Rule Updates From The Last Feedback Thread: Roster Leaks, Short Duration Content, Server Status Rule (with a sidebar update too)

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:21 PM PDT

Hello everyone! Long time no see, hope you all are doing well in this trying times.

We have a few rule changes to announce coming out of our most recent feedback thread.

Rule Change 1: Roster leaks and rumors:

    Discussion in the feedback thread

We have changed the rule from:

Only allow posting rumors from "journalistic" sources. No twitter/self-published blogs.

    To:

Allow posting of rumors from "journalistic" sources and industry insiders. Random sources from twitter, reddit, ect. are not allowed.

With an industry member defined as:

A prominent member of the esports scene such as a caster, interviewer, contractor, or team member.

Our goal with our updated rumor rule was to stop the flooding of the subreddit with rumors from every Tom, Dick, and Harry and to stop baseless and false rumors from being pushed to the community. We sought to set a uniform standard to enforce on these rumor posts, which is how we developed our initial rumor rule, which required that rumor posts had to go through an editor.

During the initial rollout of this change, it worked well. However, we realized during the Doublelift rumor that we had left out a critical group that often reports on these rumors with a decent track record: esports insiders. As such, we've opened up the rule slightly to allow for those insiders to also post rumor content to the subreddit.

Rule Change 2: Server Status Rule

    The Current Rule is:

User posts about the status of servers are allowed, but only if the issue is confirmed by Riot. The post will be removed once the server issues are resolved.

The rule is not changing, but we are adding:

In the event that the game is unplayable for at least 15 minutes (with or without confirmation), we make a mod-run megathread.

Discussion from the feedback thread that helped with this change

As users pointed out, Riot is sometimes slow to confirm server issues, and users often know before Riot that servers are breaking. We agree! So in the event of issues being sustained for 15 minutes or more, a mod-made megathread will be created in place of a user thread. This post will stay up while issues persist and will come down around 30 minutes after the issue is resolved.

One of our big motivations for wanting this to be a mod-made megathread is that we will update it as Riot confirms the issues or if we find that it is an ISP issue or something more localized. Unfortunately, a lot of users don't end up providing these updates, so this is our best option for ensuring that threads without Riot confirmation end up being updated with information.

Rule change 3: Short duration content

    Discussion in the feedback thread

For context, animated splash arts are user made, looped videos, that bring new life to a splash art. We like the content, however upon review, we have opted to enforce them under our short duration content rule.

What this means is that all animated splash arts must be submitted as text posts due to their looped nature.

    Upcoming Matches

Some of you may have noticed, but after many years, we have finally gotten the automatic upcoming matches section on the sidebar working again! Make sure you check that out!

For those out there wondering, we will have a fresh feedback thread up shortly, likely next week.

Dealing with Criminal Accusations on the Subreddit

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 07:38 PM PDT

    Hi All,

Today we are introducing a new rule under our evidence rule:

Allegations of criminal conduct are not allowed, unless it's from a journalistic source.

A journalistic source is defined as a site with an editor. This would specifically disallow for twitter, self-published blogs, twitch streams, etc.

While this is the public-facing rule that you will see in the sidebar, there is more nuance to our enforcement, which is as follows:

    • For esports related criminal allegations (like pay issues), we will allow posts about it from journalistic sources, esports insiders, and people with immediate first-hand knowledge (like players, coaches, etc). However, we still expect esports insiders and people with immediate first-hand knowledge to provide evidence to support their assertions.

    • For criminal allegations outside of esports (like sexual assault), we will only allow a link post that links a journalistic source.

If there is crossover, like sexual assault within a team, we will consider that as an allegation outside of esports and will require any post about it to come from a journalistic source.

    Explanation for this change:

Over the last few weeks, we've seen an uptick in serious allegations made against individuals in the gaming world.

Posts that callout criminal behavior are a double-edged sword and too often, the court of public opinion will decide someone's innocence or guilt without all the facts. Frankly, this puts us in an impossible situation of wanting to give voice to victims while also needing to ensure that sitewide rules against witch hunting and doxxing are upheld.

Mods are unpaid volunteers and posts like these are very much above our "pay-grade". As such, we are implementing stronger standards so that allegations of this nature are vetted by people who are actually paid to report on them.

Our goal is not to eradicate this news from being on the subreddit, but rather to ensure an extra level of fact-checking before it is submitted here.

Red Side Cannon Minions have 20 lower attack range than Blue Side ones (for 11 years, since Alpha)

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 05:20 AM PDT

I was writing a new wiki page about unit size the other day. One of the size modifiers that exists is Baron Buff, which only affects minions, but sure enough, this page was about non-champion sizes, too.

So after I set out to determine those modifiers, I also wanted to confirm the attack range increases on the Baron Buff page, which I asked a friend to get me. For the Cannon Minions, he returned '1050/1030 total range'.

I looked at those 2 values the same way you are right now. Nope, this isn't about other minions on any separate map; these are SR cannon minions. The Blue Cannon has 300 attack range; The Red Cannon only has 280 range!

As it turned out, this has been a bug since the earliest builds of the game we have access to; all the way back from Alpha! Minions are coded as separate units for both sides of the map; So are skins, technically, albeit they properly draw from the same data file for the gameplay side (the only differences are tags like 'human' and 'freljord' which VO interactions use). Same types of minions...do not draw from the same file. Not a big problem, though, as they only have to get a few values right? Yes, in theory, that isn't a big problem.

Unfortunately, in the game right now, this is an excerpt the Blue Cannon Minion data file, and this is the same excerpt in the data for the Red Cannon minion. apart from the Name ID's, notice a difference?

And indeed, in the game, these minions adhere to those range values.

[If you make 2 opposing cannons run into each other without interference, they'll not always start attacking each other at the same time like same-ranged units would](see *Edit below for why this link is missing) - instead the Blue Minion goes first a lot of times. The reason it doesn't happen always is that 'is my enemy in attack range yet' is checked only so often, which is also why attacking an enemy moves your champion slightly closer than their attack range would require most of the time. Some would argue that that is to aid in chasing/orb-walking, but I don't think it was set up with that in mind. In any case, attack pathfinding at least doesn't path you into Dragon pit if you want to attack someone on the other side of that wall that is in range of Dragon pit at the time, which would be dumb.

Edit: I got some help in re-doing the proof for this:

Using Syndra W, we can get exact range values and eliminate the 'is my enemy in attack range yet' check by throwing the minion straight from inside its range to slightly further than it was before. If it attacks without walking, it's inside its attack range; If it nudges forward first, it was thrown further than it's attack range.

Test with Blue Cannon | Test with Red Cannon

Here is a comparison for the longest throw at which the minion doesn't nudge forward (= is still in attack range) at. The difference isn't large (it's about 5% of attack range against a normal-sized champion), but you can see it via the cursor location.

Also, there's a Ryze bug that made separating these minions kinda annoying yet kind of fun. This is the reason you canot port a single Rift Herald, or a single minion period, btw (first minion takes last ported champion's position, or won't get a new location at all if no champion was ported).

I tried showing off this difference in the one patch where the new HUD showed unit ranges in the collapsed version (5.14), however minions all show as 0-ranged anyway due to ((bug)). Which is sad, maybe someone would have noticed it then already!

The fact that blue team seems to generally win when the game is left alone by players entirely might be due to this bug. Blue team also has a higher winrate overall in the game, which is often attributed to the assymetry in HUD and the map, which is reasonable, but I wonder what the impact of this bug has been on that winrate, afterall.

*Edit: Turns out the mentioned tickrates make this way too hard, and upon reviewing the best clip I have, it has minion damage increase due to my target dummies leveling up, so I'll remake this for you with a proof that's less up-to chance.

Edit2: Remade proof. Now definitive. See above.

    TL:DR: Spot the difference

Edit: Would you believe it, turns out this bug is LITERALLY fixed on PBE this cycle already. I did all this confirmation work for naught. Well, at least we know the fix will be in 10.16 (next full patch), most likely!

Ryze and the Freljord should just let both Brand and Lissandra win.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:42 AM PDT

Brand wants to use all the world runes to set the world on fire. Lissandra wants to use her iceborn black ice magic to bring the world into a permanent ice age. Instead of running around the world looking for all the runes, and sending people to die fighting the Frostguard, they could just let Brand and Lissandra do their thing at the same time, and they'll cancel eachother out and just make the whole world damp for a bit.

I think that we need some more animal and/or monstrous champs in league. As such I put forth some effort to make this guy who is vaguely a snapping turtle, but with an axe. Clearly since he has an axe he is fit for the world of Runeterra.

In an effort for him to also fit into Runeterra he is just kind of angry, probably because the people in Ionia swim a lot, and step on him while he is trying to relax. Thats pretty annoying and would certainly allow for anger.

What else would make him fit into the league world? An overpowered kit perhaps?

Spirit Blossom event is far from perfect, but it is a fresh breath after so many events that all had the same missions - and it encourages playing!

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 07:18 AM PDT

After being halfway through the event, I'm amazed with how much thought was put into it by Riot, compared to all the events we had for the last year - same missions, but with different theme and another prestige skin. It's like nothing changed from the event to event.

Personally, i didn't feel encouraged to play during previous events - nothing changed, same old meta, I just were coming back for stuff like preseason, URF or new champion releases.

Now, with Spirit Blossom, it really feels like something new - missions have a different twist on them, lore which is quite interesting, the quirky dialogues with the champions, which are all interesting and fun to explore. except for Teemo, nobody likes Teemo dialogue. However, main advantage of this event is that YOU are the character in this story, and it really feels great.

Personally, when i saw that Riot decided to do something new, i got hooked on LoL once again, and my friends did too - we all play a lot more since the event was released

Yea, it has flaws - some Spirit Bonds are much harder than others, there is no special game mode tied to the event itself (Nexus Blitz came back, but it doesn't relate to Spirit Blossom much Bring DS: Singularity back pls). Nevertheless, it is a good step in a right direction, and I hope i am not the only one, and data will show that it is worth putting resources into making unique events like that one.

    Received PAX Twisted Fate today!!

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 10:47 AM PDT

I understand this post might come off as bragging, but that's not my intention. I don't have any friends that play league anymore, as they all quit a few years back, and I really wanted to share my story.

I've been playing league for 5+ years now, and over the last 2 years I became a skin collector. In June of this year, I achieved every obtainable skin in the game, making my collection sit at 1059 owned skins. I posted a picture on Reddit, and people informed me to reach out to support and I could possibly get something special. I didn't really believe them, but did it anyways.

Support informed me that, "you should write in again when "your shop" is up, and we can do something special for you ;)". After waiting a month for the spirit blossom event, "Your Shop" returned. It was empty due to owning everything (https://i.imgur.com/zDei94b.png). I shot a message to Riot, and they offered me a choice of rare skins as compensation (https://i.imgur.com/Uw3jzon.png). I've always dreamed of owning PAX TF, as I'm a twisted fate main myself with over 350k mastery points.

Sure enough, Riot didn't disappoint! After talking a little back and forth, they granted my account with PAX Twisted Fate (https://i.imgur.com/2BNrMLJ.png)!

Also, before someone asks, I've spent around $5,000 on League

As before, I'm going to continue updating this pic every time a champion is released.
I didn't even play Twisted Treeline all that much. Just enough to get the slap-in-the-face icon they gave out to commemorate it. But it's such a waste to have Vilemaw's model and not use it. His animations and web abilities were leagues better than even Baron, and personally I'd prefer if they replaced Baron with him.

Jax player here. Why on earth is Jax being buffed? What is riot doing?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:09 PM PDT

Jax is in a really good place right now, he's got a balanced winrate, he's good if you're good on him, and he isn't destroying games or anything.

Why would riot buff Jax at this point? He's gonna get out of control, and get nerfed again in two patches. This seems crazy, even for riot.

Let's all appreciate Wolf shall we?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 04:29 PM PDT

Although this event isn't really for everyone, even myself who isn't much in this type of graphic novels things, I have to admit that I'm enjoying it more than I'd though I would when RITO brought it up. And in the middle of that I'd also like to say that I absolutely love how Wolf lines and drawings are done, his sad face is the cutest thing you'll see this entire event and no amount of clothes taking Lillia or bone crushing hugs from Cassio will surpass that sweet comedic and truthful creature that is Wolf. So if you haven't done it yet or just skipped pass all the dialogues I urge you, do give a chance to Wolf. I give my word of strange guy on the internet that you won't regret it.

I think Elder buff should be removed from Nexus Blitz

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 01:11 AM PDT

I had a game last day, and we totally stomped the enemy. Had more turret, kills, and farm team-wide.

Then got a super unfair event with moving the cart to the next turret. Which was their nexus turret, and our cart spawned on botlane. Their was on middle, and the target was the first turret on midlane.

They barely, but won the event, and got a fucking elder. Then they won every teamfight, and the game in the end. If it were any other buff, then we overwhelm them easily. But not a damn Elder.

Or at the very least the time of that buff should be reduced. Considering how fast the Nexus Blitz game-mode is.

Did Riot just stop caring about Eternals?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 11:28 AM PDT

Did Riot just stop caring about Eternals?

Please correct me if I'm uninformed on when eternals should be released/updated, but I feel like Riot has kinda forgotten about them entirely. Volibear's "updated eternals" still have a section dedicated to his pre-rework:

    https://preview.redd.it/g4ym01x70gd51.png?width=609&format=png&auto=webp&s=058d6370ea788162607c6b521e955251a5e8ea9c

Lillia has been out for a while and just straight up DOESN'T have any eternals yet, and as far as I know there has not been any mention of them being added any time soon.

I feel like this concept of eternals was so poorly executed, which sucks because some people genuinely love the concept. I would love to know more about the direction Riot plans to take eternals, if any.

EDIT: I was unaware that it takes a patch to have them added, so thanks for the info! I still think it's kinda wack that Voli has his pre-rework eternal because you literally just can't level it up and it serves as a dead eternal slot.
