For the first time since 2015, Kobe will not cast the Worlds Final

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 08:22 AM PDT

    https://twitter.com/esports_kobe/status/1320382856477077504

Huge shoutout to Kobe, who has had an awesome run that only a global pandemic could stop. He's incredible at what he does, and while I think it makes total sense that the LEC team will get to call the final given the year that broadcast has had, it's still a bit of a shame that we won't get to have the usual cross-region tri-cast that we've gotten used to.

    For reference:

    • 2015: Jatt, Deficio, and Riv
    • 2016: Kobe, Jatt, and Quickshot
    • 2017: Kobe, Deficio, and Phreak
    • 2018: Kobe, PapaSmithy, and CaptainFlowers
    • 2019: Kobe, PapaSmithy, and Quickshot
    • 2020: ??? (Presumably Quickshot, Vedius, and somebody)

Seeing Karsa cry on SwordArts shoulder broke my heart

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 12:08 PM PDT

It was a great series today, SN really showing what they are up to and capable of, but watching the very end when Karsa hugs SwordArt and cries a little completely broke my heart. It's bittersweet in the best way I suppose but still sad for some reason to watch him go.

Doinb's Reaction to Bjergsen Retirement & NA Performance at Worlds

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 01:56 PM PDT

After having both VCS teams missing out on Worlds and rallying behind SofM, a peak number of 521 268 Vietnamese fans tuned into today's semifinals.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 08:06 AM PDT

Really shows how big the fanbase actually is. 521k is a new record for Vietnamese viewership, and this mark will most definitely be broken next week when SofM has the chance to become the first Vietnamese player to win the World Championship.

What seemed like the most depressing tournament ever for Vietnamese fans may unexpectedly turn into the most delightful one. It can't be stated enough how big this is for us - sure, having a team from your region bust out in Play-Ins, go 0-6 in Groups or miss Worlds entirely is utterly sad, but now imagine how it feels to have your whole region sit at home from Day 1. How it feels to watch every game of your domestic league all year, asking yourself how your top teams will stack up against international competition only to never have this question answered.

SofM gave the fanbase of an entire country a team to root for. What a wild ride this year has been.

    Appreciation Post for TOP Karsa

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 10:31 AM PDT

Just gonna preface this by saying Karsa, Maple and SwordArt are my favorite trio of all time but I reallyyyyy wanted Karsa to win worlds. The guy has been a beast jungler for YEARS, winning championships in LMS,LPL and MSI, the only thing he hasn't won yet is worlds. I really think he is one of the best junglers this game has ever seen and just seeing him trying to 1v9 that last game and him crying at the end after losing to his former teammate and friend from highschool, that's gotta be really rough. Put some respect on Karsa!!!!!

SN SwordArt on SofM's shen pick

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 07:17 AM PDT

I was just watching the SwordArt post game interview and when the interviewer asked about the jax + shen duo and if that was a pick specifically prepared for TES, SwordArt hesitated a bit and then laughed and said: (paraphrasing) "well actually SofM has never played shen before, but there were no more champs left so we thought 'well let's play shen'"

This was after SwordArt said that they spent 6 hours the previous day preparing for P/B which I thought was a rather amusing juxtaposition.

Also reminds me of bengi's nidalee pick!

Sorry couldn't grab the video yet (on mobile) but will try to grab later.

    EDIT: twitch clip https://clips.twitch.tv/CulturedCulturedChamoisSpicyBoy

    rough translation:

interviewer: next question, in game 3 the shen + jax combo surprised many, is this pairing a 'secret weapon' that your team has prepared for today's match?

    SwordArt: uhhhh scratches head

    interviewer: shen plus jax

SwordArt: Well actually SofM has never played shen

    interviewer: never played once?

    SwordArt: Yes laughs

interviewer: then why does he dare pick it today?

SwordArt: because today we had no champs left, so we thought 'eh? well then shen it is'

interviewer: even such a casual pick has led to such outstanding performance

EDIT EDIT: I missed a word and SwordArt actually said SofM never played shen once in scrims. still incredible imo as it was up against a tournament favorite in the semis and the winner would move up to match point. also still rather whimsical considering how much effort was apparently put into preparing for P/B

Of all the champions that have been played at least 10 times in the Worlds Main Event, Leona has the current highest winrate at 16-5 (76.2%).

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:33 PM PDT

The next highest is Sylas at 7-4 (63.6%).

The lowest winrate is Nautilus at 2-11 (15.4%).

If we reduce the min games played to 5, the highest winrate is Jax at 5-1 (83.3%).

Some CN reactions on Bjergsen retirement

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 09:49 AM PDT

I saw a buddy wants to see some reactions of other regions about Bjergsen, therefore here I try to translate a few from hupu. I'm not very good at English, so I'll try the best I can. Hope u guys enjoy it!

    post 1

So, what about the 4 remaining wards?

Maybe later on, TSM will also officially use the meme "Our main coach is warming up".

    This is too sudden.

Actually I think he is still capable in the NALCS, but after this worlds he maybe do found that he can barely keep up with the intensity and the pace of international competitions, so he chose to leave. It's fine tho, he is not young and he has an imperfect but great career. Wish all the best, the past AP king.

Sigh. Finally this day comes. I started to follow him when I was at my grade 8, 2013. When I searched about this id "Bjergsen" I found no one was using it in the CN server, so I immediately changed my client id to Bjergsen. Can't believe 7 years has passed. All my friends who used to play LOL with me back then quitted this game, and their account level stayed at 30, maybe later on they will come back, I hope.

I don't think his unsatisfiing performance on this tornament can cover the fact that he were the MVPs of all series in the NA playoffs...

    post 2

Wow it's sudden. He is actually very good this year. I think he can absolutely play one more year.

--More years won't do anything if Doublelift still performs the same.

He indeed should move on. "Liaohua serves to be the pioneer when there isn't any outstanding officer in Kingdom of Shu. " (a traditional Chinese saying, indicates that experienced veterans are still fighting on the battlegrounds because there are few outstanding young generals) . He may still be an escort if he plays longer. (I don't know how to well translate here, basically it means that he thinks Bjergsen has very small chances to win following worlds). Now he can look for other important meanings of life. Kind regards, all the best.

Sigh. Another experienced player retires. There will be one less familiar face next year on the worlds, it's emotional. Bjergsen is not trolling, he never did. It's just his performance is not as good as his peak anymore. The meme "A god with four wards" was about him at the beginning. In the early years, Bjergsen has no beard and he is really handsome. (Personally I like him with no beard more) . There were a lot of feelings within me when I saw him with that beard recently. It's not about glory and not about regions, just to see these experienced players leaves the playground is very heart-breaking.

AI predicted SN to beat both JDG and TES (definitely upsets in most minds). Pretty insane that SN vs DWG is considered closer than SN vs TES. Also, that TES vs FNC almost 50/50 prediction really hit the mark.

Do you think Faker will forever be the greatest player of all time?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 03:15 PM PDT

From 2013-2020, Faker has made it to the world championship five times. He won the title three times (2013, 2015, 2016), made it to the finals in 2017 and to the semis in 2019 while playing for SKT throughout his career.

He has also won the LCK multiple times and MSI twice (2016 and 2017). His peak was arguably the highest out of any professional player ever, and his longevity is super impressive.

Do you think he will forever be the GOAT? I think he will have some years left at a high level and it's not unlikely that Faker can win more titles in his career?

    Thoughts?

    lpl꿀잼이라며

You said LPL was fun to watch

    Game 2

Karsa's Lee Sin is a masterpiece

Looks like Knight isn't a Faker-type. He definitely does what he has to do in a given situation, but doesn't actively make plays. Like a better Bdd.

    This is so boring

TES is just a better DRX

Who the fuck said LPL is focused on skirmishes??

No one ever say Jackeylove is the best ADC ever again.

A rare luck-diff bus passenger AD. You're a great cheerleader, Jackeylove.

    Game 3

Do I have to keep watching this

If JDG and G2 swapped places I think G2 would've made it to the finals

Suning is playing better in all 3 games but they can't macro.

Looks like Suning will lose to Damwon because of bad macro

    오늘 lck 경기지 ?

    I'm watching LCK right?

Jackeylove is still the best ADC ever. In entertaining.

Jackeylove is so bad. How can someone's playoffs form be so different than group stage form.

I wanted it to go all 5 games but… wrap it up already -_-

Feels bad for Knight and Karsa. They're the only ones playing the game on TES.

The fact that this game lasted 39 mins is crazy

I'm excited for Bin vs Nuguri

    DRX 어째졌누??

How did DRX lose to this??

    DRX getting reassessed again today

    Game 4

Angel is so good at Akali???

Is this really the same league as FPX vs iG. They collapsed from being the gods' league

Suning is so good at early game setups. We have to be careful

No one got this wrong on their pickems right? Everyone got it?

    Sofm's J4 is so good

I learned a lot from Sofm today. If I'm ahead in Solo queue I'm gonna stop moving and laugh in front of the enemy team.

Sofm really is so good. His gameplay is good too but tilting the enemy team and forcing them to make mistakes is really a top quality as a jungler.

G2 Caps didn’t use a single skin this worlds.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2020 12:00 AM PDT

I checked every single game G2 played and Caps didn't use a skin in any game. Seems he is trying to cosplay Faker (and thus make a 3-1 exit in semifinal match). Anyway I thought it was interesting since from previous splits and matches he often uses skins. Maybe this tournament he just decided to go full beast (which he did mostly) and no skin.

Why didn't Knight level up hist Ultimate till level 10

In Game 3 Knight didn't level up his ultimate till level 10. I can understand missclicking on lvl 6, but repeating it 3 more times has to be intentional right?

My first instinct was, that he wanted to push better for lane prio, but then why skill E before R?
