Yone Champion Spotlight | Gameplay - League of Legends

PSA for people facing Yone: Damage to shields isn't echoed by the E mark.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 09:08 AM PDT

What do you mean, crazy public announcer impersonator?

I mean that for the purposes of calculating damage in this game, dealing damage to a shield that is protecting a champion doesn't count as damage to the champion itself. To the best of my knowledge, this applies to all champion-applied shields (via passive or spells), items (like Sterak's and other Lifeline passives), Barrier, and the Earth Soul.

What does this mean for Yone?

Just as it says on the tin. Damage dealt to a shielded champion won't be stored by the mark from "Soul Unbound" (his E), effectively making shielding 25-35% stronger (based on the level of his E) at preventing his all-ins compared to normal health. At present, Yone doesn't seem to be overkilling his targets by a whole lot of damage, so a shield on a vulnerable target may very well prevent Yone from killing them outright.

So you're saying I should just play Orianna and Lulu mid every time I see a Yone?

Wh- no? I didn't say that. Don't do that. Unless you just particularly like playing Orianna. However, Orianna, Lux, Diana, and enchanter supports like Lulu/Janna will probably be points of frustration for many Yone players (and many may never truly understand why their burst damage feels so different with a Janna on the other team). Also if for some god-forsaken reason the enemy locks in multiple mark-mechanic champions and you wind up facing Zed and Yone you might want to consider that pocket Orianna pick for the long con.

    Wait? Zed?

Yeah, this is an artifact of the zany way shields in the game work, and also applies to Zed's Death Mark. Barrier and Support Shielding can be a life-saver at stopping Zed from snowballing. He's slightly more flexible, and as a true assassin he tends to over-kill his targets by a more significant margin, but you can absolutely use Barrier to bait and watch as Zed mains overestimate their burst damage because the Barrier ate an entire Duskblade proc + E.

Okay, so I'm an Orianna main now. Any other tricks?

I just said you didn't have to play ... ah forget it. As a matter of fact, yes! The most fun and absolutely niche use of this mechanic is that damage to shields won't stop you from recalling. After many (justified) nerfs to shield duration, most won't last long enough to protect you for the full duration of recall, but you can often get away with recalling through someone checking your recall through a bush with poke spells by shielding yourself before hand. Morgana vs mages can also pretty much free recall if she's out of sight because they can't even CC you to stop it. It's also useful if you're the support trying to protect your buddy's recall. It's also basically core Rakan tech since you can stop your Xayah from taking damage and then follow her out.

Also, less usefully - damage to shields won't trigger Death's Dance's mitigation or bleed (though shields will prevent the bleed damage), and you can't Red-Pot Vamp off of shielded target. Be careful when dueling in the late game! Death's Dance's healing mechanic is more generous than that and will still give you health back for hitting shielded targets - however many effects worded as 'damage to champions' such as Taste of Blood and Aatrox's E passive won't give you returns for bapping a shielded target.

Neat! What other wisdom do you have for me, mysterious information dispenser?

Uh ... don't wear white after Labor Day, don't play in traffic, and even clear parties are Light Rampant Prog. That's all I got about league for the moment.

##TLDR## Shields are extra good against Zed R, Yone E, and can sometimes let you recall even through you got hit.

Player community in Taiwan are furious with Garena locking Yone's release skin and mutiple Prestige/Legendary skins behind gambling event.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 02:04 PM PDT

For people who don't know, Garena is the publisher of League in SEA region including Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippine, etc. And I believe they are like a subsidiary company to Tencent.

The player community are currently furious with what Garena did to multiple popular skins, they lock it behind gambling event or expensive bundle and you can't just get the skin from store or loot.

Garena removed the Prestige Point system from the game entirely.

In Taiwan server you don't get Prestige Point from buying stuff in the shop. Also the "2200 event token for 100PP" option is removed from the event token shop.

The only way to get a Prestige Point Skin is to play gambling event in the client. And most of these event don't even have a Guarantee system which means you can spend over 100 USD and still not get the skin you want. And of course you can't get these Prestige Point Skins from chest or reroll.

Players have to gamble for following Prestige Point Skins:

    • True Damage Senna Prestige Edition
    • K/DA Ahri Prestige Edition
    • K/DA Evelynn Prestige Edition
    • Arcanist Zoe Prestige Edition
    • Coven Zyra Prestige Edition
    • Blood Moon Aatrox Prestige Edition
    • Fuzz Fizz Prestige Edition
    • Bewitching Miss Fortune Prestige Edition
    • Star Guardian Neeko Prestige Edition
    • Pulsefire Thresh Prestige Edition

Garena locks popular champion's Legendary skins behind gambling event.

Garena change some Legendary skins into Legacy skins. You can only get them through Mega Bundle(including all the champions, skins, chromas, borders, icons, ward skins from that skinline) that cost 100 USD or play gambling event in the client(with no Guarantee system for that skin).

Some skins are locked for 2 weeks(they called it Early Access xD) and later added to the shop and loot system. But somoe are just permanently locked, we can never get it from the shop, chest or reroll.

Following Legendary skins are locked behind gambling event and Mega Bundle:

    • Spirit Blossom Thresh
    • Spirit Blossom Ahri
    • Galaxy Slayer Zed
    • Dark Cosmic Jhin
    • Dark Cosmic Lux
    • Cosmic Lux
    • Nightbringer Soraka
    • Dawnbringer Soraka
    • High Noon Ashe
    • High Noon Senna
    • Battle Academia Ezreal

Garena locks Yone's release skin behind gambling event and Mega Bundle.

Garena know how hype Yone is, so they decide to lock his release skin "Spirit Blossom Yone" behind gambling event and Mega Bundle for 2 weeks(Early Access xD)

    TL;DR: Fuck Garena.

Skarner players, pls stop maxing Q

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 09:42 AM PDT

Riot changed Skarners Q. It scales better with ranks. So more people maxed Q. And it is better than before, yes, it really is. but better than crap is now just terrible.

Now they buffed the Q again, but all ranks evenly. And terrible maxing Q first is still terrible.

Max E. Skarners WR goes down with each Q change and eacht time more and more people max Q first. This is not how you play skarner. EWQ. Q is always last.

Why? Q scales better with lvls, but you only need the Q to clear and you clear decently fast anyways.

    • Q rank up:
      • +0.5% EmHP on first hit, +1% EmHP on every hit afterwards. With 2k max HP that makes 30 dmg more if you land 2 Qs. Now most enemies don't have that much HP for most of the game
      • ~10-16% lower CD if you AA once between each Q against enemy champs. Pretty good, if you would need dmg.
    • W rank up:
      • +1% mHP shield. Nothing big, nothing small. Better than 2 Q hits rank up still as this scales with your Armor/MR instead of getting reduced by the enemies
      • +2-4% MS. Crucial for the E and R in the mid game. Skarner lives and dies with MS, which is why this ability gets maxed second.
      • ~4-% lower CD. Nothing hugly important, but still ok
    • E rank up:
      • +5% slow. Similar to the W MS, getting onto a target is the key to playing Skarner. Even when it doesn't look like a lot, it is very meaningful
      • +25 + 20. That is great. You would need around 5 Q hits (+45 dmg vs 1k EmHP per rank) just to get the same dmg out of the Q. That is very unlikely to happen during meaningful fights
      • ~4% lower CD. Nothing huge, but still important for him as the E is your most powerful spell

the only reason to max Q is for the lower CD if you really need to DPS a ton, which you likely only do around the mid game if you team is winning anyways and you solo drakes. Skarner is mostly a tank with heavy CC for an ER combo. That is your job and everything making that job easier matters. It is not his job to solo a baron or fight another player in a 1v1 for 15 sec.

So for the love of god, pls think about what a champs role is before you max something so bad (~60% of skarner players max Q first, another ~12% second).

D4 feels like what it's supposed to be when nobody talks: the top 2%

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 01:50 AM PDT

Okay hear me out. I know everyone on the league subreddit is a challenger, and you're trash if you're not top 10 challenger, but let's put that aside for a second. D4 is the top 2% of players, which statistically means if you're D4, you're "better" than 98% of the league of legends competitive playerbase. So why does it feel like total trash to play on there?

From my personal experience: D4 feels like the top 2% ONLY IF nobody talks. When not a single word is said all game, it truly feels like a very fast paced game where every single small decision can majorly impact the rest of the game. You need to spend every split second you have available doing the right thing or you'll just fall behind.

The moment someone talks, it's all downhill from there. Top lane just died to a gank? "fkin jgl diff im gna afk". Boom. Now the jungler is flaming top and all of a sudden both of their skill levels drop to silver. The support starts talking to these two in order to salvage the game, but they're too focused on typing, they can't focus on their lane. Mid is wrecking the enemy mid, but what's the point? 3 of your players are totally lost, and the game starts feeling like a 2v5.

I'm proud to be a diamond player, and I really feel like I'm playing at an extremely skillful tier, but god help me if someone types something negative in chat.

There should seriously be a bigger requirement to start ranked before you're thrown into a gold level game.

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:14 AM PDT

Now I have no idea what they should be, but fresh 30 accounts are almost never ready to be playing in gold.

They literally always feed (unless they are smurfs but that's a whole different issue) and lose the game by themselves, it's not fun for any of the 10 people in the game. The people on his team are angry that they're stuck on a team with someone who doesn't know how to play, the enemy team isn't having fun because there is no challenge to win, and the new player is having an absolutely hellish experience of being flamed while not knowing wtf they're supposed to be doing to play better.

Honestly, Uzi's YouTube Channel is such a treasure

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 06:37 AM PDT

I'm a huge fan of RNG (RIP playoffs and probably worlds) so I follow the team's socials closely. When Uzi announced his YouTube I was one of the first to subscribe along with post notifications. Even though I used to (almost) get spammed with notifications, I never really checked the channel out till recently. Turns out its become one of my favourite LoL related channels in a matter of days

The channel is great, with very consistent uploads of high quality gameplay. (Yes, even loses sometimes). Uzi holds himself to such a remarkably high standard and its often hilarious to watch. Other than that, he has such a magnetic stream persona. For years, his stream clips and things were hard to find so this was a mystery to me. But this channel has really proven to be such a treasure!

Despite the level of gameplay and dedication, I don't think the channel is as popular as it could be. When he's not styling on everyone, he's being absolutely hilarious in the way he calls out his teammate's (and often his opponent's) misplays.

TL;DR Uzi's YouTube is great. He uploads high quality games regularly and has a really great stream personality.

Building this roster got Zaboutine and other IMT management fired. On the bright side, I think this has been huge for exposing talent currently in the academy system. Eika may have taken away a spot from Damonte/Pobelter in Spring, but he has now opened the way for people to realize that academy mids like Palafox, Yusui, Ablazeolive, Insanity, and others are better than NA GMs thought, and we will likely see several promotions next year.

    I love Nexus Blitz

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 12:59 AM PDT

It's really fun and exciting to play. Makes me really happy!

    ARH-WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Just kidding. But after all the criticism this newest iteration of Nexus Blitz has received in the last days (some justified, some overblown), I want to use the massive influence of this anonymous Reddit account to spread a more happy message about this (almost) fresh icon in the game mode selection screen.

    • The look of the new Ionian Temple map is fing awesome. That's probably a point even critics will have to admit. I am a graphically minimalist dude who really liked the "default"-looking first Nexus Blitz map and who actually felt this new one to be slightly overloaded with objects (aka plants and golems) when it was availible on the PBE. However, whether I got used to it or simply have been wrong - anyways, it's awesome.

    • Nexus Blitz in general is the fast and fun mode this game needs. You're too tired for a long Summoner's Rift game, but still want to play actual League of Legends? (Aka neither ARAM nor TFT) Just throw in a game of NB. And since the time has an absolute maximum of 20 minutes, you can easily plan with it.

    • At least at the moment this mode is not taken too seriously by the players. Flaming is less frequent. If you're underfed - who cares? It's a fun mode. If you're an ADC, you will probably reach your powerspike more often than in SR.

    • Following up to this: Since you're not really forced to play against unfavorable matchups and get higher gold than usual, you can easily play off-meta stuff without significant drawbacks. Just play DFG AP Nautilus, if you want. And if it really doesn't work: ->

    • In Summoner's Rift, if you're getting hard stomped by a 5 man premate tryhard comp that camps your lane 24/7, you're pretty much doomed to suffer for at least 15 minutes - oh, who am I kidding 20 minutes. In Nexus Blitz, you can jump the ship after 8 minutes, with 4 votes being sufficient to save your brain from exploding. These FFs actually happen. And the best part: If you still want to keep playing, you have good chances to turn the game around, thanks to the rubber band mechanics.

    • The events mean the game will rarely get boring. You might not like individual ones, but I personally am fine with our Soraka running it down jungle - it means the next event will become easier! Losing an event rarely costs you the game (unless they get GA... seriously, fuck GA). Also, how fking awesome is it to beat the shit out of those golden Teemos to the sound of cash ringing in your wallet?

    • Your ego is safe. The random events and mentioned rubber band mechanics, even though some people don't like them, motivate you to play a game of Nexus Blitz like a game of Mario Kart: You're not necessarily a worse player if you lose. Maybe you just got hit by four Rammus' Qs in a row. So just take it easy! (And that's from me, a guy who usually tilts easier than a Tryndamere laning against 3 Teemos.)

Summarized: For me, Nexus Blitz is an excellent link between the "complete" games of Summoner's Rift and the teamfight-only gameplay of ARAM. It's ideal if you're too mentally exhausted for a full Summoner's Rift game where you're probably getting flamed for playing poorly. Here? Turn off your urge to tryhard, hop into your champion cannon and just enjoy the flight. I really, really like this mode and while I still want Dominion back, NB would be a honorable successor.

Is it perfect? Hell, no. I'm not too happy with the jungle, the GA reward sucks and I'm fucking tired of seeing Sett, Jhin, Kindred and Yasuo every game. But those are problems that can be fixed.

It's not a reason to abandon this mode; give it a chance. If repeating the same teamfight over and over and over again in ARAM is fun for you, surely Nexus Blitz can be as well.

    My two cents.

    PS: Still, bring back Dominion.
