

Skarner buffs are highly appreciated and needed, but I'm worried his current changes may do more harm than good.

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:24 AM PDT

Skarner is finally getting some much needed love after consistently being one of the least-played and least-known champions for a fair while. Riot is tweaking some parts of his kit to make him more relevant against tankier opponents - but like with the Swain changes, some of his proposed tweaks seem to alter his kit in (possibly unintended) ways that ultimately hurt him.

I'll start with the Q changes, since that's the main area that they've changed.

Damage changed from [33/36/39/42/45% AD] to [15% Total AD + 1/1.5/2/2.5/3% of enemy max health]

This is the change that is supposed to make him more relevant against tanks. Unfortunately, this comes at the cost of being less effective against squishier targets. I think this change goes in the right direction, but Riot hit the base damage too hard so that a) Skarner's early game is even worse than it was before (which was already bad), and b) His early clear speed is also slower.

TL;DR: Ability good. Numbers not good.

Additional damage changed from [33/36/39/42/45% AD (+30% AP)] to [100% additional damage]

This change is related to the first one, and it brings something to my attention that worries me: these changes killing Skarner's diverse build options. As of right now, Skarner can viably build almost any item you can think of, whether it's AP, AD or tank. The proposed changes seem to favour taking power from Skarner's AD and AP builds (as the above change removes the AP scaling and hits the AD scaling on Q), and favours putting it into his subjectively more boring tank playstyle. I'm personally a big fan of the Triforce Bruiser Skarner playstyle and I'd hate to have to resort to building tank just because it's the only viable playstyle left.

TL;DR rito me no like ult bot Skarner gibe AP ratio plz

EDIT: It's been brought to my attention that the AP ratios were not removed. magic scorpion go brr

additional damage cooldown time increased from 4 to 5

Can't say this will make a huge difference to anything, but it's a nice change.

mana cost increased from 10/11/12/13/14 to 15 at all ranks

riot cmon man leave the early game alone, it's already dog

The only other change here is with the E, which is just a nice buff.

[Removed] Missile no longer loses travel speed after hitting enemies

Unfortunately I will need to undo 2 years of muscle memory.

That covers the changes they did do. Now I want to cover the changes they didn't do which I feel would be a lot more appreciated. I won't mention spires here because that's literally a whole other debate by itself, nobody likes the spires so fuck em

    Crystalline Exoskeleton [W]

Skarner's W is a terrible ability. It is a shield ability that is more useful for mobility than it is for actual combat. It scales off between 10-14% of his Maximum Health and has a fat 80% AP ratio on a 13-11 cooldown. So basically the only way to actually make it a good shield is to get some AP under your belt. Other than spires, this is Skarner's only form of mobility. Combining it with spires, scuttle boosts, and Cloud Drake zones makes scorpion go brrr but its barely useful enough to block jungle camp damage and half the time does absolutely nothing to save you. The bonus movement speed is also crap and because you always max this last (don't @ me Skarner W maxers, you're wrong), what would be a half-decent gank tool is left utterly useful with a pathetic 8-16% movement speed boost.

Suggestions: - Give a bit of tenacity on his shield while it holds. Only two champs have tenacity in their kits (Mundo and Garen), and Skarner struggles a lot to close the gap with his lack of mobility (like the aforementioned two champs, whose tenacity helps them with that).

    • AP Skarner

    • Increase the shield size.

    • AP Skarner

    • Remove the speed ramp-up, and just make it a flat boost.

    • AP

    • Skarner

    Impale [R]

Welcome to the main reason why Skarner isn't deleted from the game entirely. Unfortunately Skarner's ult needs some serious love because what should be a reliable CC lockdown / peeling tool is rendered useless by most of the roster. Most of which is unintended.

Skarner's ult has a small cast time. If vision on the target is lost or if the target dashes away during this time, Skarner will still play his ult voice line, will still proc effects such as Aftershock, and the ability will still go on cooldown. Despite all of what I just said, Skarner's target gets away scot-free and proceeds to oneshot your ADC. This is quite the issue in today's League when a good chunk of the roster boasts some form of on-demand mobility, and we've seen before how bugfixes on champions such as Warwick or Kled can boost their winrates by a noticeable amount.

I don't know how to end this post so #buffskarner

As an LEC fan it has been a more exciting watch to follow Yamato Cannon in LCK. While watching LCK in the past, there was no particular team to cheer for but with the current Sandbox, it has presented a deeper reason to support a team. And anyone else like me who is interested to watch how Yamato is transforming Sandbox Gaminga, I found that there were weekly updated videos in Sandbox Gaming youtube channel (which I found recently) that dives into behind the scene of Yamato's coaching process.

Hopefully there will be more interesting games and videos to come.

Please I would love something like this. A big ass toad with a giant fedora, a huge coat and a fine ass suit with a fine classy moustache.

Dont you guys miss these singular skins for champions?

Like, Riot now is all about making these skin sets with generic themes for 3~5 champions at a single time. Which, I think it's nice and all, but they loose a lot of potential at making unique skins that would match certain champion designs. For example old ones like Hazmat Heimerdinger.

    Recent Champion Designs (Not Gameplay-Wise)

    Posted: 14 Jul 2020 09:46 AM PDT

Anyone feel like Riot's character designs are kinda lackluster lately? If you read Lillia's insights you can tell they are leaning way too hard on anime stuff for some reason. It shows in recent champions as well. Yone, Sett, Aphelios, Qiyana, Yuumi, Kai'Sa are all very safe character designs designed to appeal to a super broad audience. What confuses me, is that the concept art for all these champions are always leagues above what they turn out to be. Even their VGUs have been pretty awesome, but not new champs for some reason...

Anyone else notice that Season 5- 6 had the most amazing champ designs hands down? It's like they just had this burst of creativity and ran with it. Illaoi, Jhin, Kindred, Bard, Tahm Kench, Aurelion Sol, Ivern, and Kled! What happened Riot?

TL;DR: Character designs lately have been way too safe and underwhelming compared to just a few years ago.
