Patch 10.16 Discussion and Bug Megathread

Patch notes should be the first thing that pops up on patch day for the client.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 09:02 AM PDT

There are too many people that don't keep up with patch notes and jump into ranked.

I get the Spirit Blossom E-dating sim is important to many but I'd really prefer not having a teammate just not read the patch notes.

Most people don't even realize it, they just load league and brb then q.

Even if it's in their face and don't read it, it guarantees more people at the very least will be aware of what happened and natural curiosity of what changed.

PSA, get your Yone Champ Shard through Spirit Bonds and save some Blue Essence!

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 08:48 AM PDT

Saw a post shortly after Lillia came out that most people bought her for full value without realizing you can get her through missions. Figured I'd preemptively remind people you will be able to do the same with Yone!

Emotes from masterwork chests is a slap in the face.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:01 AM PDT

I know that some people like emotes, and that's fine.

But for many of us, especially low/no spending players, masterwork chests come along very rarely.

To open one up and receive an emote is such a disappoint, especially when regular chests contain so many emotes and are so much more common.

I've unlocked nearly a hundred emotes now, I care about... 3 of them. If I really wanted more, I'd have bought them for the pittance of RP they cost.

Even an emote SHARD would be preferable; at least then it could be converted to orange essence instead of throwing away a key and a chest for something few players care about.

I am 34 years old, and I reached Diamond today.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 06:14 AM PDT

I know this may not mean much to most of you, but for those who care, please hear me out.

I had a lot to deal with in 2019: got dumped by my girlfriend of five years, had a dear friend diagnosed with cancer, and another acquaintance who confided in me, commit suicide. All in the space of a month. I didn't know it then, but it's apparent when looking back that I was suffering from depression. League was my choice of escape from the realities of life. It was my 5th consecutive season of reaching diamond.

Fast forward to season 10, things were not so easy anymore. Too many new champions, too many patches; I struggled to climb the elo ladder this time. I remember being 2W up in my diamond promo series early in march, only to have teammates grief and run it down three games in a row. That set me on a path of destruction, culminating in a 30 game losing streak and an end result of P4 0lp. It was then when all the self-doubt from 2019 came back. I seriously considered quitting the game and moving on with life like an adult. I also wondered if I have become too "old" to be good at a game meant for teenagers. The question gnawed at me and I was determined to find out if I'm really washed up.

500 games later, I've achieved what I set out to do. There was no celebration, no one congratulating me, and it doesn't matter. It's in this quiet lonely moment that I realised the importance of self-belief in turning thoughts into reality. You guys may say i'm being too dramatic over a game, but it's what that prevented me from going insane after a particularly rough year. It's a part of my identity that I can't lose.

If you guys are interested in tips on how to climb the ranks as a mid-30s dude, I can write a part 2 to get into game specifics.

Till then, i'll pat myself on the back.

edit: no opgg in garena so here's the promotion game for ppl asking.

'Twas the night before Jax buffs

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 12:00 AM PDT

'Twas the night before Jax buffs and all who played Top,

Their hearts filled with dread and begged Riot to stop

The tickets and tweets were furious and bitter,

As they spammed F5 on Mark Yetter's Twitter.

No luck, however, as patch notes decreed:

    "Counterstrike cooldown: 16 to 14."

    All throughout midnight, top laners would weep;

All but Fiora mains, who were soundly asleep.

"You're just overreacting," said LS with a laugh,

But their fear remained of the grandmaster's staff.

TFBlade squeaked with glee, knowing what this meant:

His 17th unranked to challenger series--this time, 90%.

Harambe would soon be on suicide watch,

As he cried for Wukong buffs, patch after patch.

And Adrian's viewers hope for a Riven game, perhaps,

But for now, he's known as Adrian "Adrian jaxbuffs" Jax.

So what path, dear reader, will you choose on the morrow?

For one, you can ban him, to avoid risking the sorrow.

You can play him yourself, or just take a break.

Merry Jax buffs to all! Now revert them, for fuck's sake.

Did Riot seriously put the next two EU clashes on the last weekend of LEC regular season and the finals weekend of LEC?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:48 AM PDT

And yes, the times completely overlap, so it's impossible to both play clash and watch LEC. I guess this isn't that big of a deal, but I assume a lot of people who play clash also watch pro play and we already don't get clash that often these days, so this really sucks for those people.

Riot client using 2x more CPU and 1.6x more GPU power than an Android emulator running a 3D MMORPG game *while patching*...

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:40 AM PDT

You can see the usage here.

It's really weird seeing a client patching a game use more power than a full-on Android emulator running an MMORPG game. While the CPU usage "might be justified" (due to patching, not the client), the GPU usage on its own is insane. In the end, it's just a browser tab displaying the status of the patch...

Reminder: Nexus Blitz recieved changes with the newest patch addressing common complaints

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 07:53 AM PDT

On this sub there have been recent talks about how people hope Riot make adjustments to the mode without simply giving up on it after its playerbase has plummeted. Well, luckily we just recieved the second set of changes for this mode!

    https://twitter.com/JoGraylock/status/1290856762258550784?s=19

Hey friends. We're rolling out a Nexus Blitz micropatch to address some of the pain we've seen around Jungle Guardians and a few of the event rewards. These are live as soon as you have access to 10.16, between now and your normal patch time, depending on region.

Changes: Jungle Guardians ->AD per level, HP per level, Base Health, Armor, and MR all reduced. The goal is to make it easier to overcome the Guardian, during events and invades later in the game. They should provide safety to teams who are behind, but not for the whole game.

We also reduced the duration of Elder Dragon reward 120 -> 90 and the GA reward 90 -> 60 seconds. Rewards should be powerful, but these were giving too much time for the swing they generate.

This is on top of other improvements we made for 10.16 that should help with Guardian impacts on events, such as increased spawn points for the most impacted events. We appreciate you playing Nexus Blitz, and we want to make it as fun as we can for you all.

I think it's important that people realize these changes were made. 1. For people to adjust how they play the mode and 2. So that whatever final narrative comes about for the game mode can remain honest.

Edit: also further in the thread it is mentioned that the Syndra bug for the jungle guardian was patched. Presumably fixed Blitzcranks, Thresh, etc. as well

Lethality Jinx Ult doing 4,000 damage to baron

They recently removed the cap to monsters from her ult as a stealth buff. Does a little for regular jinx. Lethality jinx though? Good luck smiting baron. My 5 recent baron steals feel a little less impressive now...

I tested and found it killed around 4.1k. You can see my build in my other videos.

TIL: The Riot office main phone number is narrated by Phreak

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 10:37 AM PDT

I called the Riot's front office phone number because I haven't been able to play league because of timeout issues for 3 days; and listened to the narration. Near the very end I'm like wait...that voice sounds familiar. I called again and it DEFINITELY was Phreak. It was also a bit cheesy at the end, call it for yourself!

Pobelter benched from CLG's LCS roster according to Dominate's twitter

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:21 PM PDT

    https://twitter.com/IWDominateLoL/status/1290853375328673792?s=19

Imagine benching your best player right before playoffs when you're on the cusp of not even qualifying. I still can't figure out what went wrong with CLG. They went from MSI finalists who received, at the time, a massive sponsor in Madison Square Garden for future development and then just did nothing with it?

Idk man, might be time to stop betting on Stixxay / Wiggly and just build a new team around Pobelter but we all know they won't.

Thoughts from a Dota 2 player that has played nearly 300 games of league in the past month and a half

    Posted: 05 Aug 2020 03:10 AM PDT

I have about 4k hours in Dota 2, and that was the game that originally got me into the genre back in 2017. I have a lot to say about that game, but this post is going to be about my thoughts on what I've learned about league in the short time I've been playing it/the things I like about League more. Me and my friends have recently transitioned to league after being consistently disappointed with Dota for months on end. In the short time I've been playing, Riot has released multiple major cinematics, two characters, a dating simulator, an entire extra event (nexus blitz) not even related to the spirit blossom event really, and many extremely detailed skins that I've spent too much money on for having only 300 games. Anyways, heres some great things -

    1. First off, something just generally more fun - Scaling. I love the idea of AD/AP, and abilities scaling off of that instead of a number + percentage of spell amp (which is super rare regardless). I played a game right before I made this post in which I went AP Jax jungle and went lich bane -> nashors and it actually worked, even though hes typically played as an AD carry. The scaling on abilities makes the game a lot more FUN when you start winning, rather then hard carries completely taking over and dictating the game post 25 minutes anything can really come out of left field to surprise you. Building items like deathcap is just so much more FUN then when you get an item powerspike in Dota.
    2. Objectives. Things like the elemental dragons/rift herald make the game a lot more dynamic and add a lot to do whilst you're playing a game of league. Games of Dota generally last longer with less objectives and just general stuff to do around the map.

    3. Jungle. This kind of tacks onto the previous one as well, but having a dedicated jungle role, blue/red buffs, and all the little knicknacks inside the jungle like the blast cones and river fruit, theres just so much more to the jungle rather then the carry hits creeps occasionally in there or a hero takes an occasionally creep from a camp under their whim.

    4. Characters. The characters and lore feels so much more vibrant and interesting compared to Dota, like Bilgewater seems like a place you can actually imagine yourself being in with everything that is going on there. Pyke, Naut, Fizz, etc... Its just so much better then "oh a bear and a armadillo type thing fought in a bar now they're rivals" Although I do love Tusk regardless. This also extends to ingame, there are some basic dota style characters like Lulu that are just point and click, and then characters like Yasuo that someone coming from Dota would not even understand what the fuck is going on the first time they tried playing the character. Skillshots are just not common there.

    5. CINEMATICS. OH MY GOD THE CINEMATICS ARE COMMON AND INSANE. The Awaken and Warriors cinematic got me intensely hyped up for a game I had played 20 matches of, even though I did not know the characters names at that point. The more I went into the lore watching the videos of Noxus, Demacia, Ionia, the Isles (love thresh and lucian btw) the more I quickly fell in love with this world.

    6. BARD. Bard.

Thats all I really have to say on the matter, it looks as if this will be my primary moba for a while now, as it is so fresh and new to me now that I have finally given it a realistic shot.
