Huanfeng steps down from LPL All-Stars Roster amid cheating scandal

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 09:03 AM PST

Post from Suning about HF's removal: https://m.weibo.cn/status/4578365258338397

Huanfeng is quite a big meme in LPL right now since his hometown girlfriend made a post exposing him for cheating on her with a bunch of women during Worlds. Here it is for your interest: https://m.weibo.cn/status/4578391547709186

Chinese fans are calling him Sea King, since he has all the little fishies (women) swimming around him. Pretty great work by him to receive a new hate wave after his performance at finals, lol.

Reminder that Riot made a "Snap back onto screen" feature for eternals death recap but haven't made one for the scoreboard in 10 years+

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 09:27 AM PST

    Yes this is actually true.

After 10 years you can still accidentally (or intentionally, for the record) swipe your scoreboard off the screen and it will be lost until you exit the game and then reconnect.

The community gave a lot of backlash about how they forced eternals upon everyone, people decided to disable eternal as they deemed it useless and just another "Cash Grab" opportunity from Riot.

It seems as though Riot did not like people disabling or swiping the eternals death recap off the screen, so they implemented a feature where the recap gets automatically snapped back onto the screen if ever it was swiped off.

The reason this is so concerning is because many people including myself and friends of mine - complained on numerous occasions about the Scoreboard being able to swiped off the screen by accident and lost for the entire game, unless you exit the game and reconnected. Only to be ignored or given some lame excuse about how it's not a priority.

Edit: To the critics, i probably should've stated this has the tendency to happen to junglers more so than laners since we use left clicks way more than laners do. Spamming the scoreboard is a common habit of junglers, paired with clicking the mini map, camps, enemies/teammates, sums/R's of multiple enemies. You can see how this can easily happen. This doesn't mean it doesn't happen to laners too because i have friends who complain about this as well.

Riot employees Katey and Sirhaian talk about skin feedback on Twitter

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 04:34 PM PST

Katey (@moonstonesxo), QA Lead (Skins) at Riot:

As we wrap up 2020, I'd like to speak a bit about feedback and how it affects our content (Skins).

Real change from feedback comes from passionate players articulating what they like and dislike, using examples and specifics.

Ex: I really dislike how Elderwood Xayah's E isn't cohesive with the rest of her kit and feels more Star Guardian.

    We agreed, and made adjustments.

Angry mob mentality, spamming devs, or being crude doesn't make feedback weigh in any heavier, or force anyone's hand to change something. In fact, those tend to be skimmed over in favor of constructive criticism.

Ex: How fucking blind are you, this sucks.

All we know is you're unhappy, but why? It doesn't detail what you dislike or how you'd want to see if improved to make it better. This feedback isn't useful when we discuss potential changes.

Be kind, but honest, and be constructive. Disliking something is fine, but we cannot make meaningful change without understanding where you're coming from.

Sirhaian (@sirhaian), Sr. VFX Artist at Riot:

Alright, I'm sorry, but I need to dump some of my feels here about giving feedback on skins and how we act on it. This might be a spicy thread.

It's upsetting to hear players saying that we don't listen to feedback on skins. We actually spend hours and hours just reading y'all's feedback whenever we release a skin.

We simply cannot reply to every Twitter, YT and Reddit comment we see, and we definitely can't act on every one (especially when they're conflicting, we can't make everyone happy!).

We have limited time and resources. We have deadlines, we have content to ship on time, we don't have armies of people working on a skin and available to act on feedback within a day's notice, and at the end of the day, we are humans.

A lot of feedback is hella good and constructive and we highly value those (and often act on them)! Some feedback, though, is downright rude and quite frankly destructive more than anything else, and we don't take much, if any, value from those.

We act on feedback and/or make changes when we think there is great potential to improve a skin, or readability, AND when it makes sense to do so within our timeframe/deadlines, as well as with our resources.

We try our best to communicate what we change and why, but sometimes we fall short because we are pushing to get the changes made over openly communicating them. We also try our best to explain why we cannot do a certain requested change.

Katey's already mentioned this type of communication is something we're looking to improve next year. I personally feel this is an area we can improve in, and I hope we do!

Feedback is vital to what we do, but harassing and spamming devs won't make a change happen faster.

And hell, it's so disheartening to see so many negative comments saying we don't listen and we don't care. We do care. A lot. We've made a ton of changes this year alone to all of the skins we've put on PBE this year. I hope you've seen them.

I hope you've seen our replies on socials as well. We're trying our best to make sure you're heard and feel heard.

But yeah, I'm sorry we can't act on every single piece of feedback from every player in the world.

Yeah, I know, it'd be great if we could reply to everyone and act on every single piece of feedback, but that's simply not possible. Again, we have limitations, we are humans, and we simply cannot do that all the time.

But, I assure you that when we see the opportunity to improve something and know it's within our means to do so, and we believe the change would be good, then we sure as hell do it. Every. Single. Time. I'm sorry if that is not enough for some.

Just think about it, she fits the bill perfectly for an kda member:

    • female champion
    • champion is well-known/played a lot
    • "attractive"
    • lore version is very different than being a singer
    • not fun to play against
    • snowballing champion

people probably wouldn't be mad if she got the ultimate skin since kata's last skin changes too.

    North American Competitive INHOUSES!

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 08:34 AM PST

    North American Competitive INHOUSES!

Have you been watching CoreJJ's NALCS inhouse streams and wanted a similar arena that you could compete in? Or are you a player who is sick of Preseason Solo Q, and wants a competitive environment to boost your skills for the new year?

Well look no further than our North American Inhouse server! We kickstarted this project a week ago and have already welcomed over 80 Plat+ gamers into "The Fleshing Arena" (named after the gruesome Noxian battleground). We are looking to foster a competitive environment which will allow North American players anywhere from Low Platinum to Challenger to come and improve their game.

We separate players based on Tier (based on rank, until we can properly gauge player strength) in order to create the most competitive matches. After all the games, we document the result of each games in a google doc. Below you will see the Excel document we use to track all the stats from each game, which players can look back on and reflect. There is even an internal leaderboard, where you as an individual can challenge for supremacy and be hailed as "The Reckoner"

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1g6hcg0oCbjZesscyxxvloH7YiVIJwz8f4x2QC_F1dtE/edit#gid=924436764

Currently we are running every Friday night, but our ultimate hope is to foster enough of a community so that we can run scrim nights whenever there is enough demand!

If you're looking for a competitive League of Legends community to improve your game, then this server will become your new home! If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them!

We'll see you in the arena.

How is 'Disenchant All' not a thing yet?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:46 PM PST

Title. Hextech Crafting was launched in early 2016. It's pretty annoying to have to click each champion shard and select 'Disenchant into blue essence'. Even within the same champ, if you have multiple shards it should let you do them all at once. It's a simple QOL improvement that would make the Loot system more user friendly.

the guardian items in ARAM are heavily underrated

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 02:07 PM PST

yeah, you could use your 1400 starting gold to get a component for your first item, but the guardian items are just so gold efficient for the stats you get, AND they now count as a legendary item in season 11. I've been building a guardian item every ARAM game, and I feel like my ARAM winrate has gone up a little.

I play so many ARAM games where nobody ever buys the guardian items, and I have no idea why

When does Frozen Heart's damage reduction actually happen? It doesn't matter right? WRONG

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 04:15 AM PST

When does Frozen Heart's damage reduction actually happen? It doesn't matter right? WRONG

!! WARNING: MATH AND NUMBERS AHEAD !!

So I was playing Cho'Gath today vs a full AD team and got something stupid like 6k HP and around 350 Armour with mountain drakes etc.

Frozen Heart (henceforth referred to as FH) states:

Reduces incoming damage from basic attacks by 5 per 1000 maximum health, capped at 40% of the attack's damage.

Plated Steelcaps (henceforth referred to as boots) states:

Reduces incoming damage from all basic attacks by 12%

After some quick excel sheeting and checking equations on the wiki, I saw that the order of when FH, Boots, and your Armour reduction happens actually matters. And the question as to what the "Capped at 40% of the attack's damage" actually means - does this mean that the reduction is capped at 40% of the basic attack, or that incoming damage for purposes of activating the "Rock Solid" passive from FH is capped at 40% of the reduced damage? This makes a HUGE difference in how much damage you actually take from a basic attack.

For a hypothetical basic attack of 350 damage before reductions, assuming 0% armour pen & lethality, and 350 Armour, if the order of reduction is:

    • Boots -> FH -> Armour or FH -> Boots -> Armour,
      • you take 61.7 damage.
    • Armour-> FH -> Boots,
      • you take 5.7 damage.
    • Boots -> Armour -> FH
      • you take 38.4 damage.

I didn't do all the calculations for all possible combinations, as this is not a thesis, just me wondering.

Basically if armour % reduction happens first, then you gain the maximum benefit. If FH passive works on the incoming damage as observed after the % reduction in armour, then the passive will never trigger. If the passive does trigger after armour reduction then you will take 0 damage form auto attacks up until a certain AD threshold (for this example of Cho with 6k HP and 350 AR, that threshold is ~293.5 pre-mitigated basic attack damage).

I have read some things on the wiki and I can't seem to find when the different damage reductions trigger. Anyone have some insight on this? It doesn't actually change anything. I just want to know.

Anyway. Cho is fun and you should play him to Nom Nom other champs.

Edit 1: u/Nigidus_The_Needy has done some tests and has reported that the order of reduction is Armour/Boots -> FH. Will update if more people report results!

Smurfing in Clash has gotten bad as I experienced today

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 01:26 PM PST

Sorry for the English, no native speaker here.

First of all, let me say I think Clash is the best thing Riot has done in years. I love it and I absolutely look forward to every Clash with my friends.

We are a group of players that play on a low silver to high Gold Level. Needless to say, we have never won a Clash Trophy. Nevertheless we always managed to win a game or two and the ones we lost were close atleast.

That didnt matter because the fun was to do the prep, the pick and bans and work as a team like you never do in Flex Q.

Sadly this has changed the last two times we played. In November we won our first game and lost Game Two to a lineup that had three players in it that won a Tier III Clash. WON a TIER THREE Clash. We havent even won a Tier IV Clash yet. We put that one up to matchmaking and took the loss in good fun.

Fast forward to this week. We had 2 Teams this time, 5 mutual friends of ours applied as well. We tried to lock in as early as possible to maybe get the same bracket, we didnt. No big deal.

Then we get our first enemy. They have 2 bronze players and one iron player. Each of those players had 100% Winrate on each champion they played in ranked. 4 of the 5 guys played Clash together before, with a winrate of like 27 to 2. The 5th guy was Platinum.

We got our ass kicked as never before. Laning phase went okay, but on the 3rd drake we got completely smashed and lost the game in 4 minutes straight. They just rolled over us like a train. It completely took the fun out if it. Because we knew going into the game that we would loose, got hope in lane and then got smashed. Because, of course, they are smurfs.

Confronting them they said "What? I AM IRON!"

2nd game was kind of close, we lost, but it was evenly matched.

The 3rd match, again, had a smurf player. Platinum 2, completely smashed us with his Corki, also had won a Tier 3 Clash previously.

Which means, and this is the crazy part:

Our bracket was so full of smurf- Teams, that the Team that had a Tier III Clash winning Midlaner and otherwise solide upper Gold Members, rocking a 80% Clash Winrate, LOST THE FIRST TWO GAMES!

The first team we played lost the final, which means the team there was also smurfing, and our friends informed us that they played against a smurf team in the 1st round, too.

What I think is happening here is the following: Tier I / Tier II teams make smurf accounts and stomp us noobs as practice before their lock in window starts.

Because this was the only time we locked in right at the start and it was that bad.

I want to stress that we dont have a problem with loosing. Like I said, we never won a clash and just enjoyed the close tournament games.
But this afternoon broke us. We had no fun at all, were angry the whole time and seriously questioned if we wanna play Clash in the future at all. And if it goes on like this, we surely wont. Also I wanna stress that this is a 100% sure call on the smurfing. All their accounts had only done the placement games and always won 9- 10 games of placements.

I think Riot has to invent some way at solving this issue in the future. One fix right now could be to prevent Accounts that already entered a Tier III Clash from ever entering a Tier IV Clash. That would make it a little bit more even, but the smurfing issue still stands.

Sorry for the long post, I am interested if we had very bad luck or if this happens to some of you in Tier IV as well.
