I'm just glad that the poster boy for League on mobile will probably be Ezreal and not some angry dude yelling at the camera

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 05:30 AM PDT

I don't really do mobile gaming much nowadays so idk if it's still like this but I remember back in the day like, eeeevery game on the mobile store just had some slightly miffed dude as the icon. It wasn't so bad the first or second time but when every game was doing it and the app store was just full of irate blokes, boy did it start looking silly. Hopefully smug boi Ezreal is the poster child for Wild Rift instead

Unless of course they decide to make Aatrox the mascot it which case uh oh

How watching Worlds made me less toxic

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 05:38 AM PDT

First of all, the idea of this post is that maybe someone else will read it, think about it and become less toxic as well.

Ok, so while watching Worlds, I saw a lot of "bad" stuff:

    • Players dying a lot (0/5/0 top laners, 0/9 supports and so on).
    • Players getting solo killed.
    • Players making a lot of misplays (fail flash, fail combos, bad decision making and so on).
    • Teams losing games before it even starts (terrible drafts).
    • Teams getting completely smashed in teamfights, while having lead.
    • Teams losing objectives because they are completely out of position.

Seeing all this made me think, if Pro Players, the absolute best ones in the Worlds, make such a mistakes, why would I get mad at a player for doing a same mistake in my SoloQ game???

    • If one of the best top laners in the Worlds can go 0/5/0, why would I get mad at my 0/5/0 top laner?
    • If Faker gets solo killed, why would I get mad at my teammates dying 1vs1?
    • If pro teams can have a terrible draft, why would I get mad about trash team comp in my soloQ games?
    • If pro teams can lose teamfights that they shouldn't lose while communicating in Voice Chat, why would I get mad if teamfights occasionally go wrong in my soloQ games?
    • If one of the best teams in the World allows enemy to sneak baron because of poor vision/position on the map, why would I get mad if that happens in my soloQ games?

Seriously... think about this every time you are about to call out someone of making a misplay. 90% of us are casual players, we aren't pros... Why do people anyone expect more from each other than from pro players? You are literally asking Silver/Gold/Plat/Diamond player to make less mistakes than a pro player...

Instead of flaming the person who's doing poorly, give him/her some tips, encourage him/her to not give up and play his/her best despite a bad start.

Im not Pantheon player but i don't want him to be guted like Kalista after 2017 worlds.

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 08:13 AM PDT

Right now Pantheon have a...100% ban rate at Worlds, like Kalista in 2017. And most of us know what they done to her after that. I hope that Pantheon will not join to club "we are trash because of pro scene"...this is realy shit thing, after that, in most cases, riot games completely forgets about champion. That feels bad, believe me.

A quick update with some fun facts about Vaevictis eSports, our favorite 0-28 LCL team.

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 09:56 AM PDT

Early last year, an LCL team by the name of Vaevictis eSports received quite a bit of attention due to the fact that they dropped their entire league of legends roster and picked up five platinum/low-diamond female players

In two of their first official matches after making this change, their opponents (RoX and Vega Squadron) were officially warned for Unsportsmanlike Conduct. RoX for banning 5 support champions, and Vega Squadron for dragging their game out to a score of 52-2 before finally ending it.

I wanted to give a quick follow up on the state of the LCL and how Vaevictis eSports is doing.

    Vaevictus eSports General Stats

    • Record: 0-28
    • Kills/Game: 6.9
    • Deaths/Game: 26
    • K/D Ratio: 0.26
    • Average Gold Deficit: ~16,892 Gold
    • Average Game Time: 21:54
    • Towers Taken: 11
    • Rift Heralds Taken: 4
    • Dragons Taken: 7
    • Barons Taken: 0
    • Inhibitors Taken: 0

    Other Fun Facts

    • Vega Squadron clearly got the message from their warning. They have since posted the two fastest game times, beating Vaevictus in 13:04 and 15:21.
    • Vaevictus took their first tower ever (and second) in their 11th game
    • In 14 games in Spring split, their Mid Laner averaged 4.74 CS/Minute.
    • In their 12th game they lost in 18:57 to a Lee Sin mid, and an ADC Nami. You are reading that correctly.
    • They lost to Teemo Top and full AP Nunu Jungle
    • They lost to a Tryndamere top who built Locket second item
    • They lost in 15:21 to an AP Malphite Mid
    • They lost in 17:04 to a Trinity Force Warwick Top
    • They lost to an AP Ezreal Support
    • They lost to zoomie Rammus Top. His build was mobi boots, righteous glory, shurelya's, and he wasn't quite finished with deadman's plate when the game ended
    • In their most recent game they lost to twitch jungle and lethality graves ADC
    • They are no longer a full female roster they have played their last 11 games with a male mid laner.
    • This organization somehow hasn't been kicked out of the league

Reapered opinion on how to improve NA

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:28 AM PDT

    https://twitter.com/Reapered/status/1186141879882010624?s=09

He says the most important thing for him is the Bo3 format. I think this could be done for LCS and LEC if they had 4 broadcast days like LCK, LPL and many other esports leagues.

In addition to that, players like meteos have been pointing out satirically how they would have won already if it was at 60 ping. Personally I think it is about damn time there's a NAW server.

But hey, what do I know. Everytime someone proposes something to improve LCS he gets shutdown so might as well stay the same and I said this as an European fan.

Why is it possible to get autofilled to a role and have your primary role assigned to someone who chose fill?

I chose Jungle mid, My premade Mid Top. We got put bot together. Turns out our jungler actually chose fill. So why doesen't the system put me in the role i chose. And instead gives it to a fill and autofills me support. Is the matchmaking system broken?

This aged well! Remember this analyst desk interview with Romain about EU talent? Everybody thought he was crazy!

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 11:24 PM PDT

At the end Romain says he thinks they wont beat Korea with imports but instead he believes that they will beat them with EU talent.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLDryQi3hNI

Now EU has advanced with all EU rosters and FNATIC had a EU first team that made it to finals last year and G2 won MSI with a full EU roster!

    Legend!

    EDIT:

Wow wasn't expecting this much attention, Thanks!

Just to clarify as it seems some people are getting the wrong idea, I don't think EU is better than KR and nor am I saying they will beat KR, all I'm saying is that there was a time most people thought that western teams could not do well with out imports and that their own player pool would not be enough.

Now in the past 2 years EU has shown that they can compete and they can beat some of the best

    Vlad is an abomination

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 09:06 PM PDT

This blood sucking hemomancing mosquitoesque leech needs to be veigar ulted out of this game. I myself am a filthy vlad abuser but every time im playing an off role or my secondary and the enemy team picks him I get a hole in my gut. The champion when played right just needs to hit level 9 with 20% cdr and your game is over. With infinite sustain he erases trades period. That means he's super forgiving if the vlad player messes up but if you slip up even once he has the ability to pressure you out of control. He's a goddamn ranged top too as if being himself wasn't opressing enough. His late game team fight is also unparalled because of how easy he does AOE, a damage amp on his ult, and because of his pool, the ability to easily get backline access.

    tl;dr

Yeet this twilight cosplayer out of the game

Non-marksman champions in BOT lane at Worlds have a winrate of 36% so far

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 11:32 AM PDT

Here's the complete list of play-ins and group stage.

    Champion Wins Losses
    Syndra 0 4
    Kayle 1 0
    Yasuo 3 1
    Irelia 1 0
    Morgana 0 1
    Heimerdinger 1 3
    Veigar 0 2
    Garen 3 2
    Cassiopeia 0 1
    Zoe 0 1
    Sona 0 1
    TOTAL 9 16

Kai'sa and Xayah remain the most picked / banned ADCs at Worlds with a winrate of 55% and 67% respectively.

Despite their lower winrate mages have a considerable lead in poke damage charts.

With Heimerdinger leading for the mages (732 DPM) and of course Ezreal in first place for ADCs (499 DPM)

NA and EU week 1 vs week 2 winrates in group stage: Data and Visualisation

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 09:27 AM PDT

    Graph and data here

Since there is so much talk about EU surging and NA dropping off during week 2 of group stages, I wanted to look into it a little further. The starting year is 2015, since it is the first year using the current format. 2014 was the first with 16 teams/4 groups, but the dynamic was different because week week 1 had all games of groups A/B and week 2 all of C/D.

    EU Details

    • EU averages a 42% winrate in week 1 and 65% in week 2.

    • 2015 was EU's only exception by winning 5/9 (55%) in both rounds. They improved every other year.

    • Individual EU teams had better week 2 performances 10/15 times.

    • Fnatic participated 4/5 times.
      They average 33% win rate week 1 (4/12) and 93% in week 2 (14/15).
They improved for every week 2 and advanced from every group.

    • G2 also participated 4/5 times.
They average 50% in both weeks (6/12 and 7/14).
They improved 2/4 times (50%) during week 2, but advanced only when they had worse week 2 performances.

    • Splyce participated 2 times.
      Splyce won 1/6 (17%) in weeks 1 and 4/7 (57%) in weeks 2.
They improved both times and advanced once.

    • H2K participated 2 times. H2K won 2/6 (33%) in weeks 1 and 5/7 (71%) in weeks 2 - an improvement owing entirely to their 2016 run when they went 4-0 in week 2.
They advanced the only time they improved in 2016, which was a leap from 1-2 to 4-0.

    • OG, MSF, and VIT participated one time each.
      They won a combined 6/9 (67%) in weeks 1 and 5/5 (50%) in weeks 2.
Only VIT improved in week 2, OG and MSF worsened but qualified.

    • The EU teams that improved their average winrates are Fnatic (4/4 times), Splyce (2/2), H2K (1/2), and VIT (1/1).

    • The EU teams that did not improve their average winrates are G2 (2/4 times), OG (0/1), MSF (0/1)

    • EU teams won all their week 2 matches in 4/15 cases: 2015 Fnatic, 2016 H2K, 2018 FNC, 2019 FNC.

    • No EU team lost all week 2 matches.

    NA Details

    • NA averages 53.4% winrate in week 1 and 26.6% in week 2.

    • 2018 was NA's only exception when they improved from 3/9 (33%) to 6/10 (60%). They dropped off every other year.

    • Individual NA teams had worse week 2 performances 10/15 times.

    • Cloud 9 is the only western team that participated every year.
      They won 9/15 (60%) in weeks 1 and 5/17 (29%) in weeks 2.
They only improved their second week a single time in 2018 (1-2 -> 3/1) and qualified for knockout stages 3 times (60%).
They had the biggest possible drop in 2015, going 3-0 during the first week and 0-4 in the second.

    • TSM participated 3 times.
      They won 5/9 (55%) in weeks 1 and 2/10 (20%) in weeks 2.
They never advanced from groups and always had a worse week 2.

    • TL participated 2 times.
They won 3/6 (50%) each week. They never advanced from groups, worsening and improving their week 2 once each.

    • CLG participated 2 times.
      They won 4/6 (67%) in weeks 1 and 1/6 (17%) in weeks 2.
They never advanced and worsened both times.

    • IM, 100T, and CG participated one time each.
      They won a combined 3/9 (33%) in weeks 1 and 1/10 (10%) in weeks 2.
None advanced. 100T and CG went the same in both weeks while IM worsened (2-1 -> 0-4).

    • The NA teams that have worse average week 2 winrates are C9 (3/5 times), TSM (3/3), CLG (2/2), IM (1/1)

    • The NA teams that had equal winrates in both weeks are TL (1/2) 100T (0/1) and CG (0/1).
No NA team has a better average winrate in week 2, however C9 and TL did it in 2018.

    • NA teams lost all their week 2 matches in 5/15 cases: 2015 TSM/C9/CLG, 2017 Immortals, and 2019 Clutch.

    • No NA team won all week 2 matches.

    Direct Comparisons

    • EU and NA met in 10 different groups, exactly 2 times every year. 67% of EU and NA teams share a group with the other region.

    • The winrate in direct comparisons is more balanced between the weeks than it is overall:
      Week 1 EU 60% - NA 40% (score 6-4)
      Week 2 EU 58% - NA 42% (score 7-5)

    • NA had a positive winrate against EU in week 1 and equal winrate in week 2 until this year, when they went 0-2/0-2.

    • EU advanced from 70% groups they shared with NA, compared to 60% of non-NA groups.

    • NA advanced from 10% groups they shared with EU (C9 2:0 VIT in 2018), compared to 40% of non-EU groups.

    • All EU and NA teams that shared groups in 2016 got knocked out (G2/CLG, SPY/TSM) - the teams that didnt both advaned (H2k and C9).

    • EU and NA only met once in knockout stages when FNC defeated C9 3:0 in 2018.

    Conclusion

    • The overall regional trends are indeed strong and occurred in 4/5 tournaments. I

    • Individual teams however only follow it 67% of times.

    • Many of the current top teams are not all that prone to this trend - C9 only follows it 60% of times, G2 and TL only 50%. This is pretty close to a tossup.

    • Fnatic however has followed it every single time.

    • Even though NA has a pretty good group match record against EU (at least before this year), shared groups are more likely to advance EU and kick out NA teams.

    Reasons?

I don't feel confident in any definitive explanations, especially not based just on this data. However I suspect that NA teams alack depth and adaptability, leading to them getting beaten once their opponents have gotten used to their style a little. Whereas many EU teams, especially Fnatic, appear to thrive from adaptation and stress. They may however also occasionally benefit from other teams lacking strong motivation (SKT 2019, iG 2018) or having worse nerves (RNG 2019, iG 2015) during the second round.

    Corrections

    • Fnatic went 4-1 in week 2 of 2017, not 3-2. (yet to be corrected in the graph)

    • MSF went 2-2 in week 2 of 2017, not 1-2. (yet to be corrected in the graph)
