"Balanced" doesn't mean a champion is healthy for the game

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 07:42 AM PST

Many champions are theoretically balanced if you look at winrate but that doesn't mean they should be ignored balance wise.

We all remember the balance philosophy for stealth, especially Eve, twitch and rengar. Then S11 came. A khazix going invisible 3 times combined with dusk blade isn't healthy. It might not be op but it's frustrating to play against. Yi is the same, with his Q with dusk and quickblade allowing invisibility and immunity several times. Maybe a less optimal build but nonetheless unhealthy and frustrating to play against.

Same goes for damage. Everyone does high damage so it seems ok. However missing half of your abilities but killing them anyway because of inflated damage numbers is not ok. It removes outplay potential and minimises skill expression.

If balancing considered this aspect I think the game would become more enjoyable, even for new players who rito loves to attract.

Katarina's ult scales with mythic attack speed bonus but Garen's E doesn't

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 10:09 AM PST

maybe overlooked, maybe they don't care, however the response from riot was rather uncaring, but:

-trinity force used to be the go to item for garen last season

-now it gives 10% attack speed / legendary item for up to 50% if selling boots at max build, however the mythic passive is coded as "temporary attack speed" for garen, meaning he doesnt get extra spins the more legendaries you get

-katarina gets more damage on ult based on AP / AD and attack speed, but unlike garen, she does get the 10% to 50% attack speed from the mythic attack speed bonus

im here to point the inconsistencies just

as an off topic im curious how didnt garen E apply on hits never passed but katarina passive / E and R appling on hits was agreed upon, curious what they smoke

Sweet Sweet Revenge, Ap Maokai vs Teemo

Polishing already existing champions should be the priority over releasing "new" champions.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 06:33 AM PST

Swain, Viktor, Katarina and Anivia are all recevied some quality changes over the course of the preseason or much sooner (Swain) and they all became much better more viable picks than they used to be and nearly all of them are on a balanced state ( Swain can play on every position besides jungle and Kata is still karen) so overall these changes landed pretty well.

Taliyah got a small amount of changes and her overall playrate skyrocketed from the least played champion into an 5.3% pickrate champion. This proves that Community would love to play champions that are less popular than Ekko if they are given some love and having an actual balaning on their kit.

Right now there is 153 chmpions in game and the plan to release 6 champions/year is a joke because there is no example in history where quantity toppled quality on long terms.

Look at this year's champion releases:
Sett, Volibear,(rework),Fiddlesticks(rework), Lillia, Yone, Samira, Seraphine and Rell.
Some of these champions has nothing unique and if not broken they ware vanished into the game without a memory of having something remarkable, or memorable in the. Broken as hellchampion like what Samira used to be who held 75% bann rate (still around 50%). Look at Rell. She's kit looked interesting on paper, but when I play her I feel like it's a Budget version of Leona. Seraphine is what a Sona rework would have looked like with some Aatrox in the mix while keeping her sleeper op. Yone is the mid-late game assassin version of Yasuo and his kit is even fitting to him looking at the lore and fanbase. To keep the interest in the game they should focus on updating less popular picks and increase their viability in the current state of the game by modernizing.

Please write down in the comment section when was the last time when you where excited for the release of a champion. Like really excited. Mine was perhaps Aphelios when the design is a champ is ot that good, but the kit is fenomenal. I'm still somwhat sad about he was OP the butchered down into nothing, instead of proper balancing (Hope runaan gold nerf helps him)

I just think the time of unique champions has gone and 2.0 version champs will be released more frequently. This would not be a problem if reworks and readjustments would happen more often than champion releases.

    https://lolalytics.com/lol/tierlist/

If you look at the pick rates here you will see how many champions are in need of love and quality changes (don't check winrates as they are tricky here because of the dedicated mains). Azir Kalista Trundle for example are in a really bad shape. Aurelion Sol needs mechanical changes or power shift to make him more approachable (play 2-3 games on him and you will feel you are playing with an unfinished champions who's kit is a mess, I dare you to test him) and Ryze is still waiting his next big rework.

Point is the already existing champions need so little love to become much better yet not game breakig picks.

If I can have a wish for new year I wish for more reworks and/or readjustments for the game we all love.

Have a happy new year all of you and stay safe.

Jungle would be more fun if people thought of them as scavengers

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 02:07 AM PST

I feel like people who have little understandings of junglers view them as the top predator of the food chain like a lion who choses on a whim who to help or not.

But the reality is all junglers start off somewhere in the middle like vultures.

They have little interest in the beefy higher level top laner or the vigilant bot laners who ward while not straying far from each other or their side of the lane.

A good jungler is always attracted to the scent of a wounded or vulnerable prey. But without either of these don't expect your jungler to have more interest in your lane over their or the enemy's camps.

It's once the jungler starts picking up kills and moving up the food chain that they can start acting like the apex predators they want to be that tear apart anyone who isn't them without fear once they have closed the distance.

How do I tell my friend that I don't enjoy playing with him?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 01:34 PM PST

I had a long post typed but accidentally refreshed so here is the short version.

My friend is nice outside of league but he complains about every instance of interaction in the game. You could play ap gnar and he would find a way to complain. It's normal to complain about some things but it gets to the point where I don't even have the words to respond so it becomes awkward silence. I've found that I mostly prefer to play without him.

Aside from this, ever since hitting plat, he has developed a massive ego. He searches everyone's winrate and makes sure to insult anyone who dares talk to him. He even asks people if they have a girlfriend or have had sex. This one stopped when they broke up. Lastly, he thinks he is godlike for climbing on his role. Yes he mains ADC. What should I do?

    Lore Stats in 2020

    Lore Stats in 2020

    Hi everyone!

Another year has ended, and so I return from my slumber. The Lore Tourney that seems to have become a tradition in the lore community is well underway (Semi-Final 1and Semi-Final 2) and even though I passed that responsibility off to u/maydaytaytay, there was another element to it: In the past, I used these to recollect the year, what we learned, found, were excited about. Of course, u/Sharjo already wrote down everything in a big post here, so I want to take a more analytical look at what happened in Runeterra during this year.

Where we started / How it's going

Last year, the state of the lore was the following: 33 champions needed a color story, and 27 still had short biography blurbs. Here's my end of the year post: The League Universe in 2019: A recap.

While it's sad to see the lore updates go (and not come back in 2020 as I had hoped), after this year, we are significantly better off. Here is how these statistics look now (153 champions up until Rell):

Completion Diagram, showing the different levels of lore that still need content.

Half of the short biographies were tackled, and 13 of the 33 missing color stories (in addition to 6 new champions). This especially affects the "missing" champions who had neither. Last year there were 19 of them, with the recent release of Gragas color story, that number was reduced to 7. These unfortunate Champions are Cho'gath, Corki, Kog'Maw, Olaf, Shaco, Talon, and Teemo. On the positive side, (more than) 95% of the cast now exist and have done something in canon.

(Note: I know that Olaf and Talon appeared in stories, but that's not the point, I'm just looking at the bio + color story combination here.)

Biography updates: This is either the first time they have a long biography since the Institute of War times, or small edits to make them more readable.

Diana, Leona, Alistar, Draven, Jax, Malphite, Singed, Kled, Fiddlesticks, Kennen, Braum, Fiora, Jhin, Aurelion Sol, Graves, Twisted Fate, Miss Fortune, Volibear, Trundle, Anivia, Ivern, Xayah, Rakan, Ahri, Yasuo, Riven, Bard, Taric, Zoe, Quinn, Sona, Elise, Caitlyn, Vi, Rengar

New color stories received in this year: Fiddlesticks, Kennen, Volibear, Tryndamere, Sejuani, Rumble, Yasuo, Riven, Sona, Udyr, Ziggs, Vladimir, Lissandra, Gragas

(Note: Fiddlesticks already had an old one, which was replaced. Riot will see if it can be recanonized, like Pantheon's.)

Sona exists! Gragas and Ziggs have a color story, even though they still need a bio. Ahri, Yasuo, Braum, and Miss Fortune had their biographies edited, probably to bring everyone to the same page and prepare them for their adventure in the Shadow Isles.

Our six new champions got both a biography and a color story, as it is customary for every release.

Some more updates to go along with their respective stories: Singed, Kennen, Jhin, Trundle, Xayah & Rakan, Riven, Quinn.

All in all, that's some very nice progress toward giving every single champion their due. On the other hand, it will take at least another year before everyone is updated, and it has already been way too long.

    The year in Runeterra

So, let's take a look at the content that was released throughout the year. Here is the region distribution for 2020:

Region distribution diagram for 2020, showing the focus on Ionia

Just like last year was the year of Demacia, this year is clearly the one with Ionia lore. Half of the champions this year were Ionian, then two Noxians with a pinch of Shurima, and one singer from between Piltover and Zaun. Other regions were Freljord and Demacia with a surprising amount of color stories. Finally, we had two comic series: Zed in Ionia (with a quick detour to Piltover and Zaun), and Harmonies in the musical Alternate Universe. Neglected were Bandle City and the Void as usual, Bandle only got one color story (which is set in Shurima), and the Void only got a mention in Jax's biography and proxy lore through Kai'sa and Monstrous.

In terms of the content that we got, I personally enjoyed every single thing (except maybe for one butchered champion release). Yes, it was very Ionia-centric, but there were still two very distinct topics to dive into: The Kinkou, and the spiritual world. Additionally, this was the first year that there were narrative threads that were consistently followed, be it Riven and the Sisters, Yasuo and Yone, or even Quinn, Garen and Cithria. The release of ongoing stories was one thing that made the flood of Ionia content bearable, and I hope for every region to get their share.

    Revelations

Okay, but what really HAPPENED this year? Well...

(The usual notes: This is not a comprehensive list, just the new champions and my personal selection of stories. Some details may vary, and it didn't need to happen in the "current year" in the lore, just had to be released in 2020.)

    New stuff

Our first lore game, Tellstones, was published. It's not only a game played in Demacia (especially by my favorite character Cithria), the game itself also was an incredible tie-in for Ryze and Bilgewater. See here and here for more information. I was blown away by the fact that they hid a complete second game inside that package. Secrets hidden in plain sight, indeed.

Despite the corona-infested year of 2020, which delayed a few things, the Zed comic was finished, and a complete comic in an Alternate Universe was released. It seems like the next main universe comic got delayed, I'm looking forward to updates here.

There were also other AU stories, including a multi-part story and one where players determine the fate of the universe.

The in-game events tied to the lore (Spirit Blossom and K/DA) both spanned multiple games with unbelievable new features (dating sim, anyone?), even though especially K/DA was a bit too much for me. Collectible cards depicting an alternate Universe in main Universe regions? Thanks, I would rather have canon reskins of these cards now that the event is over.

And last, but certainly not least, Riot released the long-anticipated Novella featuring Garen, Quinn, and Cithria. I could describe why it's great, but unfortunately, Reddit has a limited length for posts. I'm certainly planning to do another post related to the novella. Right now it's digital-only, but a physical edition has not been officially denied yet. So, there's hope?

    Looking forward

The first Riot Forge game, Ruined King, was unfortunately delayed, but it's still upcoming for 2021. Now that we have seen gameplay, it is definitely similar to the previous work of Airship Syndicate, Battle Chasers: Nightwar. I have not played that, but I believe it's a good thing. I'm looking forward to the artwork and small lore blurbs in the background!

Some other things we can expect are more comics, the season start cinematic, and hopefully a dev blog. Please tell us about the current state of narrative, especially the next comics. I also heard some talk about a new platform (something to replace the lost lore updates? Pretty please?), so we should definitely look out for that.

My personal hope includes more of what we had this year, including novella(s?), and maybe even a new Riot Forge announcement once Ruined King and Convergence are out.

Finally, Ghostcrawler admitted just in the last month that Riot is indeed planning to make an MMO. Then there are also the other games, the Projects, but like the new MMO, these are probably far away. If not, maybe I'm proven wrong the next time I'll post this. See you!

    Edit: Formatting.

Master Yi makes the entire match a headache.

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 04:29 AM PST

I am not called Master Yi overpowered but he is strong. But he makes the entire match a headache if you are facing him. He forces the enemy team to pick all CC champions because he lacks proper counterplay except for CCing him, and with this Duskblade build as well, he spends 75% of the teamfight invisible because of Duskblade and his Q spam making him invisible too.

So he either spends majority of the teamfight invisible while one shotting targets with Q lethality, or he builds Kraken Slayer and 75% of his total damage is true damage.

I've basically run out of room now, and in my shortsightedness I didn't save the transparent pics of the champions as separate layers so for the next release I'll either throw them up in the air or redo all of them.

Right now I'm not sure if getting to the point where I have to put champs in the air will look lazy or be a good meta commentary on the fact we'll be two champions past two full teams at that point.

Something I realised about seraphines release and why is was so messy

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 12:33 PM PST

So thinking back to earlier this year, Arcane was announced and we were supposed to get that late 2020. But due to covid, that date got pushed back to early next year.

With this in mind think about how long it takes for new champions to be released from initial thoughts to final design and I think whats happened is this: Arcane is being developed and they want to release a character from this story on its pilot. They go ahead and also make plans to have her be the new kda member or at least colab with them in that universe. But now Arcanes been delayed, and at the last minute they have to change her bio and story to not spoil anything about Arcane. At this point that can't delay her release because of kda either, so now they are forced to release her without the context of Arcane.

We can also gather a few things from the Arcane trailer. At one point we see young jinx with a case of hextech cores in some fancy looking building that she probably didn't live in. So what if the story is focused around jinx and vi, and the ethics of hextech cores and societal classes in piltover and zaun, with sera being a side character involved with hexcores. maybe jinx broke into and mansion to steal a core for seras hearing aid things, who knows.

This could explain why her back story felt so lacking on release; its had stuff taken out of it. But this is all speculation, I wanna just point out that the timing and location lines up to well for them to not have anything to do with each other.
