How to become a really good LoL player and even better support player. Whole list things To-Do

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:47 AM PDT

Many people who are playing high ELO ranked games probably didn't even think about most of the aspects on this list so here I am. I will make a list of things you probably didn't know or never did before and what it will do is improve your self-consciousness about LoL and your overall performance.

Don't expect this post to be "5 quick tips on how to rank up fast" because I want to focus on how to be a better player, and hitting a rank is an only transitional process.

Those are things that most of challenger players and pro's focus on.

    INDEPENDENT ON ROLE:

    • TIMING SUMMONERS
    • WAVE MANAGEMENT
    • PING OPPONENT'S WARDS
    • TIME OPPONENT'S WARDS IN EARLY GAME
    • FAKE WARDING (entering fog of war to make enemies think you warded somewhere)
    • FAKE ROAM (same as in fake warding)
    • CONTROLLING ENEMY CONTROL WARDS (checking if the enemy has bought a control ward and then think where he could put it if he comes back without it)
    • MATCHUP LIST (make yourself a list of matchups you have played, how did you do, prons and cons, tips, then it will be easier for you to play those matchups)
    • INFO ABOUT MATCHUP AFTER DRAFT (in the loading screen and every free time between games, think what's your game plan, when the enemy has power spike when you have power spike, what is our win condition, etc)
    • CONTROL WARDS > POTS IN MID-GAME (self-explanatory)
    • BUY CONTROL WARDS (every recall you should leave the base with at least one control ward unless you don't have any space in your backpack)
    • TRINKET CHANGE (dependent on role change your wards to Oracle or Farsight)
    • USING YOUR PRIO (Think if you can step off the line and put pressure on other lines or go gank/dive)
    • CONSCIOUS VISION DEPENDING ON THE MAP
    • MAKE YOURSELF A TIER LIST (simply make a tier list of your champion pool, your favorite champs, what are their good and bad matchups, etc)
    • INFO ABOUT POWER SPIKES (when my champ is significantly stronger than other, which item or level gives is an advantage above others)
    • TIMING RESET BEFORE OBJECTIVE (you should avoid situations where your team couldn't set up an objective because you didn't time your reset right and couldn't compete for 4v5 fight)
    • MAKE PRIO BEFORE OBJECTIVE (if you want to take baron/drake/herald make sure you have prio on your lane so if enemies decide to compete, no matter if they win or lose the fight, they gonna lose some gold and exp that's in creeps or jungle camps)
    • PLANNING YOUR FIRST WARD (You have to predict the route of the opposite jungler - if you know there may be a level 2 gank then place a trinket but if there is no such basis then put up later. If you are sure about LVL 2 to gank, you can even put a trinket before the ones appear so that it will renew faster then or change it to Oracle)
    • VISION PLANT (Learn how to use vision plant to show important places but not to see on the lines that I used it)
    • ANALYSE IDOL'S GAME (Humanoid in conversation with Veggie - "I did the biggest improvement on the line as I started watching Faker stream and giving a pause every 5 seconds and I was wondering what he was doing and why. It is worth choosing 2-3 players at a world level who play in the style we would like to play and model on them. My development as a player is 80% playing soloq / scrims and 20% watching others and analyzing outside the game")
    • DON'T BE SCARED OF USING YOUR ULTIMATE (my ult cooldown is a useable resource. I'm throwing Varus ult to burn him a flash. We shouldn't keep our Ulti, especially if it gives CC)

    SUPPORT ROLE:

    • INFO ABOUT STACKED WAVE

Whenever there are several waves on your line, you need to inform the team about it, because it can be used in several ways:

    1. You can go down to the objective as you will have prio
    2. You can dive/tire the opponent under the tower
    3. You can save the opponent's dive or let go of the rook if you know that it is impossible to defend the dive
    4. You can call your jungler if you expect the opponent to gank you before the wave crashes

In all situations, you should ping the wave that comes out of your base if something is going on. The key is to inform in advance

    • PRIO = DEEP WARD

YOU HAVE A PRIO AND YOU BLADE THE LINES?

Go down to the river and then to the enemy's Gromp / Krugs (depending on which side you are on) and place a ward there to increase the detectability of the enemy jungler

Also, remember to use vision plants that are in your opponent's jungle to prevent them from being used

    • DEEP WARD ON LANE (FOR TP)

    WARD ON THE BACK (BOT)

After filling the wave against the enemy tower, leave the YT in the deepest bush on the line or at the wall (beyond the tower's reach).

    1. If you push the wave, it will bounce at you
    2. There may be a slow push that you want to contest (and the opposing jungler may try to e.g. secure)

    a) Yellow trinket gives you information and junglers coming from lane

    b) Yellow Trinket in such a prepared situation is a very good opportunity to flank TP

    • AVOIDING DIVES

    WHEN I'M BEING DIVED

Sometimes it is impossible to defend my line (I am weak side) and then the opponent tries to dive or deny us (we have to run away from the tower)

Often in such a situation, if the opponents are still standing on the bot (they do not allow us to return to the tower), it is better to run to MID through your jungle than to stand AFK on the bot

Thus, we can either give prio to mid and then cross the map to another line or immediately inform our MID and he can do the cross-map himself

    • ROAM AFTER FIRST RESET

At each reset, I should consider whether I have to go BOT right away or I can roam

Quick roam is practically going to the lower mid, pinning there / clearing the vision and returning the bot

A medium roam can also be the execution of porch pressure in the middle

A long roam is, for example, for a herald / TOP when I know that my ADC can stand alone for a while and whether I will gain something on the map

It also depends on my character - for range support that likes to trade on the bot, it's better to do short roams

    • WHERE DO WE NEED VISION CONTROL

WHERE WE NEED A VISION BEFORE AN OBJECTIVE

When the objective under which we play is determined, I have to remind in which quarter of the map / which side of the center we want to have visions

It's best to ping and order specific players where to put the vision

    • WARD ON MID LANE

TO PLACE WARDS BEHIND OPPONENT's BACK ON MID

When in the midgame, I'm in the mid, I try to put the ward straight on the line behind the place where the waves "crash"

This gives me information in advance when the opponent wants to gather for mid prio, shows where the enemy duo is and allows playing TP on the back "

    • SWAP FOR HERALD

AT THE FIRST RESETS, THINK ABOUT THE POSSIBLE HERALD SWAP For your part or your opponent, the first resets can lead to a swap to the top to play a herald or simply to change matchups. Try to swap only if you manage to set your lane well (push it through before the reset) and try to learn when your opponent can look for a swap and inform your team BEFORE they get on the TOP

    • MAXIMIZE SWEEPERS

DON'T ATTACK THE WARDS YOU EXPOSED WITH SWEEPER

In the midgame, when you go with several people, the person who used the sweeper should not attack the wards, but the teammates next to them because then you can continue reaching with the sweeper fired and not stand and waste it during auto attacks

    • DETERMINE IF I GAME WEAK OR STRONG SIDE

I HAVE TO KNOW IF I AM STRONG SIDE OR WEAK SIDE

I need to know if the jungler and my team will be playing the next few minutes under my part of the map or the other one and make decisions depending on it

    • LVL 1 WARD

WARD LVL1 BEFORE WAVE APPEARS Sometimes, depending on the matchup, when I know that I will need a ward earlier, it is worth placing it while still in the bush at lvl1 Thanks to this, the opponent does not know that I put the ward (as opposed to when I approach the ward after the laning phase has already started)

    • WEAK SIDE - DOING CAMPS

IF YOU'RE AFRAID OF CROSS MAP, I SHOULD DO JUNGLE CAMPS

Sometimes when I know that my team is playing around the second part of the map and therefore I cannot come to my tower, it is worth at least to clean the jungle camps in this quarter of the jungle at that time

Not only that, at least we farm something, we also leave nothing in the jungle that the opponent could farm

    • REACTION TO THE FIGHT IN THE MID (Not for soloq)

    REACTION TO MID SKIRMISH

"PukiStyle I'm running to the MID, Kaštelan I'll be here in 15 seconds"

When there is any mid-action in early, it's worth it if I have the opportunity to run there right away

In the worst case, I will move back to the bot in a few seconds, but even this can make the opponents stop chasing our teammate and it will be, for example, 1 for 0, not 1 for 1

At best, I reverse skirmish in the mid and we can come very forward

I created an excel document to help players monitor performance and recognize patterns

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:57 PM PDT

    Excel Document

    Explanation

I decided that I wanted to create an excel document to help players in ranked. I took ideas from various other documents I have seen to create my own spin on it. The document can be downloaded by anyone and modified to fit your individual needs. Formulas are set up to allow for automatic calculations. Each game also has a section to allow for reflection and encourage taking a brief moment after each game to reflect on what went right/wrong. The document can only be edited when download, as the google drive version is locked to view only.

    How to use

I left a few example games in the document to display how I would record my games. Leagues are all color coordinated down to each division. KDA is calculated automatically once Kills/Deaths/Assists are inputted. Wins/Losses are also color coordinated automatically as well. The only calculations that must be completed by the player are "CS Difference" and "Kill Participation" - both of which have their methods of calculation listed under the "Explanation" tab (or just use op.gg)

    Special Thanks

I stole the Auto-win/loss/neutral idea from the post by u/nusensei detailing the 30/30/40 rule. Thanks for the idea, I have started implementing it into my games and it has helped me with tilt significantly.

    Feedback

This was my first time using Excel in depth and I had to learn every formula and minor bit of content on my own. There will likely be small issues with the file and areas that can be improved. I would love to update this file should there be enough feedback and release an updated version with the implemented changes.

I also drew some inspiration from Simba's tracker and based my starting point off of this.

    Update

Wow this exceeded all expectations. I had feedback pertaining to the lack stats for support and lack of CS/min. My goal was to make it viable for all elos and because CS/min varies so much I couldn't colour coordinate it properly (as of right now it changes colour based on negative, low, and high CS difference).

I may add this in later today, I need to think about it

In terms of vision score, yes this is a good idea and I will add it in when I have time.

I also saw people mention putting in a "lane opponent" spot and I definitely agree with that, I just need to find a way to format it.

I hope everyone enjoys tool and uses it to climb the ranked ladder

Becoming a macro god and how to play macro as a Jungler. To-Do list

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:17 AM PDT

I have already done the same type of post on SUPPORT ROLE so if you are interested click the link here: https://www.reddit.com/r/summonerschool/comments/i2a54n/how_to_become_a_really_good_lol_player_and_even/ I will keep the "INDEPENDENT ON ROLE" section unchanged since there's nothing to change. If you already have seen my previous post about support, just skip it to the "JUNGLER ROLE" section. Have a nice lecture ^^

Many people who are playing high ELO ranked games probably didn't even think about most of the aspects on this list so here I am. I will make a list of things you probably didn't know or never did before and what it will do is improve your self-consciousness about LoL and your overall performance.

    • DON'T BE SCARED OF USING YOUR ULTIMATE (my ult cooldown is a useable resource. I'm throwing Varus ult to burn him a flash. We shouldn't keep our Ulti, especially if it gives CC)

    JUNGLER ROLE:

    JUNGLE TRACKING

JUNGLE TRACKING FROM LVL 1 Before the game, you should think about the route of the enemy jungler and inform the team about possible wards on LVL 1 that allow you to track him, e.g. I know that he will want a crab so you can yellow trinket on two crabs, ward directly on the buff if we do not know from which begins, ward on raptors After the times of the arrival of opposing laners on the line, try to determine if they helped at a specific camp During each route you should think about how to make the vision to increase the chance of finding enemy jungler without losing your route effectiveness In practice, the ward on the opponent's camps before he does them almost always gives information, so it is worth communicating about the vision on his raptors / blue / gromp on lvl 1 and the next resets The difficulty is knowing each jungle route in the context of the prio you and your opponent have - it's an art to predict exactly what the enemy jungler will do.

    • RESET = PLAN

    AT EVERY RESET

I need a plan for the next route and where I want to visualize at the route. Things to consider

Which line will I want to do actions on? Does he want top2bot or bot2top

Does he want to enter the opponent's jungle to solo him or make a vision? Do my lines have a prio to do this

Which my camps are up or available - I can't be behind the farm for no reason

Where can I put a vision

At which line I can easily make a gank (because there are no summoners or we have a lot of CC + DMG)

A huge difficulty because it is a whole jungler game - interpretation and plan despite many variables

    • WHERE AM I

PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT WHICH LINES IM NEAR TO If it's on the lower river I say mid / bot can play over aggro when it's on the upper river I say mid / top can play over aggro This way I force favorable trade for my laners in one sentence

    • MAP CUT

    WHAT ABOUT THE VERTICAL JUNGLE

Do we or our opponents want a vertical jungle? Do we have a site that we VERY want to play?

Do we have a good lvl1 team comp to enforce?

    • WHAT ABOUT WAVE AFTER THE GANK

ASK AFTER EACH GANK WHAT TO DO WITH WAVE

Every time you visit a given line, ask laner what to do with the line - push, leave or freeze

    • PLAN FOR THE FIRST ROUTE

MAKE MY PLAN FOR THE FIRST ROUTE What do my character and the character of the enemy do? A random set of plans for the first route: 1. I have stronger lines (prio) and I want to invade the opponent's second buff or play two crabs - I need to have a vision for lvl 1 or be sure of his route 2. I have a stronger lvl 1 and want to invade on the first buff and potentially go into triple buff 3. I or my opponent want to VERY play under top or mid so I can force vertical jungle all my route to be on this side 4. I want "power farming" so I have a defensive vision and go from top to bottom 5. I have a super lvl 2 gank on some line so I can do singlebuff-> gank 6. I have great ganks on a particular line so I set a route (top2bot, bot2top) to that line 7. I want to remain "ignorant "and" unpredictable "in the forest although the opponent has a good vision of lvl1 so I can start then NOT with a buff but with a normal camp 8. If I know that the opponent has a strong side and will want to invade me after the first buff, it is worth starting the jungle from that side so that he cannot find any camps there during his invade Choosing the right option and doing it according to plan is the whole art in the forest

    • INFO ABOUT THE FIRST ROUTE

WHEN I GO TO ANY CAMP IN EARLY GAME I CAN SPING ON MY WAY

"I'm going gromp and then lower crab, can you take prio mid" If we learn to automatically ping our next camp, we'll learn to inform the team about it

By the way, it helps our team play with us

    • WHICH CAMP BEFORE PLAY

IN MID GAME WHEN MY TEAM HAS SET FOR NEXT OBJECTIVE, TELL YOUR ROUTE

When in mid-game, as a team, we plan objective on the map (e.g. we want to play swap duo on top and take t1 top), then I should synchronize with the team

If I have camps bot side to do, I inform the team that I have to do them and I will be topside only in 40 sec OR enemy camps are up in the topside so I have to go there with support and take them OR I can go right away because I do not have camps to do and I have free time

    • USE OF HERALD

WHEN I HAVE A HERALD AND I WANT TO PLAY IT ON THE TOWER

We should first break as many plates as possible (preferably 2+ plats destroyed) BEFORE I play the herald

The turret has more and more resists with fewer plates and the herald has true damage so it is more effective than

    • HELP FOR THE DRAGON / HERALD

ALMOST ALWAYS BETTER FEW PERSONS TO MAKE THE DRAGON / HERALD THAN YOURSELF

I shouldn't waste a lot of time doing a dragon/herald by myself when I want to make a dragon/herald then I call my teammates if they need help pushing the / prio line then better help them

It is always more effective and safer, and we do not lose pressure on it, if we have an advantage in vision, help us push the lines, the opponent theoretically does not know whether we are going to the dragon or just another line / we are entering the jungle

The only problem is that it is easier for the opponent to make a cross-map because he may not know if we are doing a dragon or something else, but he knows what part of the map we are in, then the most important thing is to inform the other side of the map that there is a weak side

    • LVL 1 CHEESE

COOL CHEESE LVL1 WHEN WE ARE BLUE SIDE

When we have stronger 2v2 @ top + jungle duo, we can make two invades on enemy red, go through top tri bush and hide next to red (put a trinket on the roadstead)

When the opponent starts the red, then we run at him

    • GANK SETUP

COMMUNICATE HOW MY GANK WILL LOOK LIKE

First I will give a stun and then you will extend it so that he cannot use flash

When I know that I will go to the gank, before it happens I have to communicate with my laner how it will look like

The worst thing I can do is walk up without saying anything and then be surprised that the gank didn't come out

Gank without information is like changing lanes on the street without a signpost

    • ASK FOR PRIO

    ASK FOR PRIO IN ADVANCE

In a minute I want to go to his red, can you have top and mid prio then?

When I plan my steps in the jungle, I have to say what I need from my laners

If they cannot get the prio needed for my plans, I can always come to them and get the prio together

If, however, it is impossible to take the prio then I can avoid the wrong invade / camp

The difficulty lies in the situational nature of the game state and lane matchups

    • HOW TO PLAY PRESSURE WITH JUNGLE (FOG OR VISION)

ON THIS MAP, WHAT IS BETTER? KNOW WHERE IS YOUR OPPONENT OR BE HIDDEN

I play Nocturnem so the most important thing is that I farm as much as I can and that the opponent never saw me in my jungle, thanks to which I have ulti pressure on each line

It is worth considering what is better on a given map: should I aggressively enter the opponent's jungle and look for him because I am strong 1v1 and his character loses a lot if we see her?

Is it worth it that I am "undetectable" for the enemy, I rarely enter the river and put pinks at the entrance to my jungle

    • PINK IN BARON/HERALD PIT

WHEN I WANT TO DO A SNEAKY DRAKE, I MUST HAVE A PINK

I throw a pin to the pita because they can have a trinket there through the wall put up. When I want to do a sneaky drake, it is worth placing the pin directly in the pit

    • SETUP MID GANK (DASH)

MID GANKS BEFORE DASH TO UPPER / BOTTOM BUSH

I'll do a lee sin dash to the ward in the bush where we have pink. Sometimes when we have a character that has a frequent dash eg lee / Gragas this is one of the easiest ganks that requires a very small vision setup

It is enough for the midlaner to put one pink through the wall into this bush and for the enemy not to have a ward near our tower

    • PULLING CRAB

WHEN I MAKE A CRABA IN EARLY GAME, I MAKE HIM TO GO WHERE I HAVE A PRIO

I am pushing the crab towards the top be ready to come down to me. When we make the crab in the early game it is worth getting it to the path towards the line where we have the prio if we expect that there will be a fight for it

    • VISION PLANT (AS JUNGLER)

USE VISION PLANT BEFORE I GO TO THE LINE AND I EXPECT A VISION

I go lower-mid so I show their wards. When I go to a line and I expect that the opponent has a vision there, it is better to use a flower first and then put a pin

It's just a second longer pathing and the profit is disproportionate

    • WHICH LANE IS EARLY

PLAY AROUND THE LINE WITH GOOD GANK POTENTIAL AND THOSE WHICH BURN SUMMONER SPELLS

Any of the lines burned a flash? Someone is playing an immobile character? On a given line, the characters in your party can easily prepare a gank? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, chances are you want to look for a gank on that line and play around that line.

    • PLAYING AROUND SLOW PUSH

USE SLOW PUSH. PLAY AROUND SLOW PUSH

Large, stacked waves are usually a problem for the opponent. When playing Jungle, you should look for dives on them, collect plates, go down to the opponent's jungle, take dragons, etc. Dive on a high wave is always safer for you, and if it ends with killing the enemy, he will lose all minions that will crash into a turret. If you want to take a dragon during a slow push, the opponent will always be forced to make a decision - he picks up a dragon or I catch a wave crashing against my turret

    • JUNGLER COMMUNICATION

CONSTANTLY AND CONSCIOUSLY PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNICATION WITH THE TEAM Communicate with the lines and stay informed about your position, plan, and what is happening on the map. Communicate your position, what you need to do for your plan to succeed, and what your opponents may be doing. Tell me when you are on the river, inform the lines if they are strongside or weak side. Providing the plan when leaving the base is not enough, make sure that you are all on the same side and think the same at the moment in the game.

    • A VISION FROM A JUNGLER

IN YOUR JUNGLE PATH ALWAYS TAKE TIME TO MAKE A VISION

Depending on the situation, defensive or aggressive. Find a balance between creating visions and doing camps.

    • WHAT I NEED

BASED ON MATCHUP AND GAME CONDITION, SPEAK ABOUT YOUR NEEDS IN THE JUNGLE

Find the balance between individual and team play. Communication Quest - As a jungler, you should exchange as much information as possible with your team. For example, if you are planning a herald swap, and you still have two camps in the lower jungle to do, which will allow you to finish lvl 6 and give you much better base purchases, if possible, suggest a swap on the next wave. On the other hand, if you see your team want to swap heraldry and you can see that you can skim camps for better team pace, you should do so. The whole difficulty lies in the compromise between individual and team goals.

    • TAKE UP OF THE RIVER FROM MID / SIDE

FROM WHICH LINE TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE RIVER

In most cases, it is optimal to do prio on the river from the MID - but in some cases (eg losing 2v2 on the mid/big slow push on the side / winning heavily sideline) you have to do it from the side.

    • SYNCHRONIZE RESET WITH MID / SUP

FIRST / SECOND RESET SYNCHRO WITH MID / SUP

Synchronized Jungler reset with a Midlaner (or support) often makes it easier to take control of the river (besides most of the time) - the first JNG and MID resets are their small power spike, which often coincides with the lvl6 midlaner and allow you to take control of the river.

Any way to use the mouse wheel rather than the F keys?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:40 AM PDT

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I primarily jungle and would LOVE to be able to cycle through my teammates by scrolling my mouse wheel rather than pressing the F keys. I can't find a setting like "next teammate" but am I just missing it? Anyway I can bind mouse wheel down to next teammate and mouse wheel up to previous team mate?

I'm an ADC main who tends to lose lane whenever I do not get a heavy engage support. How do I win when my support is not a crowd control monster?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:09 AM PDT

The title basically states my entire problem. When my support is any sort of heavy engage tank, Thresh, Leona, Nautilus, etc, I win lane hard. However, give me a Senna, Nami, Janna, etc, and I just can't seem to win trades or engages. I do understand that playing with a tank vs someone who can't always frontline is a different playstyle, however, I struggle nonetheless. The two ADC's I play most often are Ashe and Aphelios. Any advice (or links to a coaching video I haven't found yet lol) would be very helpful!

How to win as a midlaner (long post)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:50 AM PDT

Hello summoners, (i always wanted to say that)

I bring you the formula to victory as a *(mid)*laner. This can also be useful for jnglers because they need to know how their laners think. I made this list by compiling what i learned from all sorts of educational league content and from my experience. You'll notice some redundancy especially with the emphasis on jungle tracking because that happens to be a great way to solve autopiloting.

autopiloting is basically turning your brain and thinking power off and relying on reflexes and habits to do everything which is usually a terrible thing.Anyway, about me (Feel free to skip this part), I'm a silver midlaner mage main and i decided that this season i want to climb and i started taking ranked seriously as i haven't in the previous seasons. I finished my placements and climbed back to silver with a high winrate ( the client crashed on my first game and my team couldn't remake so i joined late and ended up losing hard and getting a provisional rank of Iron 3 lol what a way to start the season). At the time, I played on autopilot the entire time, but i didn't realize that. With more fundamentals practice and some optimizations here and there (knowing when to push/shove/roam/recall taking a break after a loss, etc) i somehow made it to silver 2, but, that's it, that's when i got hardstuck. As my winrate slowly decreased and approached 50% i realized that was my actual rank, that i'm a "coinflip" midlaner who's always on autopilot and that i really need to do smth about my tilt, autpilot, mentality and everything really (I legit currently have 840+ games). I absorbed so much educational content and understood how big of a fool i was. I started working hard on it, polishing my skills and acquiring new ones (i never knew there was smth called macro lol, it's not like it exists in low elo anyway, but still) I changed my ranked mentality, practiced a lot and kept learning and my winrate started going up. You can see my ranked journey in the LP graph where you can easily pinpoint the phases of short early climb then the coinflip style hardstuck (legit same rank after 100 wins and about 190 total games) (alternating between win streaks and loss streaks) then the slow progress (still a bit of coinflipping but the peak rank and the average rank each month are increasing) and then finally the actual progress and literal smooth sailing to gold only 29 wins later.

The red arrow in the first pic is when i started using this checklist.

That said, here's the list that greatly helped me with my autopilot and climbing in general.
These are guidelines. It's a formula, but not a magic formula, you still need to practice and play a ton of games to actually improve.

    In champ select

    1. "for the love of God, please don't ban the champion i just declared !" (i'm sick of this tbh. can't wait for reporting in champ select to go live)
    2. check comps: roles, damage composition, strengths, weaknesses, tankiness, engages, scaling, etc... you need to know what every single champion, item and monster does, what are the builds and power spikes etc, either by playing the champs yourself or learning about them on the wiki or whatever, there's a link to a list of brief descriptions of each champ in the sources section below
    3. check profiles on opgg, porofessor or your companion app of choice
    4. see if you should dodge (this is very important) I'd rather lose 3 or 10 LP, wait a few minutes and keep my mmr than lose 16~19, 25+ minutes some mmr. (eg they have a yuumi+ yi +/ vayne +/ nasus +/ kassadin ? bye ! I'm not playing this) The example may be extreme and obvious, but, you get the idea. Also if there's a new unranked player on your team consider dodging, i guess this will be fixed next season according riot said because putting new players in silver2-gold3 elo is unfair for everyone including the new player

    In loading screen

    1. describe matchups especially enemy laner and jng (pathing, Lv2 gank setup ? if so ward 1:30, Lv3 gank setup ?? if so ward 2:30, invasive ? gank reliant ? afk farmer ? etc)
    2. devise game plan accordingly
    3. decide whether you want to invade enemy buff with your team or not, ping waaay ahead. if not know where to sit in order to fulfill sentry duty (covering buffs) and decide what to do with the first wave

    Ingame

    • Laning phase

    - check to see which lane leashed and start tracking jng
    ward accordingly
    - cs and get a minion lead
    - punish on last hits on every opportunity even with just a basic attack while avoiding minion aggro as much as possible (executing this well requires lots of experience and practice) (also called trading stance)
    - where tf is the enemy jngler
    - lv2 advantage trade
    - cs
    - where tf is the enemy jngler
    - cs and get minion lead
    - where tf is the enemy jngler
    - lv3 advantage trade (as long as they're not melee or a champ that spikes harder at 3 in general)
    - cs
    - where tf is the enemy jngler
    - cs
    - where tf is the enemy jngler
    - cs
    - get exp lead
    - at around 5mn hard shove and recall, you should have about 1300g for the lost chapter or whatever your first spike is. whether you get to buy a pot or 2 or none at all depends on how well you cs up until then. The next wave is a canon wave and it'll give you more time to go back to lane if you don't have tp. Also you get lv6 on the first minion killed on that wave assuming you stayed in lane the entire time and didn't miss any exp. Check the perfect recall video below for more details.
    - so yeah you know the drill, get lv6 first, don't forget to check your opponent's items, ask yourself :
    - where tf is the enemy jngler
    - where tf is my jngler
    - ping you're gonna lv6 all in
    - and then, lv6 all in
    - after killing the enemy laner give yourself and pat on the back (or maybe don't) then decide whether you should stay or not by considering the reward of overstaying and the potential cost : consider your resources, vision, enemy jng location, minion wave state, is your tp up, is the enemy laner's tp up ? do you really need to overextend for that plating right now ? is that gold gonna get you another power spike ?
    - keep trading and using small item, exp and minion advantage to snowball
    - try to push ur advantage by trading during the time window when you have more items and/or you're a level or 2 up on your opponent, force it if you see fit
    - don't forget to find roam opportunities if you're that kind of guy

    • mid and late game

    - what's the next objective? play around it : collapse on your losing lane, slow push and get tower / if an epic monter is up go push the surrounding lanes to get prio and setup vision control while sending the one with tp to the remaining (far) lane
    - set up waves to create a lose-lose situation for the enemy team : slow push top before drake fight and bot before baron fight around 1mn before it spawns so that you cause pressure and create a gold swing by farming and denying cs and ideally forcing someone to go clear then fight 5v4)
    - call lane assignments (in advance) who has tp up ? where do i go ?
    - know when and how to team fight and how to prepare for it

    General tips

    • micro and mechanics are super goddamn important; how do you plan to climb if you can't last hit or land skill shots properly, this is not mentioned in most guides only because it goes without saying; it's obvious, just practice your combos and all
    • learn the macro rhythm
    • learn wave management
    • learn to position through tethering, wave positioning, jnglers' positions etc
    • work on your champion pool (pick a small champ pool, like 2~3 varied champs) and at least one champ on each other role because you can't dodge all the autfill games
    • ward and lean towards your winning side and/or whatever side your jngler is on
    • "farm more die less" (yup this is indeed a quote)
    • learn to build properly, it varies a lot but usually, it goes like this : get your core items which could be delayed in favor of a defensive item, get a defensive item, react to your opponents' builds
imo survivability > utility/damage depending on your champ : be the one to get grievous if your team doesn't, consider building pd/mercurial/maw/ga before your next damage item as adc as it'll actually increase your damage output by allowing to live longer and dps more even though your dps stats are a bit lower
    • don't just copy builds and runes blindly, you need to learn how those work and you should tailor them to your play style
    • don't be afraid to make flashy plays (some low elo players would hold on to their flash too much out of fear and lack of confidence and only use it defensively whereas a high elo player will not hesitate to flash combo to secure a kill especially in the early game and will proceed to play safe when their flash is down
    • don't miss out on free kills (keep enemy summs and cds in mind)
    • ping cd time stamps during downtimes "mid f 15:45" for example
    • if i have pots and they don't, don't be afraid to take heavy trades cuz you can regen it back and they can't, and yeah, buy pots
    • buy a control ward, just do it, even if you already have one on the map
    • place ur control wards somewhere you can defend them
    • keep recalling this list and asking yourself what you're gonna next in-game to avoid autopilot
    • "the meta" is only relevant before and at the farthest during champ select, what matters after that is the actual match ups
    • in botlane, you almost always have to focus the adc in every trade
    • each champ you play againt has one key spell, your trading pattern should revolve around that spell's cd (think syndra e, yasuo w, etc) (i loved how i felt a cd nerf for the first time after implementing this, it was syndra's e nerf btw)
    • watch your vods and while checking this list, especially the first 10mn, if you want to climb you need to win lane more
    • learn the role and capabilities of everyone and everything, you don't need to be to able to insec as lee sin but you must know that he can jump and throw your carry at his team, that malphite is the one who's gonna land a great engage on your team if you sit too close to each other, and that khazix can flank/dive and make your backline go *poof* without breaking a sweat if you allow it
    • there are downtimes that you should be using to gain information (walking back to lane, recalling in a safe location, last hitting in a slow lane (short time window), etc)
    • improve your map awareness, like look at the thing ever 3-5s or so, help me help you not to tunnel vision and go on autopilot
    • learn to absorb as much information as possible
    • work on one or two things at a time (you can't learn to punish on last hits and to farm yourself at the same time for example)
    • Resolve tree is a great secondary, here's why :- demolish is great for breaking the map open, especially if your build has hp in it (RoA, liandry's, morello etc)- consider taking doran's shield and second wind against poke heavy matchups such as the annoying ap malph- consider taking bone plating when the enemy has burst damage through a combo of spells/basic attacks
    • muting "unhelpful" players is a great idea, consider doing it or even disabling player chat
    • unless you're full on resources (including potions) and you can't get a power spike on a recall, you should almost always base
    • work on your apm
    • the threat of an ability is sometimes greater than the ability's effect (the one-time loading screen tips were good), think of blitz running at your team with his team right behind him
    • low elo soloQ is complete chaos, no one knows what to do, when/where etc and they'll group and aram or force terrible fights around drakes and barons or even in front of the base. use this in your favor but beware because this is also the case for your team, you can capitalize on this either by splitting and taking towers if you're strong enough to soak pressure and force the enemies to break formation and come to you BEFORE the team fight begins which will make it easier for your team to fight OR you could do the wave setups then try to actually plan the teamfight and/or take advantage of players going off position by picking them off and going 5v4 (consider glacial and twin shadows or just set up decent vision control) this is more viable the more you climb. try to avoid the 5v5 cuz that's coinflip and unless your team is insanely far ahead (so far that you should question why you didn't end yet) you can't predict the outcome of the teamfight there's simply too many variables and scenarios. sometimes teamfighting isn't the right choice and getting a few towers by yourself while your team gets a kill is worth the life of 2-3 of your teammates.
    • turn on potato mode in the client even if your pc doesn't need it because it helps fix some issues and improve stability (turn it back on if u want to see the ranked armor promotion animation on your account, not youtube)
    • don't face check, like please, you'll only make yourself look stupid and feel bad about for the rest of the game (i learned this the hard way, there are baron traps and dragon traps and other morally questionable ways to abuse your enemies and end the game)
    • abuse the weak link in the enemy team. sorry, this is soloqueue get good or derank
    • use attack move, target champs only, use "area is warded" ping, show spell mana costs, unlock your camera, selfcasts, disable move camera on revive if u want to tp, and all those neat little tips and tricks that you should know but you simply didn't take the time to read the settings, so you don't
    • learn to get carried, you're not gonna carry every game, actually, you're rarely gonna 1v9 (not because you're bad but, simply put, you often don't get the opportunity). If you look at things objectively, odds are you'll get at least a winning lane most of the time so if you're not the one winning, or if you're going even/losing just play towards your winning side especially if the champ can snowball hard and/or can easily carry, they're your win con, drop your ego and peel for them, if you do that right that's actually a sign you're a good player
    • if one of your side lanes is going even, find opportunities to roam and give them a lead, like actually give them the kill over the opponent, help them reset the wave and make sure they keep their lead, they'll thank you for it and you'll thank yourself later
    • appreciate the small milestones along the way, and cherish the "click" moments when you just smurfed on em with your big brain plays or predictions
    • some abilities' visual effects can be seen through fog of war (think of noc q, vi e, rengar, shaco etc)
    • idk if this is a bug or intended but sometimes your champ would do an interaction triggered by another champ even if you don't have vision on him. for example, if morgana walks near a bush where garen is hiding and she doesn't have vision in that bush, she would still say the specific first encounter quote : "to wear armor is to fear death garen, and that's a lot of armor". so learn your champ's quotes and use that do your advantage
    • in the early game, check the enemy jngler's cs and his buffs whenever he reappears. Knowing that every jng camp yields 4 cs including scuttles, you can tell which camps he probably still haven't done which helps you continue tracking him and allows you to steal those camps.
    • tp op
    • harsh truth: you're stuck at your rank mostly because you are worse than players who are ranked above you, you're not a victim or just unlucky (given that you playen enough ranked games to find your actual rank), get over it and get gud
    • set a goal and try to learn smth every game, apps that use riot's api and spreadsheets are very effective at keeping track of your progress and telling you what to focus on

    How to carry

    • win lane and get a lead (duh)
    • push your lead all around the map through ganking, taking towers, neutral objectives and everyone's favorite thing : killing your lane opponent again and again, although there are more important things to do (consider focusing yas with ur jng cuz he'll rq)
    • rift herald is op if you know how to use it (one time i got 4 towers off of one herald while the other 9 players were trying to get drake, my team somehow won that (narrowly) but it would still be worth as long as they don't all die).you also use the herald to just end the game lol (just use the 2nd herald on an inhib, or an inhib tower if you're not sieging alone)
    • don't throw your lead, be careful with that bounty, stay calm and collected, don't take it easy just yet; **you didn't win yet.**Conversely, the 5/0 enemy aphelios will get cocky thinking he can 1v5 but he'll just run it down mid throwing his lead at you, just be there to break his will and claim the juicy bounty
    • call the next objective. Don't be afraid to be the one to make the calls, people tend to blindly follow the fed guy (again you can use this to your advantage in many ways either by making them follow you or by making the fed enemy look stupid)
    • be in the right place at the right time (ik blew my mind too)
    • learn to establish efficient and proactive vision control, it's not the supports' job alone (vision alone can carry and stop your team from inting) vision is op, especially deep wards and the ones that inform you about ganks when jng is on the way, effectively making them useless (you should never ever die to a level 2 gank, twitch comes to mind)
    • farm consistently (don't forget to keep your cs up after laning phase). you can reach 9cs/mn, i know you can (i started reaching 8 without even noticing it)
    • after a mid game ace usually you get the inhib turrent and the inhib then go baron if u can (assuming they're still dead)
    • picks are a great reliable way to carry, just pick off the jngler and/or the second most important threat then go baron or just end
    • and ofc don't forget to call mid diff at the end

Sources and basically who i'm thankful for (in no order) can be found in the comments since i can't put the list here

    PS

    • silver2-1 is actually a completely different elo compared to silver4-3, many high silver players are actually pretty good and have clean well thought plays (in low elo standards) maybe because they're trying hard to hit gold
    • i'd love to see riot adding a tier between silver and gold because that's where most of the player base is concentrated and the skill discrepancy is huge and quite apparent. it would group s2, s1, the huge amount of people sitting at g4 0lp and some g3, i'll tell you about g2 when i get there xD
    • i'm in favor in a harder seasonal ranked reset like dropping 2 tiers instead of 1 (too many boosted people) and i'd like to know your thoughts about this
    • many players are hardstuck nowhere near their rank in the previous season and players suggest that last season mmr was inflated? idk but there lots of ex-plat in silver lol (yep that bad)
    • people can climb with 48% winrate while i was stuck with 51% winrate and only actually climbed when my winrate went up. this is not the case for me alone and i'm assuming this is why promos will be removed, let's discuss this
    • There actually is a formula for a 20mn victory as jng as well (it's a youtube video (link in the comments) and you should check it out even if you don't jungle)
    • i have huge expectations for next season's itemization rework

In conclusion, this list has proven to be good enough to climb (in low elo at least), but it's nowhere near perfect, please correct my mistakes and you are more than welcome make additions to it. Let's make this something accurate that we can all refer to to improve.I hope i didn't forget anything in the sources and acknowledgments section, i'll add if i remember smth.

Thank you for sticking around till the end and sorry for the long post

Good luck on the rift !

GUIDE: How to close out games and stop throwing

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 12:10 PM PDT

One of the most asked question I get as a jungle coach is "How do I win off an early game snowball?" This is a major differentiator between low elo and high elo, the ability to capitalize on mistakes and push leads effectively (Iron games average 30 minutes, Plat games are 27:50, Challenger 25:25).

Here's a video guide for closing out games: https://youtu.be/YZ9U2IJFlRk

For those of you who would rather read, here's a text version:

    Capitalize on teamfight wins

Don't just go back to your camps and farm. Ask yourself "What else can we take while they're dead?"

    Options:.

    • Crash the wave, drop herald if you have it. Take the turret if you have time.
    • Secure drake or herald
    • Counter jungle
    • Reset for tempo, get back on the map with items before they even respawn

The key is to not get greedy and try to get too much. Be realistic with what you can accomplish during death timers.

    Play around Herald

I think Rift Herald is the most under-used tool for generating early leads and creating map pressure. The team who takes first herald wins 63% of the time, but a lot of low-elo junglers ignore it. You can take herald quickly and without losing much health. You should be looking for it if you have priority mid and top, or if the enemy jungler shows bottom.

u/Bquipd made a pretty great video to show that any champ can take herald: https://youtu.be/WwgCIP-svlc

    Counter jungle

If the enemy makes a play on the opposite side of the map from you, don't try to run there for the fight. The fight will already be over by the time you arrive. Instead, counter jungle their opposite side.

If your team is ahead, your allies will most likely survive or trade kills. It's important to punish the weak side of the map so the enemy jungler doesn't have time to reset, farm, and stay in the game. A failed gank followed by an empty jungle should be a death sentence (at least for their mental).

    Match reset timers

In the late game, if the majority of your team resets, you should too. Your team is strongest after spending their gold, but the team will never be synced if everyone is waiting for their next item.

If you're farming when your team is ready to fight, it's partially your fault if they lose a team fight. Farm when they're farming, and fight when they're fighting.

    Push the right lanes

Don't push lanes that already have super minions, unless you can end. Pressure another lane, and wait for the enemy to send someone to answer the pushing super minions. When they do, you get a free 4v5. If they don't answer it, the minions will destroy their base.

    Fight around number advantages

Before a major objective spawns, set up deep vision to pick off any mis-positioned enemies. After a pick, you should have a pretty easy time taking the objective and running it down.

Also, you can force for a 4v5 when an enemy shows on the opposite side of the map (like #5).

    Communicate

Use pings and chat to tell your team WHAT you want to do and WHY you want to do it. Don't expect them to read your mind or know what the right play is. If you played the early game well, they will most likely listen to you.

I hope this helps you guys close out games more effectively! Let me know if there are other tips you think I may have missed. :D

    About toxicity directed at junglers

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:01 AM PDT

Let's get it out of the way and say "use mute all if you're getting harassed". There.

However, I would like to express my thoughts as an ex-midlaner on what has to be the most toxic gaming experience I've had. When you play a lane, the occasional flaming is bearable. It often addresses a real problem in your gameplay, although it is not worded nicely. That's of course not always the case, but you have time to recover as the harassment is not continuous. Due to my history as a laner, I like to see the chat, as you can meet positive and fun people there as well in between the bad ones.

In season 10, I switched to playing jungle after a long break and oh boy has it been something else. Not only is your own team actively trying to blame you for every mistake in the game, yours or some one else's, the enemy team is also there to tell you how you're playing wrong. What's even worse is that most of the time the people flaming are just plain wrong, and demonstrate how they do not understand how my role works with their comments. As I don't find it productive to try to correct every one else on how you don't gank much early on a farm jungle, or how you're usually supposed to try to snowball winning lanes, I just have to sit there and get "taught" by people who are completely clueless and looking for a scapegoat. When the game approaches its end, you start hearing "jungle diff" from people that were not able to track the enemy jungler, even if I spent time pinging when he's coming. All of this happens pretty much every game, and I'm not even exaggerating. Even if you were winning, the one guy in your team who fared a bit worse usually tries to release his frustrations about his game on you by telling you how you should have ganked his lane, or the enemy are telling you you are a piece of shit for playing on one side too much.

All that said, I actually have grown to like the role very much. The macro focused thinking has been very refreshing after laning for years. However, I'm not sure if I can bear this hate for long. Call me mentally weak, but the comments get grating after a couple of games in a row, and I can't force myself to mute all at the start of every game. How do you, other junglers, deal with all of this? Also, if you're a laner reading this, please take it easy on your junglers. When you're typing an insult, keep in mind they've already heard it a dozen times, possibly even during the day.

Why am I so bad despite trying hard and reading a ton?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:25 AM PDT

Hello, I'm very tilted right now but I will try to make this post not a rant/vent thing. I'm fairly new to league (level 15), and so far, it feels like if I don't queue with my friends, I'm guaranteed to lose. I have a 5 loss streak and it's not ending any time soon. I think my biggest problem is, at the 10-minute mark I generally have about 40 cs and my lane opponent double that. We go even for the first couple of minutes and then I fall off tragically.

Here's an image of my match history and links to 2 games. I beg for any advice because I might just stop playing from the frustration.

I've plateaued (Bronze 1 last season, currently Bronze 2 but I think my MMR is silver level)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:08 PM PDT

I've noticed recently that my improvement has plateaued. E.g. Whereas before, I had no idea what items did what or what champions did what, I now have a general understanding of everything in the game, but I'm stuck at the same level of play. Below are a few of the issues I think are holding me back.

    1. I understand high-elo concepts like wave-control, jungle tracking, teamfighting positions, etc, but I feel like there's something preventing me from properly implementing them in my games.
    2. I feel like there's just so much nuanced knowledge that I will never pick up like build x against x champ, x comp scales harder, or x champ is an early game champ, etc.
    3. How do I practice skills like map awareness and wave control? The problem that I'm having is that it's very difficult to see improvement so I don't know if what I'm currently doing is helping.
    4. A lot of people say that improvement comes from playing more games and analyzing your games, but this doesn't seem to happen for me. This is despite the fact that I'm constantly trying to learn from my games with a growth mindset.

I can't climb up playing as a support. Advice?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:12 PM PDT

I'm in B1 but I'm actually pretty decent and I want to play ranked instead of normals to see how far I go. The thing is I'm very tired of being the support and end up being the MVP of my team but don't being able to carry the game because I'm the support.

I realised it when the last 7 games with as ADC I won 6 games being the win condition of my team. My last game was my promo and I finished the game 16/2 as Jinx with negative score teammates, if I were that morgana I'm sure I would lose that.

When I entered to League of Graphs and saw my pathetic win rate with Thresh (35% on 17 games) I decided to became an ADC main insted of a Support main because there is NO way I must depend on my teammates in absolutely everything.

But I have this question: There is something I may be doing wrong or elo hell is real? I'm Facrock from LAS server if you want to see my stats.

The intricacies of the botlane dance

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:48 AM PDT

Hey guys, this isnt by any means supposed to be an instructional post, more just my observations on the dynamic of botlane duos, what makes botlanes click and why when it clicks ADC is hands down my favorite role.

Bit of pretext, im your average G4 scrub that grinds to gold then spends most of their time playing blinds as primarily ADC. Ive been playing since S4 or so right at the transition from bloodthirster rush to the crit-adc meta.

Botlane has always fascinated me and been my favorite role because of the laning dynamic with your support. Are they a balls-to-the-walls flash/flay sort of guy, a defensive peeler, or maybe more sneaky with predictive plays? Do they roam a lot or are they the type to try and curbstomp the enemy duo into the ground? Part of succeeding in lane I feel is important is grasping the type of support you're working with, the way they see the flow of the lane.

Communicating these things are also huge, and when i feel like my support and i are on the same page with zoning, punishing, trading or shoving into turret it feels like we can transition that synergy into supporting or snowballing the other lanes. On the opposite side, understanding the dynamic of your opponent duo is another facet that impacts the game. Is there trust between the two? Is the ADC identifying the same lane conditions as the support? Noticing and abusing gaps in communication between the two feels so rewarding. Similarly, feeling like you and your support have each other's back and will help peel/zone the opponents off of you if you misposition or misplay is something you cant experience in a pure 1v1 environment

The more subtle aspects of laning that are attributed to a blanket "duo synergy" you hear in pro play are a lot more nuanced and more interesting than i think is explored by pros and analysts. Anyways, if anyone has any thoughts they wanted to add or context to provide id love to explore more.

    Why play Rengar over Kha'Zix?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:14 PM PDT

This is going to seem like a strange question, but I'm a jungle main looking to expand my champion pool and I'm comparing these two to incorporate into my lineup. I've tried both but I just don't understand Rengar that much. What does he do better than Kha'zix? Kha'zix just seems to bring a LOT more to the table compared to Rengar even though they share a very similiar niche. They both build pretty much full damage, have relatively similar kits, and similar roles in a team comp. But Rengar pretty much requires his ult to engage into fights, then has nothing to get out with. Kha can go in with his E + R, pop the squishy, reset his E, and repeat. I'm not trying to say Rengar is bad because I know there's a lot of people who one-trick him, but jeez his kit seems to be just a straight downgrade from Kha'zix. His winrate is unbelievably awful in low elo (plat and below) as well. So what does Rengar do better than Kha'zix?

    Thanks!

Why have people only recently decided stacking black cleaver and triforce isn’t troll?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:39 PM PDT

My entire league of legends career I was told this was bad because the phage part of the items don't stack. I spent YEARS not buying those items together because I was always told it was troll. Doesent matter I get a sheen prock, AND health, AND armor shred, AND attack speed, AND mana, nope. They share a phage passive so don't buy it.

Why is this a thing NOW when both items some years ago were better items? Triforce use to have crit, the sheen damage I think used to be stronger, black cleaver I think at one point was cheaper, had more damage. Why of all times has the community decided this is a good thing NOW, but not when I was doing this 5 years ago?

How do you lane against a Yasuo?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:10 PM PDT

Decent yasuo players seem so suffocating to play against and im not sure how to shut him down effectively besides capitalizing on HIS mistakes. The only matchup thats bearable is if im on Zed. I can farm safely and if i get his windwall i can always go for trades or the all in post 6. But if im playing syndra or kassadin or seriously anyone that isnt zed i have such a hard time keeping control of the lane. I know im using zed as a crutch to play this matchup but how do I actually play this matchup regardless if its a winning/losing matchup? I want to minimize his aggro and maximize my potential after lane. How do i trade effectively when the wave is in the middle and how do i end up winning lane? Only times i ever beat yasuos in lane are if they start getting too cocky and giga fuck up (which lets be real is usually the case LOL) or if i get jungle help since they usually always push early and don't usually freeze.

Not sure who to main (mid)/(top)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:08 PM PDT

I recently started playing I'm lvl 44 and I'm really enjoying mid and top mostly mid and I don't know who to main

I want a champion that's mechanically complex and has outplay potential so I really like Zed, Yasuo, Akali and I also like fizz and riven so I'm wondering what champions would be good to try out?

When do I stop split pushing?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:20 AM PDT

Hi, I'm a g1 toplaner main that has the habit of always split pushing, I'm playing with my friend who says that I should group up more, but when I do i fell that i could be getting stronger farming up.

I don't know if that's because the champions I play (Yorick, Kled, Darius and Jax) or because of something else.

I've won many games because they came to stop me and we got Baron/Soul/Elder and lost many too because they forced a fight and got the objective. So the question comes back, when should I stop splitting and go group up.

How to play against Sivir when she is able to constantly gain mana from her spellshield?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:27 PM PDT

The other day I was playing as Draven + Xerath into Sivir + Annie. I ended up getting shoved pretty hard at level 1 because of Sivir Q. I thought this was fine, because Sivir has mana issues if she spams spells. However, my Xerath was just constantly trying to harass the Sivir instead of the Annie. Sivir was able to just spam spellshield, and was able to gain pretty much limitless mana. All game I was permanently shoved under my turret because I can't match Sivirs waveclear, and was constantly in need of backing because I'm unable to dodge 15 sivir Qs in a row.

I ended up losing lane harder than I have in a looong time. I was down ~50 cs by 15 minutes or so, and had 2 deaths. I asked my Xerath to stop spamming spells on Sivir because she was getting limitless mana from it, but he just told me to 'stfu and play the game.' Is there anything I can actually do in this matchup if my Xerath does this? Or is this just a classic example of support diff?

I took cleanse because they had Annie + Zac, and I was worried about Annie Q setting me up to be ganked. I was pretty much unable to ever all-in, because of the massive lead Sivir created early on (her first base was bf sword, mine was 2 long swords). I ended up getting flamed by my support + his duo because they just told me that it was my fault I was getting shit on.

    My opgg is: https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=WATERGUN88

The game was the most recent loss. Thanks for any help :>

    Tips on playing nocturne.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:14 PM PDT

Hey, so I am a begginer (picked up the game like 3 days ago) and thought about playing nocturne jungle. Do you have any tips on playing this champion? Stuff like items, jungle routes etc. I've been doing pretty good with warwick (tanky with good damage) and yi (huge damage but squishy). I haven't played nocturne yet but the idea of one shotting from very far away seems pretty cool. Thanks in advance!

    Recovering from an early gank

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:43 PM PDT

I need advice recovering from early ganks in top lane. I have recently learned to ward better but still sometimes die to champs that have high mobility or of course cc. After the gank though between losing experience and probably being a level behind for a little bit, I was wondering what is the most appropriate way to recover from an early gank

    Getting better at the game

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 01:25 PM PDT

A little while ago I decided that I wanted to get good at the game, queued up with that in mind and got into game against a xerath support.

I played out of my mind that game in laning phase. I purposefully dodged every single xerath Q in lane and traded really well with the other adc (miss fortune).

I got ganked and died by the jungler, then my support (braum) ran it down.

The xerath came back to lane with a blasting wand and killed my support again.

Level 6 came and I dodged 3 xerath Qs, and his E but he W R me for 3/4ths of my hp with little counter play.

I want to play like that again because it was the only game I can remember where I played that well mechanically. Baiting the Xerath to Q in one spot and dodging up or down and trading really well.

I want to do that every game but I feel like I just decided to stop doing that after that game. Something about junglers and all that.

Ever since then I've been playing like I did before with a focus more on the mini map and what's going on in the game. Sure it helps that I don't die to ganks so much but I get hit by every skill shot and my trading patterns are much worse.

I've tried going into game with that same mindset (of just getting good at the game) and it doesn't do the trick.

Any ideas on how I can bring myself into that mindset? I want to get a bigger sample size and see if that kind of play style works better in the long run. If my support doesn't int me and I don't die to jungle ganks I think I would do so much better every game playing that way purely because my mechanics will be 10x better.

How to learn SR as a non-gamer

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 01:22 PM PDT

Disclaimer: I have only played since S8, and am only level 114. I largely do not play SR. What amount I have played of SR has been bottom lane a vast majority of the time. As such I do not believe that my perspective is very well balanced or nuanced.

TL:DR - (abbreviated version) - I think that the recommended items are quite sub-optimal when you are very new at the game. As such, stat-stick items should be recommended to new players, instead of items with active abilities or very situational passives.

My sister is 16. She has played Mario games for a reasonably long time, and has a pretty good grasp of TFT. This however does not prepare her at ALL for SR, which is why I said "as a non-gamer". Her mechanical ability to manage her mouse in conjunction with using QWER+DF+1234567 is extremely low, and in high-pressure situations (basically any PvP at all during SR, even trading) she panics and can't use abilities well at all.

Her first champion she is trying to learn on (not my suggestion, just her preference) is Morgana. She takes the approach which I generally hear supported by most people (though I myself do not play this way in any games) of focusing on one Champion and getting to know it well, rather than playing multiple Champions.

My attempts to help guide her to learning have been a test of patience. Not to say I am largely an impatient person. I think I do quite well at letting her explore her ideas and fail and gain experience, but I do try to give advice and show her ways she can improve and things she should pay attention to.

She definitely has been improving, but one thing that I found stood out to me from quite early on was the items she was being asked to buy and how bad I thought the suggestions were. On Morgana, she is told to buy an Ardent Censor, Mobi boots, and Zhonya's Hourglass as her three core items. While on the surface, I'm sure this seems perfectly reasonable to any onlooker, I think it's incredibly sub-optimal for someone at her skill level.

First of all, Ardent Censor. This is a pretty generic item which most Enchanters will get in order to help in some small way, even if they can't land a skillshot to save their life. It seems good on paper, and doesn't even have the worst gold efficiency for the stats it provides. Problem is, she does not have the wherewithal to use Black Shield at the right time, at ALL. At best, she might get the Ardent Censor passive benefit during some small trades of a couple autos. If the fight is anything more than that, however, she is not going to have enough focus or accuracy with her mouse to use the shield until the fight is already over. Even guiding her to use the Champ portraits next to the map has not proven an adequate solution at this point, because her gaze remains fixated on the fight at hand and her rapidly diminishing health as she spazzes and throws pools and bindings every which way, clawing for life.

Second, the Mobi boots. I think that this one is a little more forgivable. Given how much she dies, I can see the benefit in getting back to lane ASAP. However, I definitely think that she would get a TON more benefit in terms of contributing to a fight if she bought Sorcs, or possibly even Tabis/Mercs. If none of those made sense, I would even say the Lucidity boots make more sense to me than Mobis, since she saves 100 hard-earned gold, and gets some pretty valuable cdr, which helps reduce the punishment of her badly-timed abilities.

Third is the Zhonyas. This one is definitely the most egregious to me. To begin with, it's rare at best that she is close enough to a fight and has enough mental reserves to press R with more than 100 health left. In the slim chance that she manages to activate her ultimate, there is almost zero chance that she has enough health, coordination or focus leftover to activate her zhonya's. As such, this item is literally just a stat stick for her, and not a phenomenal one.

With all that out of the way, let me present what I think makes way more sense to recommend a new player such as my sister should buy on Morgana. Stat-stick items with very high gold efficiency that don't require optimal ability use or item activation. The more often the item is useful and provides something she needs most, the better.

1.) Rod of Ages. To me, this item just screams "beginner player with AP scaling". That phat 500hp plus the sweet, sweet 100AP, 400 mana and absolutely brilliant passive (given the damage she is definitely going to be taking with her ability to dodge) this item to me seems the clear best choice, and it's even pretty cheap!

2.) Rylai's Crystal Scepter. This one doesn't offer the exact same bang for the buck, but it's still going to give her a lot better chance to survive, and hey it even makes those pools she loves spamming so much do a bit of extra utility.

3.) Liandry's Torment. Chances are, most games won't go long enough for her to afford this, but it would help her to continue offering meaningful damage despite not making effective use of her kit.

4.) Tear of the Goddess. I don't think that it's necessarily worth the rather exorbitant cost to make this into an Archangel's staff, but I feel like a lot of value is gained from this item during the excessively long hold-outs underneath her turret, since the enemy duo almost always is going to be winning the lane and not knowing any better than to hard push constantly.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially if you have experience teaching anyone absolutely new to the game. I think that item choices are important to adapt both to the opponents you are facing, but also and perhaps more importantly to your own ability to use them.

Also just a general comment, I think it would be great if the suggested items took into account things like your APM and such in order to offer you better choices. I think for someone at my sister's stage of learning the game it almost never will make sense for her to buy an item with an active component, unless it's just that good an item for the stats (theoretically seraphs on some champions).

Needing help with closing out games with leads.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 09:16 AM PDT

    Hello r/summonerschool !

I'm here to ask a quick little question, how do I close out games as a jungler when I'm ahead and my entire team is ahead. Like I feel like I can climb consistently if I just learn how to close out the games.

For a good while I've been losing games that are an easy win since we're so ahead in the early game but my team and sometimes even I int away the lead to enemy hyper carry that then takes over the game.

For example in a game of mine I was playing Warwick against kayn, to sum up the game I got ahead of kayn by like 3 lvls and a lot of gold but then mid game came and enemy Cassio got a solo triple kill and carried the entire game. Now I'm 100% sure I made a lot of mistakes and I'll watch the VOD to see what I did wrong, but that's not the point, I'm sure the game would be a win if we closed the game out a lot sooner before Cassio could take over the game.

It happens in a lot of games tbh I get ahead early but enemy just gets ahead from my teammates that are most likely auto piloting (don't react to pings or anything, like prio mid and bot scuttle is up we can contest it but they don't come and I get killed by enemy jg and their lanes that actually rotate). I'm getting kinda desperate now since I am on a good losing streak and I mainly feel like it's my fault for not being able to close the game out but it feels impossible to do so when enemy gets fed from my teammates.

In advance I thank you for any tips you might give me. Honestly ANY tips will be welcome not just about how to close out a game when ahead. My op.gg is here if you want more information

    https://euw.op.gg/summoner/userName=Patchicus

Yes ik I'm inting pretty hard these past games but that's just tilt coming to me also a quick question to finish this post off is it better to take the kills from ganks as a jungler or do I give it to my laner if possible? (I don't feel like jungler can do much with the kill after ~20 minute mark)
