If you need help with what roles or champs to play, feel free to comment in this thread. Be sure to help out others by answering questions as well!

There have always been lots of posts on /r/summonerschool asking for help with champion pools or advice on what roles to play/swap to. Since these threads are only applicable to a single person -- the creator of the posts -- we have created a megathread to keep more generally applicable threads on the frontpage.

If you have any questions about rounding out your champion pool or identifying your strengths and weaknesses, post a question! Feel free to include a link to your op.gg profile if you wish. Remember that the more detailed questions will get more fulfilling answers.

If you're a new player, consider checking out this page for champion recommendations as well as other beginner advice, guides, and explanations of champion classes/roles.

Here are some guidelines for posting in this thread. You don't necessarily have to answer these questions, but they do help responders give better advice.

    1. What are you looking for help with?

    2. Who do you currently play?

    3. Why do you play them?

    4. How do you play them? What is your playstyle? What role do they fulfill?

    5. What are you good at? What do you want to be good at?

Also be sure to check out websites like https://lolalytics.com/ and www.op.gg to add some statistical basis to your judgements.

Top Lane Counterpick Complete List, my take

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 05:43 AM PDT

There's a post on /r/leagueoflegends named " Top Lane Counterpick Complete List ", others have asked me to assemble my list with my opinions. I'm a top laner that peaked masters last season and is currently sitting in d3.

Format will be Champion X: Champion Y(Champion X match up favoured, Champion Y match up favoured). Additionally I will only be listing the hardest match ups as listing every single one for every champion is too much work. Here is my take:

    Volibear: Darius(45-55), Illaoi(40-60), Kled(45-55), Ryze(40-60), Tristana(40-60), Yorick(40-60)

    Yorick: Illaoi(40-60), Irelia(45-55), Mordekaiser(45-55), Quinn(40-60), Tristana(35-65)

A 45-55 is a hard match up, 40-60 is a very hard match up. While 30-70 is unplayable. This is my opinion and is not the absolutely correct list.

Hey /r/SummonerSchool. I built a website to search for VODs.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 10:38 AM PDT

    Hello, long time lurker here.

I have always liked reviewing VODs of good players to improve at League.Usually, I would search for a specific champion and/or match-up on youtube, but I rarely found what I was looking for.

As such, I have build https://lolvod.gg/

This is a personal project, to help me find VODs more easily.

I thought this could be helpful to other people, so I am sharing it with you guys. You can search by streamer, champion, matchup (just write vs. + champion name, like vs.yasuo), lane, rank, keystone, and server.

Feel free to let me know any feedback; I am quarantined so I will definitely have time to see it.

Something I don't see suggested enough - Pick for your ELO.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 07:23 AM PDT

This is something I see suggested a lot when people ask what champs to main, etc., but I wanted to frame it as it's own discussion. You don't need to play flashy champs to win, regardless of what role you play. Honestly, your win rate will likely go up playing simpler champs (also because simpler champs are more economical).

Don't make things any harder for yourself than it has to be. Take Riven for example. Balanced around animation cancels and all kinds of mobility and weaving your autoattacks in between ability use and using shield. Yasuo you have to track what minions you dash to so you can get out after a trade. Aphelios requires you to understand what the hell all your guns do, and really master your positioning since you have the mobility of a tortoise. A good initiation on Lee Sin usually requires ward hopping, great flanks, etc.

Now look at some of the options for simple champions. Garen is a monster top lane right now and is really simple. I see lux get fed far more often than yasuo. Trundle, WW, amumu, rammus are all super useful junglers that require little mechanics. Tristana is still a great adc in low elo, and when the enemy comes and you are inevitably out of position, you jump away and push R. I have yet to see a good Yuumi in bronze or silver. Nautilus on the other hand, is a bronze monster.

Also when I say simpler champs are more economical, it is because a lot of them are built around utility/ CC, so even if you are behind you can have a big impact. Oh you are jungling and you died a couple times early? Huge problem for something like shaco or karthus or lee. Amumu? Not so much. Land a bandage toss and R and your team will still win fights more often than not. WW? Press R. A behind yasuo doesn't offer much to a team. Lux can start a fight by landing a Q, and you can hide behind a front line and still do damage.

What's going on when I play in silver? (midlane)

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 01:11 AM PDT

I swap between playing in Silver 1-3 and playing in P4-D4 ranges and it's very weird.

My ranked best was G1 0LP, but now I'm still working through silver and I hate it. But often I play with much higher elos, up to Diamond II where P4 is honestly lowest.

I'm NOT in fact a great laner. And I'm not 100% sure why. I've been told by very high elo players that my mechanics can be extremely good, but I mean to clarify that this isn't the same or doesn't stop me from getting run over by any mid-elo siver player for whatever reasons.

For instance, I'm sort of joking here, but just going to say what I'm seeing/feeling. I play a high elo custom game and I know how people walk and how I can land a skillshot or a hook. I'm ready to wait for their movements and people always keep at auto spacing range.

In silver right now, if I'm in a terrible mood I might die over and over. Or, in my worst matchups I might feed Fizz really badly and throw my hands in the air in utter confusion. Silvers aren't supposed to do that!!! I was joking saying that I'm playing against silver opponents who straight up dodge better than diamonds. I mean, I'm not clear what's going on. I try to throw skillshots at D4 adc's in botlane and I can land hits. Then suddenly in Silver, bam, I can't crush the lane or lane at all. Maybe my skillshots are so easily predicted and they know when things are coming. Or I don't even know how to land things. I don't even win lane through kills. I just shove them in or something. I mean that's pretty goddamn simple to do, so I don't screw that up.

I'm suspecting that I'm actually not having a good experience from playing in two very disparate elos. I'm thinking in silver/g4 I fail to build the proper skills up and then I have (apparently) useless skills or habits from playing in the P4+ range. For instance, I watch very closely for when people go for CS in botlane as a support.

When I play mid in silver, for some reason I just can't do a jack shit with that. I know this might not all be very clear so I will try to answer questions if anyone has any given my own confusion over what's going on.

    Anyone able to relate?

LOW ELO TOPLANE TIP FOR CLIMB, CONSIDER PICKING A TANK

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:34 AM PDT

    Hi,

If you are playing toplane and you are low elo and want to climb you should try to pick a tank toplane.

    Pros:

    • Tanks are more effective than bruiser in fight and low elo player only want to fight 24/7
    • Most of the Tanks have really high base damage, specially in lane, and in low elo people will underestimate this so is not impossible to kill the enemy 1 vs 1.
    • Tanks, most of the time, have more hard cc than bruisers, cc win the game in low elo, with a a hard cc you can pick people out of position, peel for your carry, flash into the enemy adc, cc chain him and keep him out of fight for 6-7 second, provide cc and utility to your team, you alredy have other 4 people who want to do damage and kill people.
    • Tanks are always usefull even when behind, doenst matter if you are 5-0 or 0-5, if you are malphite you only need to hit a good R to win a fight, ofc when behind you are less tanky but still pretty usefull (but still don't go 0-12).

    Cons:

    • Tanks can be hard countered by anti-tank champion, darius, mordekaiser, illaoi, ecc. All these champion can be a pain in lane but remember, you will be more usefull after lane if you don't feed, give up cs, farm up, try to make plays with tp, your goal isn't win the lane, you want to win the game.
    • Tanks are bad in splitpush against other duelist, champion like fiora and trynda who splitpush 24/7 could be a pain, a good splitpusher will be difficult to manage but in low elo most of the time you can easily force a fight 5 vs 4 or send 3 people to kill the splitpusher while his team will be farming the jungle.
    • Tanks cant 1 vs 9, i read this lot of time "as a tank you rely on your team and you can't 1 vs 9 if your team is bad", is true, if you have 4 bad teammates you can't win the game as a tank but to be honest, unless you are smurfing, if you have 4 bad teammates 99% of the time you just lose whatever role or champion you are playing.

Some picks for low elo (just my opinion):

    • Ornn: it was nerfed but is still a great champion even if not so easy to play, high damage, good defensive scaling after level 13, good engage with R and buff your teammates in late game with buffed items.
    • Maokai: Easy to play, lot of cc, decent damage, nice sustain both in lane and in fight, can engage on the enemy carry and insec towards your team or just peel for your carry.
    • Malphite: Strong lane against aa champion, high damage against squishy, is a nightmare for the enemy comp if they are full ad, too bad malph doesn't have lot of cc but he has a really strong engage with R (in low elo people stay really close so isn't hard hit a 3 man ultimate).
    • Cho: easy to play, good lane sustain, high damage, objective control, amazing scaling both offensive and defensive, if cho goes ahead is difficult to manage without % damage, in late game you can F+stoneplate+R the enemy carry and make him cry.
    • Sion: High damage in lane, Good engage with R, can roam after lvl 6 to help midlane, good defensive scaling thanks to W passive, unluckily sion doesnt have instant hard cc other than R

How do I understand how to play out the lane? (Mid)

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 01:36 PM PDT

So I watched a coach Curtis video about understanding your trade pattern, playing the lane around when you and your opponent want to back, etc. It makes perfect sense when he talks about it but in practice it's way harder.

I played two games on lux today, my main. I know that I should in general look to poke with e and not get too low and not heavily trade resources Vs assassins. I want to back when I can afford last whisper, ideally.

My first game was Vs orianna, her cooldowns are shorter than mine but her range is also shorter. So apart from poking from e like I always do, how should I look to beat her? My second game was Vs ryze, I know he wants tear gold before tping back to lane, how do I play around that?

I realize I am talking about isolated cases and in real games there are millions of variables, but the first step should be understanding these isolated, ideal situations, right? How do I improve at evaluating and defining win conditions for the lane?

How different will ranked be compared to draft pick

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 11:42 AM PDT

I'm currently level 29 and I main Olaf Jungle, I'm excited to get into ranked but how different will it be compared to draft pick, will placement matches be with people from random ranks or from other people in their first time in ranked? I'm guessing it'll be more toxic too. Any tips going in?

    AD Kayle vs AP Kayle

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 11:19 AM PDT

Can anyone explain how Kayle's AP build is any good? All of her recommended items are AP but I have no idea why because imo it turns Kayle into a borderline useless support. I'm talking about the gunblade/nashors/guinsoos build vs the stormrazor/shiv/Crit build or her on-hit AD build. AP items are expensive and the damage feels very lackluster, while if you build AD you do lose out on Kayle's AP ratios but become the hypercarry she's supposed to be. Am I doing something wrong?

    When should I follow Yasuo?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 08:46 AM PDT

I'm a jungler trying to escape iron and I am completely clueless about what to do when I have a Yasuo in my team. They will just take every fight and they can win a 3v1 and lose a 1v1. I'm talking about things that happen in the same game. They run it down and I always see it as a 50/50 because I don't know what to expect. Sometimes I follow them and we lose the fight. Sometimes I go to farm and they get a double kill. CS and levels don't really seem to matter too much. It just seems random to me. Should I know about some particular powerspike? Should I play Yasuo myself to understand him? Also they sometimes dash in and out of the fight. How do I know when they are going to dash out after a dash in?

    Ekko JG Powerspikes?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 04:05 PM PDT

Trying to learn Ekko jungle but a bit unclear on when in a game I am most powerful.

For example, with Rek'sai I know that there are very few champions that match my level 3, especially the level 2 laners. I start falling off pretty hard after 2 items though (i build Warrior-> duskblade which i know isnt standard)

But ekko, do any ekko players have advice on when i am most powerful in a standard game (not fed / feeding)?

Having a hard time pushing my lead as Azir

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 03:30 AM PDT

I can play as perfect as I want in lane (not saying my micro is good, just saying my macro is absolute shit), but when it comes to mid-game, I just do fuck-all. I roam when I see an opportunity, I help jg when I can. No matter how fed I get myself and help others we still just lose. This has become a recurring theme in my Azir ranked games (I have a great wr on other champs, but I really wanna get good at Azir)

If I figure out how to drop a replay I will, for now my op.gg

What to do as adc if you're behind

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 09:31 AM PDT

I just played many games the last days as adc in normals and clash and 90% of the time I get behind in CS and kills to the point where I'm useless. Sometimes it is junglers diving, sometimes it is just because of support matchups or just bad plays from my support or me. But when the enemy ad is 1 item ahead i just farm everything I see to get anything done and most of the time I stay useless for the rest of the game.

I started to get frustrated and somehow I didn't deal any dmg in the last 30 games, even if I'm even on the lane.

Any tips or things I should focus on learning?

    Master Yi ganking help

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 07:55 AM PDT

I need help with jungle Master Yi in general. I'm mostly a jungle player, and I typically play Kayn, but I also can play Evelynn. Master Yi seemed interesting due to his fast and powerful kit, and due to the fact that he is quite good in today's meta. I'm pretty decent at identifying where I should be rotating towards when preparing a gank, but whenever I engage, the enemy will usually out damage me significantly, or they will have enough evasion to escape me without me tower diving. Further more, many times when I gank, multiple people such as the midlaner and enemy jungle will collapse on me, outnumbering me significantly. Due to this, many of my games will go horribly wrong, discouraging me from playing and/or improving. What should I be doing when ganking as Master Yi, and what can I do to make ganking easier, more frequent, and more efficient, especially in solo queue?

My camera control sucks as long-ranged champs.

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 04:05 AM PDT

So here's the gist. I use unlocked camera, but never locked camera, and I hear some people say you should center your champion sometimes. I like to play long-range champions like Lux, Caitlyn and Senna. But I noticed that I keep shifting my camera everywhere, constantly trying to keep track of where I am and where the enemies are at the same time. Then it leads to mistakes like someone getting too close without me noticing, or me walking up without meaning to. What can I do to fix this? It's more of a problem than it sounds lol. :/

Do top players rely on prediction or reaction to dodge skillshots?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 03:22 PM PDT

I think there are 3 different approaches to dodging skillshots:

    1. Seeing the skillshot come out, noticing the direction its heading and reactively dodging away from it
    2. Seeing the skillshot come out, but not noticing the direction its heading, so dodging in anticipation of where the skillshot will land
    3. Not seeing the skillshot come out, but instead predictively dodging their skillshot by baiting it and using random mouse movements

Which of these 3 do the top players generally use? I really struggle with reaction time so I'm worried that if I do just number 3 I will be held back based on raw mechanics. Like, even if I'm playing Kassadin and I think to myself 'ok, when the ahri charm comes out I will ult in this place to dodge it', I can't even react fast enough because the charm is so fast.

How to play enchanter vs hook champs

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 01:44 PM PDT

Hi, guys. I'm a support main and enchanter enthusiast. I've been having a reaaaally hard time whenever I play against hook/engage champs.

I have no idea how to play against them. Lately, I've been buying relic shield and max heal/shield and play extremely defensively and I don't think it's the right way of playing, but every attempt of me being aggresive most of the time ends up as a death sentence.

They just bypass minions and none of my poke can stop them. Can y'all give me some tips and tricks how to play against those type of champs? T _ T 😫👉👈

As a farm-focused jungler, when is the right time to switch to red trinket?

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 05:15 AM PDT

I main Nocturne and Master Yi, and am currently in my Bronze 1 promos.

At this elo, vision is really unpredictable. Sometimes a support will place 30+ wards in a game, and sometimes they'll place 7. Laners usually ward their bushes, but then sometimes ignore the map when I come to gank. I mainly farm until level 6, but still go for picks/rescues when I see a good chance. I also always buy a control ward each back, unless it would prevent a major purchase (usually buy around 5 - 7 control wards over the course of the game).

I want to build good vision habits and keep improving, and I understand that one of my jobs in mid- to late-game is supposed to be clearing enemy vision. With this in mind, is there an approximate minute or point in the game after which I should probably be sweeping with oracle lens? It also gets a little more complex with Nocturne, since his ult benefits quite a lot from blue trinket (so maybe I should pair that with Umbral Glaive, instead). Just seeking general advice on this topic, thanks!

    AD MF Support(lethalety+bc)

    Posted: 17 Mar 2020 02:52 AM PDT

Saw a video from ioki yesterday playing support mf with gb umbral and black cleaver. Comet manaflow trans scorc cheap shot ultimate hunter.

Tested it out myself in silver and already get flamed hard for just picking her... Dogshit pick, you have <50 w\r and no mf played etc. Played with a ash(she was friendly:)) and we laned Vs yuumi trist. We already zoned/poked them from lvl 1 and the whole lane went pretty well. I ended 6/1/10 or smthg and we just stomped bot...

Gb+umbral synergys really well with your W passive. And with ultimate hunter your ult is basicly every fight up if you can at least get 2-3 stacks

After bc you are basicly a 2nd adc. I played and enjoyed her last Season.

    What your thoughts?
