I feel terrible for deriding this 0/10 Varus.

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 11:56 AM PDT

Like any other evening, my best friend and I hopped on League to play some blinds. We're both nearing our 30s so we're not taking this game as seriously anymore. We just want to pop off for a game or two on our mains and call it a night.

For reference, I'm around high Gold/low Plat level (depending on seasons) and my friend is consistently Diamond. This means that we are usually matched with and against people who know the basics of this game.

Enter this person who instalocks Varus with Teleport and Heal. Given that it was a blind, we didn't think much of it. Maybe he had some secret dark tech. Who knows. After all, I run stuff like HoB J4 and Xin bot lane all the time. The benefit of the doubt should always be given (for a blind).

But this Varus proceeds to die as early as 1:45 minutes in the game. He walked through the minion wave to hit the Alistar (drawing minion aggro) and promptly got 100-0ed. He then TPed back in and attempted to make the same "play" again. The outcome did not change.

My friend typed: "Are you a bot?"

He replied: "Sorry, it's been a while."

The feeding continued for the rest of the game. By 15 minutes, he was 0/7 with 33 cs. He was effectively un-carriable. It was worse than a 4v5. He was a walking gold sack that did no damage.

I didn't say anything this whole time. But I did glance at the game timer every five seconds, desperate to leave the game ASAP and steer far, far away from someone of his caliber. We finally managed to surrender at 20 minutes.

Contemptuously, I decided to look him up on OP.GG. Indeed, how is it possible that anybody can be so bad? Was he griefing on purpose? Was he letting his little sibling play? I needed an explanation.

What I've uncovered beset me with profound sadness.

For as long as his match history goes, this guy has only played Varus, with the same combination of summoner spells, against bots. Of course, he would stomp them.

Our game was the only game he played against actual humans in a month.

Essentially, this man has been honing his Varus against bots, too scared to play his champ against real humans. Only after a month did he finally gather enough courage to bring his main in a real game... just to get dumpstered in the most humiliating fashion possible.

This game probably meant a lot for him, even though it meant nothing for us. I got 14 kills on Lethal Tempo J4 the next game building Trinity Force and Death's Dance. I got to go to bed having achieved my late-game fantasy on my favorite champ.

But for him? This game confirmed his suspicions: playing against real people is scary and never fun. He is most likely never going to play a real game anytime soon. In fact, he has only played a single bot game after this one and has been inactive since.

I guess I just feel remorse for my apathy. I feel bad for judging his personal worth solely based on his LoL play. Above all, I feel bad for being part of an experience that may possibly turn him away from this wonderful game forever.

I've since added him on my friend list, hoping that he would log on one day.

I'd like to apologize to him for this terrible experience and maybe even explore the practice tool with him. Teach him the basics. Even if he caps out at a Bronze level, he'd be "good" enough to enjoy the game as it is intended.

    [FANART] KDA The Baddest/DIAMOND: Ahri

I really liked Ahri's new design for the official skins for the new KDA versions. I wanted to give a kpop video vision like the drawing I did several weeks ago, but this time with a fresher touch. I'm trying to improve my composition and color skills and I thought this was a good opportunity to do it.

This drawing has taken me about 4-5 days to complete.

I hope you like it, regards.

Seraphine base splash art paintover to be more Piltover

I tried to make Seraphine look a bit more like she fits in with other Piltover characters by doing a paintover of the original base art. Also got rid of the glitter and her wings as those seem like things that should be saved for when her future Star Guardian skin eventually comes out.

Here is a side by side comparison of the changes I did. (I also made her hair more closely in color to all of the photos of herself from twitter)

The Observers for Quarterfinals have been absolutely terrible

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 06:11 AM PDT

I know it's been said that the Observers have been pretty bad all worlds so far, but man I didn't think they'd get even worse.

They missed out on a bunch of key moments and fights and seemed to be lost at where to look on the map. And don't even get me started on the replays.

I wish we could get the LCK or LEC observers for the rest of worlds

Scandal: nine out of ten teams pulls out of professional LoL league

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 07:57 AM PDT

Yesterday, nine of the ten participants teams of the argentinian Liga Master Flow, which grants a spot to the promotion tournament to the LLA and is semi-supported by Riot, stated a unified post in which they communicated their decision.

    https://twitter.com/FuriousGamingLA/status/1316483927822000129

    https://twitter.com/LucasBenaim/status/1316493011447173120/photo/1

The statement was simultaneously posted by the orgs 9z, Coscu Army, Feint Gaming, Furious Gaming, Isurus Gaming, Malvinas Gaming, Flow Nocturns Gaming, Undead Gaming and Wygers, being River Plate Gaming the only one that didn't pronounce.

Minutes after that, the LVP (organizer of the "Liga Master Flow") posted the official answer, stating that they will keep up the league and opening their 9 vacancies to the best proposals.

    https://twitter.com/LVPar/status/1316529483390816257

There was no follow-ups by the orgs or explanations by the CEOs on why did it happened; only the 9z CEO tweeted "The scene is made by the ones who love it" and, after that, "No one's against nobody, everyone's on the side of a wealthy scene and with equal footing. Thank you to LVP Arg who opened the doors for us, now it's time for the epic".

    https://twitter.com/FrankkasterX/status/1316497167234863105 https://twitter.com/FrankkasterX/status/1316498926648930305

Speculations were made on all LATAM, considerating that it could start a domino effect on the other leagues regulated by LVP (Chile, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica and Venezuela).

The main reason of the pull-out that sources bring would be that the orgs received an insignificant part of the huge ammount of sponsors money that the league obtained; even one of the teams (Feint Gaming) had to loan their place on the league because they couldn't sustain their roster. Bringing context, the argentinian Liga Master Flow was a huge success, being by far the most watched on all LATAM and in some cases even being more viewed than the LLA.

Sources also bringed that the LLA Promotion tournament cancelation, another scandal that happened two weeks ago, was not the main reason, but the cherry on top.

TLDR: Nine teams from one of the second divisions of LLA pulled out from the league, the tournament organizer decided to go on anyway. There's no information available, but sources suggests that it could've happened because of poor distribution of the money that the league receives.

The castors/analysts during pro matches shouldn't have to ask the observers for how many stacks certain champions have.

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 05:55 AM PDT

The title more or less covers it. It's something I've seen asked by the castors basically every game across multiple regions and tournaments given the prevalence of champions like Senna.

It seems like a pretty big oversight IMO that the amount of stacks a champion has isn't just displayed on the champion portrait above the level for spectators to see, or have it displayed on a stats side bar on the lolesports site. Given how important stacks are for champions that acquire them, and how most of the time the stacks are linked to big power spikes, it seems like something that should be displayed instead of just inferring based off the time.

    edit: Casters. Not castors.

Stop acting like pros can 1v9 in their sleep at Worlds

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 08:04 AM PDT

All these comments and threads talking about players like Chovy, Deft, Knight, Bdd etc acting like if they aren't 1v9ing and going 20/0 then they're just playing like garbage are getting insane.

This series was a prime example, you had Chovy playing weak lane, no jg support, either playing supportive or into counterpicks with his team getting dominated across the map and people are trying to say he deserves the Dade award for "underperforming"? Do people actually watch the games? Players can't magically just go 1v9 against the best teams in the world every game especially when they're playing weak side and not being put on carry picks in pro play.

Just because a player isn't 1v9ing doesn't mean they're not impacting the game massively, Knight is a prime example, he's had some huge plays in team fights that have massively shifted fights in favour of TES. Yet because he's not getting 5 solo kills in lane and being 10/0 at 15 minutes playing Nocturne into a TF he's apparently awful and overrated?

I feel like people can't enjoy half these games at worlds because they've got insanely unrealistic expectations of what good plays are and think because people aren't playing like they're on the super server then they're obviously washed up.

The smurf queue changes have had an enormous impact on the quality of our gameplay

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 11:32 PM PDT

Have the rest of y'all noticed a more evenly matched teams over the last month or so?

My wife and I are, objectively speaking, awful players. We've languished in Iron for most of the season, with around a 50% win rate. We'd stopped playing for the most part a couple of months ago, devoting ourselves to aram and for-fun modes.

With worlds starting up we caught the ranked bug again, and jumped back into it. Same champions, same roles, just like before. But we started winning. A LOT. We checked our win rate tonight for the month and it's been absolutely insane. We were talking about how almost all of the games have been relatively even, with only occasionally one player or another dominating.

I went looking and apparently the smurf queue was revamped or updated recently, and the timing seems to coincide almost exactly with our reversal in fortunes. Not having to contend with players vastly above our skill level means we can put into practice the lessons we learn from youtube and reddit and actually climb.

I finally get it why LCK lose to LEC two times in a row. Because LEC knows Shakespeare better! (854 upvotes)

    Fnatic Week 2 - Legends in Action Worlds 2020 - Episode 4

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT

In 2020, DWG have played 102 games. Since July 19th, they are 27-2.

    Posted: 15 Oct 2020 06:36 AM PDT

Why? Because of Sunmi's Instagram post.

Going from a 59% WR (43-30) on the year to a 93% WR from July 19th to now is clearly due to some external force or motivation. Most of these games weren't close, either--their record against every team they've faced since July 19th is below:

    • JDG: 1-1 (Worlds Groups)
    • GEN: 2-1 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • SB: 2-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • DRX: 8-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin, LCK Finals, Worlds Quarters)
    • HLE: 2-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • SP: 2-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • DYN: 2-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • T1: 2-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • KT: 2-0 (LCK 2nd Round Robin)
    • PSG: 2-0 (Worlds Groups)
    • RGE: 2-0 (Worlds Groups)

Valdes, Atlus, and Achilios are going to appear on Korean variety show Welcome, First Time in Korea? - Tonight 830pm KST... so in about 1 hour.

The show focuses on foreigners in Korea, whether it be for a quick vacation or long term foreigners.

They will show Valdes casting an LCK match, and Atlus and Achilios showing up at Valdes' apartment and playing League together

Good to see Achilios back with the LCK crew

    Highlights of the show:

    1. Valdes plays League games
    2. Atlus joins him, sets up on Valdes's living room station, they play together
    3. While they are playing, Achilios arrives, but Valdes/Atlus can't hear him ring the doorbell, so they leave Achilios outside the house for 10 minutes before finally hearing and letting him in.
    4. Once Achilios gets in the house, they all queue up together
    5. They finish gaming after who knows how many hours, and start talking about top Korean e-sports players aka Faker.
    6. Korean cast members continuously compare Valdes's house to a PC Cafe
    7. They make dinner - Valdes on Jjajangmyun, Atlus on Spicy cold noodles, Achilios on Sausage/Rice Cake skewers
    8. Achilios finishes making his food first, so he casts Valdes and Atlus making their respective dishes
    9. They go back to gaming
