Riot really needs to step up their communication with players regarding client issues

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 11:55 AM PST

This is just unprofessional at this point. It's like the company doesn't have enough staff to have someone communicate back and forth with European players about the status of the client and what is happening behind the scenes, how they're trying to resolve the issues, etc. Just nothing. All we get is the client generic message about how Ranked queues were disabled due to issues, without any further information.

Riot Games wikipedia page quote: "As of May 2018, Riot Games operates 24 offices around the world, in which it employs 2,500 staff members."

And I'm sure the number is definitely higher almost 2 years after that. How can they not have better communication with the player base on what's going on with the client? But they're quick to get feedback on skins and anything related to the cash shop. It's all just so disappointing.

The client is still giving error messages before and after playing games yet there's no information on why that's popping up.

For how GIGANTIC the game is, Riot absolutely sucks at PR.

TCL's superstar(a.k.a the faker slayer) and first openly gay Dumbledoge came out with a huge homophobia around him and retires.

It basically about homophobia against him. His team member Zeitnot and some of the other TCL players gossiped behind him about his sexual orientation. You can translate it if you want but this is huge.

We work at Riot Games, and we've got jobs you've (probably!) never heard of. Ask Us Anything!

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 10:19 AM PST

UPDATE 4:40PM PST: The AMA has "officially" ended, although a few of us may choose to stick around answering questions! This has been incredibly fun, and all of us enjoyed responding so much. I did a manual count and counted over 350 responses from the AMA participants. Thanks so much for coming with so many great questions!

Riot has 2,500+ employees and contract workers with really cool and valuable jobs: copyright lawyers, space planners, security experts... Most never get to interact with players. We wanna change that. So today's AMA features a number of people who don't normally get to talk to players. Some of these folks are full-time Rioters, and some of them are contract workers. All of them work at Riot Games and are crucial to helping bring you the game(s) you love.

The AMA will be split into two sessions, with the first group joining us from 10:30am–12:30pm PT, and the second group answering questions from 2:30pm–4:30pm PT!

    Group 1 (Active 10:30am to 12:30pm PT):

u/The_May0r is the Senior Broadcast Producer for the LCS. He works with the production team and onair casters to tell stories and provide coverage for the LCS teams.

u/RiotToast is a Global Policy Strategist for Global Esports. He works on the Competitive Operations team to help design, implement, and manage Riot's global event structure and competitive ecosystem.

u/RiotAryeila is an Editor for the Tech Department at Riot. She runs the Tech Blog, supports tech communications, and posts pictures of her pets in work channels daily.

u/RiotVizRT is a Senior VizRT programmer on contract with the LCS. He adds data-driven graphics to the League broadcast, like Baron Power Play, Inhibitor Timers, and live graphs.

u/RiotDavin is Director of Insights for Riot Games. He helps researchers, analysts, and strategists all around Riot study and learn from players so that we can better serve them.

u/Isomalt is a Program Manager on the NA Regional Team. He works with partners to create IRL events, reads a lot of contracts, and started Riot as the Head of Food & Beverage.

u/RiotPubBard is a Production Coordinator on LoL Marketing. He wrangles creative teams, keeps everyone organized, and project manages publishing campaigns (recently, Preseason)

u/jenfolds is a Senior Instructional Designer for the People Team. She creates global learning experiences across a variety of content like feedback, people management, self-awareness, and more—she's also the worst Warwick you've ever met.

u/Riot_Shadowstorm is a Program Manager in Technology Operations. He helps keep the Technology Department running smoothly, leveling up Riot's technologists and improving department processes.

u/RiotTechOps is a Program Manager on the Technology Operations team. She makes learning & career development opportunities a reality for our Rioters in tech. From online curriculum about software testing to a year long class ending in a scary ropes course, she is there making sure these programs go off without a hitch!

u/RiotSafeandSecure is Riot's Director of IT and Security. He handles technical and security stuff for Riot's non player facing things, is awful at League of Legends, and loves sour gummi worms and lifting weights

u/RiotReleaseMan is Release Manager for Legends of Runeterra. He coordinates and executes all of the release activities that ship Legends of Runeterra to players, is Master in LoR, and absolutely despises Ezreal and Heimer decks.

    Group 2 (Active 2:30pm to 4:30pm PT):

u/Eneopa is Senior Quality Assurance Analyst on contract with the Localization Technology team. She helps Riot uphold its quality bar, leads risk analysis, and drives testing upstream all while climbing the rank ladder as support, and taking care of her dog, Karma.

u/RiotMobility is a Sr. Global Mobility Analyst at Riot. He manages mobility tax and global visa compliance for Riot, including for Worlds and MSI (aka the least sexy job in eSports).

u/RiotLocTech is the manager of the Localization Technology team. Her team builds the tools that enable translation and create the localized/translated builds of Riot's games (97% of players are playing on a localized/translated build. She also used to be the Localization Producer for LoL where she oversaw resolution of bugs affecting non-English builds.

u/superchIoe is Lead Stats Analyst for the LCS. They provide the numbers backing up the LCS, MSI, and Worlds, run the LCS stock market, and have all the excel tips you could ever need.

u/CloakOfTheBat is Riot's Associate General Counsel, a former top 5-ranked Starcraft player, and the world's tallest lawyer.

u/RiotWolfPack is an entire team of people behind the Player Support website, the tech on the site (like the How Much Have I Spent article) , Hextech Repair Tool, the internal tools that Rioters use to 'Riotize' their accounts, and the tools agents use to help players in Player Support. (So many different tools that work for players, Rioters, agents, etc.) Many of them have been at Riot working in backend tooling for over six years, with two being at Riot for almost nine years, so we can answer a lot more of the questions from those fabled years.

u/RiotTacticalRedPanda is a Graphics Producer for the LCS, MSI, Worlds, and ASE. She brings the LED stage and venue screens at events to life - think opening ceremony graphics, champion select effects, and team branded looks.

u/dzareth is Strategic Advisory lead for League of Legends. He oversees a number of strategic functions, like analytics, revenue strategy, growth, strategic finance and data. He also basically lives at Riot's Bilgewater cafe.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 01:25 PM PST

The river never felt like an actual river. More like two stagnate ponds.
Why not have tunnels through mid for the river to flow through? A water fall up top to serve as the water source. And it flows off the map at bottom lane.
    Make the rift feel alive.

The MMR should not be hidden

    Posted: 20 Feb 2020 11:42 PM PST

I've seen a lot of complaints about matchmaking in the last days, in my games , on fb league groups and on reddit. And truly, can you blame the people that have doubts about a system that relies entirely on invisible numbers. People will always have doubts on a system that they can't as little as check, especially if the numbers required to check it are purposely hidden for no real reason whatsoever. The main reason i could've find for keeping mmr hidden is because "it will confuse players", but isn't it doing the opposite?

At the end of the day, if you are silver but meet platinum players in your games I believe you deserve an explanation. And not, "your mmr is higher"/"their mmr is lower" is not a valid explanation.

Yasuo is going to be the next champion who‘s cost is reduced from 6300 to 4800

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 12:32 PM PST

Everytime a new champion is released, the oldest 6300 BE champion will be reduced to 4800BE.

This makes me kind of sad because I remember back in 2015 when I started playing league the champions who where on top of the shopping menu when you selected „order by price(high)" seemed to be the coolest and most powerful for me. (As a newbie who had at most 5 450BE champions on his account)

    The Hashinshin Fallacy

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 08:30 AM PST

Meaning: You can make any champion sound OP. That doesn't mean the champion is OP.

If you've ever watched Hashinishin, most of his stream is him getting riled up and ranting about how balanced certain champions are. He is a master at making champions sound OP. Anything from Ashe to Ziggs. This is where I coined this term from as I see many other people engaging in this fallacy. This subreddit is full of them.

Fiddlesticks is a balanced champion for example. I don't think anybody has anything outrageous to say about Fiddlesticks. Here's a case of the Hashinshin Fallacy in action:

This champion is absolutely broken and nobody is talking about it. Fiddlesticks' passive ties in way too well with his kit! He gets bonus movement speed after the same amount of time it takes to channel his R! How can you escape from his ult damage without using flash when he has over 600 movement speed?! There's absolutely no counterplay. Not to mention he can ult over walls! Don't even get me started on his Q which not only fears you into turrets but also reduces your movement speed by 90 PERCENT making escaping from ganks impossible. His W makes it LITERALLY impossible to trade with him as a melee champion because he heals too much WHILE he damages you with an 80% AP scaling.

I think you all get what I mean. People engaging in this fallacy will overuse words like "basically" "literally", "no counterplay" and "impossible" to exaggerate the balance issues of a champion.

What do you guys think of this term? Since it's just a shower thought I haven't really dwelled on its legitimacy much.

Edit: this post is not really about Hashinshin. It's more so about the fallacy

Edit 2: Guys. This isn't about Hashinshin.

Wolf and Sandbox Announces RCK (Return of Champions Korea), An Bo3 Event Match Between Legendary Retired LCK Players

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 03:06 AM PST

    https://tgd.kr/36690824?q=RCK

Sandbox Network just announced that, on 6 PM, 11th of March KST, they will be holding an event Bo3 match between two teams consisting of retired LCK players. The teams are:

Team Demacia: Looper, Ambition, Dade, Pray, Wolf

    vs

Team Noxus: Marin, inSec, Pawn, Space, MadLife

Set 1 will be each player picking their signature picks, Set 2 blind picks, and Set 3 the normal tournament draft picks. It will be hosted on the official Sandbox Network twitch channel (twitch.tv/sandbox_go).

This has been teased by Wolf on his streams for a while now, and while there's (as far as I know) no English casting, it'll still be a fantastic opportunity for people who miss these players playing to see them playing at an official pro game!

(btw, this doesn't conflict with the official LCK games, since by that point, we'll be in the 2nd round robin, meaning that there are no games on Wednesday).

Shouldn't we have a ping "Need vision here" ?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 02:10 AM PST

I've been playing quite a lot these days and something crossed my mind : Why don't we have a "Need vision here" ping ?

As a placeholder in order to get my allies warding a specific area, I use the "Assist me" ping paired with a ping on my allies' trinkets or simply an "On my way" ping BUT I must say, it doesnt always work/ and is misunderstood.

This is kinda frustrating because as a botlane player, I would like an easy and precise way to tell my fellow partner that we need to refresh our wards here or there idk but we need to cover our asses. But this is the same for the others lanes, think :

    - A jungler would like a ward at a certain place to cover one of his buff. Of course he could type it and ping the place he wants a ward to be put on, however I guess that as the game moves on, this kind of indication won't be written anymore..

    - Same for a solo laner, so that they can themselves put wards at the opposite side or whatever.

    - To cover major team objectives..

And I can think of a lot of others situations when that ping could be useful just to coordinate the team's warding system !

I mean, we already have the "Area is warded" ping which is extremely useful (RIP the "Tri-bush is warded" era), so why not the "Need vision here" one ?

Edit 1 : Thanks for all the replies, I wanted just to summarize them a bit : Indeed, people are using different methods in order to have their teammates help them put vision on the map (that often works/takes some time to be understood). But still, a single ping could do exactly the same thing CLEARLY for everyone.

Edit 2 : Been reading a lot of comments like "Type it in chat then ping the area where you'd like a ward to be put". As far as I experienced this matter, people won't always immediately read the chat and thus follow the ping associated with plus you have to take the risk to drop your mouse an instant, lean your eyes on the chat box and type in it ; this could be deadly while a simple "Need vision here" would immediately draw attention to the teammates AND won't need you to stop your doing for even few seconds.

Edit 3 : While there are tons of comments in favor of it, I fail to understand the drawbacks of the suggested ping comming from those "against it". Why would it add more toxicity considering that the issue already exists in the current pings and why would it be useless while no other ping CLEARLY defines the need to have an area warded ?

It was on this very day, February 21, 11 years ago that Teemo, the swift scout was released in League of Legends. 11 skins and countless shrooms later he is still one of Leagues most iconic champions, known for his global taunt and laugh. He's also a unit of measurement! Happy Birthday Teemo!
