Seraphine is the biggest disappointment of this year.

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:17 AM PDT

This champion had a lot of hype, and it turns out to be Sona v2. It's really disappointing that this lazy-a** made champion is also having an ultimate skin, which is also another meme because it's just 3 skins combined into one, but you can only use one of them in game, I mean, seriously? Why not just release 3 different skins in a package? This is by far the least original champion riot has ever released, at least yone has some key differences from yasuo, seraphine is literally copy-paste of sona with double cast passive and some tweaks. This could have perfectly be a sona rework, but they decided to add a new champion instead.

How is Seraphine actually different enough from sona to be her own champion??

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 09:38 AM PDT

I get that champions like yone/yasuo Lucian/old graves all have similarities but they're unique enough to warrant being a new champion.

Seraphine legit looks like a vgu for sona, each ability is so strikingly similar and they even share a similar theme. How is this not just a vgu for Sona

[Facetious] Fans discover Sona Twitter Account where she is a failed LA artist that has thirty-two followers, spending her days drunkenly sending and deleting tweets directed at Seraphine from her parents' guest bedroom

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:40 AM PDT

"You stole my fucking plane trip," Twitter account @WashedBeatsSona writes to Seraphine, under a photo of her posing with other KDA members. "Better keep that mask on to hide ur traitor ass Mileena teeth you thief."

After only five minutes and zero likes, Sona deletes the reply. This seems to be a return to her senses... and yet just ten minutes later, she Tweets out another listless, angry message to the surging popstar:

"You with water = majestic chick, me with water = metaphor how I am fucking washed up. Fuck you just FUcK yoU"

This time her Tweet receives a single reply, a meme macro of Tanjiro Kamado from Shonen anime Demon Hunter staring at their phone in distress. She likes the reply, then deletes her original tweet.

Twenty minutes afterward, the musician becomes active again: this is not a reply to Seraphine, but a grainy, gloomy shot of a box television. It appears to be playing a scene from Casper's Scare School. The uncanny ghost is floating next to a chalkboard, grinning ear to ear.

Drunkenly, Sona captions: "im a joke and a ghost now caspr. teach me how to be a fuckin nobodyyyy"

This stays up for the rest of the night. In the morning, Sona appends an awkward message asking if anyone else really likes Casper's Scare School. This question receives one like from a bot account.

This is the existence of the Sona Brand Twitter. It's not a happy place.

Where Seraphine's own virtual journey has been filled with achievable goals and lofty underdog premises, Sona acted as the reflection: she lives a life of utter obscurity online, lost her shot to become famous, and is not a strong representative of self-care and positive thought.

"I just do them on fucking napkins," Sona tweeted on Saturday, for isntance. Pictured was a lit microwave in a dark kitchen. "Don't bother with plates anymore, they're just corndogs and I'm just me."

Sleuths first discovered the account when it replied to a Dominos tweet prompt, which asked "what's YOUR epic 'seize the cheese' moment?!"

Sona replied: "joined a metal band and tarnished my image. I seized the cheese alright. Go die, Dominos, your pizza is terrible."

Other mentionable Tweets in the last several months included:

    • A series of Tweets with images of Sona's old LA apartment, before the rent became too high.

    • A cover of an acoustic song on Soundcloud which got attention from the creator. Sona begged them for a chance to 'shine in the spotlight,' sending them ninety messages in an hour.

    • A Facebook motivational template post that reads, "only you could hear me summoner. And now there's no one."

    • Fourteen separate attempts to use her parents' poodle to start a "pets that are better than that shitstain Bao" thread.

Fans are a tad confused on whether Sona Brand Twitter is attempting to sell anything, or if it is meant to act as a foil to the Seraphine storyline. Either way, those interested in the account's growth should keep a tab open: she deletes messages almost as often as she sends them.

After Both Seraphine & Yummi, Can They Finally Make A Healer That's Different

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:08 AM PDT

It's just, I'm a guy, specifically a guy that mains utility mages, Enchanters, my most played role is support. I am content, for the most part, with the champions I have to choose from, their kits are all fairly similar but with enough subtle differences to keep them from being clones. However, with the release of Yummi, and now the reveal of Seraphine, I'm honestly tired of seeing the same thing over and over again.

My issue is not with gameplay, even though I genuinely believe Yuumi should be yeeted from the League roster and turned into an item and that Seraphine is little more than a reworked Sona. My issue is with thematic, VFX, and general aesthetic.

    Every single Enchanter more or less falls into the same category visually;

    • Delicate, often "floaty" or otherwise maintaining a certain lightness to them.
    • A bright cool color palette, pastels being near universal.
    • If not outright beautiful/sexually attractive, then demure and innocent looking.
    • Cheerful, altruistic, just by looking at them you can tell their morality is not in question.
    • A dramatically feminine character design.

Riot could do so much better then release yet another "so she's like super cute and heals people" champion, if they just put in like 5% more thought and effort. It feels like, because support is primarily played by female players, Riot is lazy and throws them the same design over and over again, knowing it will at least be tolerated. There's several character designs in the League universe they could use that would be more unique and interesting then Yummi and Seraphine.

Maybe a Frost Priest who's utterly devoted to Lissandra, using the power of dark ice to heal his allies and debilitate the enemy. Or one of Vladimirs devotees from the Crimson Circle, who steals the lifeforce of enemies to fuel their teammates. Possibly even a champion from the Shadow Isles, empowering their team with esoteric sorcery, like the Soul Sheperd from Legends of Runeterra. '

Literally anything aside from what we already have would be welcome.

Edit: Okay, wow, did not expect to get this much attention, my posts are all art or lore related and so get immediate downvoted. I'd like to take this opportunity to share a champion concept I actually created a while ago. They are a Frost Priest Enchanter, with magic vision. My skills are in the narrative variety, so I have written a biography and voice lines for them, as well as a general idea of what their gameplay is like. I also found some nice concept art of what I'd imagine them to look like. His name is Verdand.

I call it now, Sona will be reworked because of Seraphine - The Graves treatment

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:21 AM PDT

Graves was fine, Lucian came out, 2 champs were too similar, Graves (the older champ) was reworked. End of story.

The same thing will happen to Sona. She's the old champ. Seraphine is her in better (at least of the looks, dunno about the numbers). Somewhen in the next years Sona will be reworked.

You may call my prediction bullshit, you got all the rights to do so.

P.S.: I'm not salty, I like both (Lucian and Graves) as they are. This is just a prediction, nothing else.

If Riot are running out of ideas for the Ultimate skins, I wouldn't mind seeing Elementalist return on another champion.

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 12:25 PM PDT

With the newest Seraphine skin it's kind of clear Riot sort of forgot the main purpose of what an Ultimate skin actually is. Seraphine's 'ultimate' skin has 3 skins, 2 of which you have to unlock doing quests, and they are separate skins. You do not evolve into each form levelling up, you select 1 skin in the lobby, sort of like a chroma or skin bundle I guess?

To me I thought the point of Ultimate skins is that they evolve you into something new depending on reaching a certain milestone, such as level, damage, or kills. It got me wondering if Riot are actually running out of ideas for Ultimate skins, which at this point there's no point denying they are at least struggling slightly if they can call Seraphine's skin bundle an Ultimate.

With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing Elementalist return on another champion. It was a huge success on Lux and I think it's an amazing concept that I would love to see return on someone new. Sure it does ruin the originality of the concept but I think we can't beat Elementalist in terms of pushing the limits for an Ultimate skin, we can only make minor improvements to it with each go.

Seraphine shows how far off League is from its own lore

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 01:32 PM PDT

Sona 2.0 aside, she looks so basic. Her default skin isnt that much different from the KDA skin, its just a new outfit really. She doesn't look like she fits in the world at all. Born to Zaunite parents in Piltover and looks like she came from a completely different game. Only thing that connects her to this game is the brackern crystals she uses for her platform

Also she was hyped so much as K/DA seraphine, why should anyone care about the normal one? She doesn't look that different, what does she have going for her?

Out of all the 150+ champions in the game, this is the one that looks out of place surprisingly. That should say a lot.

    Ultimate Skins - 2020 vs. 2015

    Ultimate Skins - 2020 vs. 2015

Just figured I'd point out some of the differences between an ultimate skin that was released in 2015 and the newest Seraphine ultimate skin. I guess having to grind missions for the skins we pay for in 2020 is not the kind of thing we wanted from a new ultimate skin. IMO it would have been cooler to have progression like Pulsefire Ezreal for the Seraphine skin, where her skin would advance to the next career stage after using the ult for the first time after hitting level 6/11 (ult = concert = tickets = money = new outfit).

    Jhin is Riot's Magnum Opus

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 04:28 PM PDT

In light of the unanimous disappointment that is Seraphine, I would just like to remind everyone that Jhin is the most incredible champion Riot has ever created and is proof of what Riot is capable of designing when they have inspiration and are not blinded by market margins.

I recognise that, at the end of the day, Riot is a company and a company exists to make profit, but creativity and profit are not binary, they absolutely enhance one another.

Jhin is the most unique champion in the game. From a gameplay perspective (4 shots, fixed attack speed, guaranteed crit on every 4th shot), to a design perspective (faceless yet undeniably memorable), to all of the superficial aspets such as skins (Dark Cosmic Jhin is a work of art), to the mind boggingly brilliant voicelines done by Quinton Flynn.

No other champion has the same level of care, love and passion as Jhin does.

I would also posit that I do believe the only time Jhin ever has been broken was with the Guinsoo's Rageblade bug that gave him 1000+AD. Jhin has always been a well balanced, well-designed champion, dancing on the edges of top-tier but never actually stepping over the mark like other ADCs such as Caitlyn.

Jhin's various login themes are absolutely breathtaking and bursting at the seams with personality:

And let's not forget that he absolutely stole the show with that bow in the Awaken cinematic.

I hope that one day Riot returns to this level of creativity. I feel the most recent champs have been particularly lacking in that area. That isn't to say Riot has been lazy - the Spirit Blossom event was absolutely amazing. I'm more talking about actual champion design.

To quote the mad man himself:

Don't be fooled: the conspiracy behind G2 vs GenG

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 09:11 AM PDT

    My fellow Redditors,

After spending the last few days teaching me how to play Among Us, Dyrus and Tabe let me in a very well kept (dark) secret that I'm about to reveal you gys: G2 and GenG are actually the same team !

If the match really takes place on Sunday then there are only two conclusions: holograms or clones.

"But who will this benefit", you ask ? Ocelote ? KSV eSports ?

    No:

    G2 + G(en)G = G4

G4 was known as a BanGkok Titans and MeGa player, both holding one G in their name. G4+G= 5G. It was the 5G Coronavirus plot all along !

    Don't be fooled.

Not gonna lie, Base Seraphine looks more like a Cosplay design rather than some brand Idol from Piltover (Even if the look does make sense).

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 09:18 AM PDT

I mean, she does look like that but really she doesn't look all that different compared to her KDA design (Something that all the other KDA champs have, they look and stand out from their Runeterian counterparts, especially Evelynn but even the other 3 have design traits that really make them stand out as different too).

Kind of makes things less interesting ngl.

Seraphine's bio feels like it belongs to a skin

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:02 AM PDT

    https://universe.leagueoflegends.com/en_US/story/champion/seraphine/

When I was reading it for the first time, I wasn't sure if I was reading her KDA skin bio or her actual bio. We have champions who is trying to find themselves in inner political conflicts, champions who made big sacrifices for the survival of their nations, champions who had to suffer for years in the seek of redemption, misunderstood heros, forced-to-be villians, demons and other-wordly creatures threatining all life, cosmis entities, elder gods, mysterious spirits and here is Seraphine, trying make people happy by singing. Sona has a lot more going on. Seperated from her homeland and feeling alien to it, struggling to find peace in Demacian mage civil war. I don't know you guys but lore-wise Seraphine feels kinda off to me.

A flash juke so stupid that it works

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:54 PM PDT

I think most of the issues people have with Seraphine come from the idea that she isn't a champ made for the game, but to be a cash cow

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 03:07 PM PDT

    TLDR AT THE BOTTOM

I have looked at some of the comments regarding Seraphine and it appears that many of them circle around how she feels "artificial" from many different angles, and I think this might have been because she was made to make money rather than to contribute to the gameplay of LoL.

Let's look at some of the things:

    • A pop star champion

When you really think about it, does LoL ever needed a pop star champion? I could picture some other music themed champions, like a Piper of Hammelin or a siren-singer entrancer. But a pop star? Like an actual Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande-esque champ? I feel that Runeterra doesn't have a space for that. Even in Piltover, I imagine more Punk than Pop.

That's why our first interactions with her are through her K/DA skin, where a Pop artist can actually work. Unfortunately, this brought a lot more issues.

    • The K/DA Skin vs The Base Skin

All over her teases, we have met Seraphine mainly, if not entirely, by her K/DA skin. We all have heard about how K/DA has been a financial success, so it makes sense for Riot to expand the skinline. This makes sense at first, but then a problem arises when you try to adapt that new K/DA character into the game.

For the other K/DA members, this problem didn't exist, since they did the opposite aka. turning a kitsune, a ninja, a demon, and a monster hunter into a kpop group. However, when Riot tried to make a pop singer into a champion, I don't know why but they went for the cheap route of making her exactly the same as her skin persona. I just wonder, why they didn't try to make Seraphine a different character for her base skin?

By not making her someone different in the two skins and presenting her K/DA figure first, Seraphine feels out of place in the world of LoL and reinforces the idea that her sole purpose was to sell more K/DA.

    • The weird lore and the amalgamation of kit

Furthermore, since she might have not been made while having the game as first in mind, when you look at her actual LoL lore and her gameplay, both of them also feel bland and non-interesting.

In her lore, she is pretty much a copy-paste of her K/DA story of a rising star. Even the bits about the Brackern feel like a wasted potential (imagine if she acted as the voice of the Brackern, that would be exciting). But no, the Brackern feel left out and instead her bio focuses more on making Piltover and Zaun a better place by the power of music (this sounds so weird). Hopefully her color story brings out the other side.

But then we jump to the gameplay. It is apparent that she looks like a combination of Lux and Sona (range mage-enchanter with a lot of team fight utility and long range abilities). Compared to other previous releases this year, her kit looks too similar to champs already in the game. Coupled that her theme (a music mage) is too similar to Sona's without enough distinction, she just looks like a Sona 2.0.

TLDR. Seraphine's criticism might be because she appears to be created to make money first rather than to expand the game. Introducing a pop singer to Runeterra, having her K/DA story almost the same as her base story, and having a kit too similar to Lux-Sona are things that hardly make sense in the game or in the lore. However, they do make sense if the champ is set to become a cash cow.

As an extra note, if she was created to be a money making machine, it makes even more sense for her to have the ultimate skin.

Riot seems to be trying every single thing to make sure Seraphine stays a popular champ after release

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 11:52 AM PDT

She's not even out yet and she's getting an ultimate skin as her first skin, she's part of KDA an already existing popular skin line, and she's a mid lane mage which will appeal to allot of Lux players with all her abilities also being Skill shot reliant similar to Lux. Like I'm not one to hate on this, just thought it was interesting to point out especially compared to champs like Ornn, like I get if she gets all this treatment after release, but they're setting up her for success before release which is pretty blatant.

    Seraphine seems problematic

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 12:53 PM PDT

According to the lore, she knows her crystals are trapped/enslaved souls. Instead of trying to free them, she sells their songs to become famous.

That's a fine story for a villain, but isn't she supposed to be likeable?

Just Copy/Paste Lux's formula for future Ultimate Skins

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:55 AM PDT

Let's be real, Lux's skin is what most people expect from an ultimate skin: In-game evolutions, different VOs, VFX and the likes. Riot tries to innovate their formula each time, but honestly the bar Lux set is too high, so just go with it and use the same formula next time, no shame in doing so.

    Champion Insights: Seraphine

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 09:06 AM PDT

I would just like to remind everyone that this sub is not a good track record for opinions on unrelease/new content.

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 12:24 PM PDT

Wanted to make a quick short post, but I also wanna point out a Rioter already commented on the Seraphine/Sona topic.

I just wanna remind everyone of all the times we'd had content leaks and its been complained of the similarities of x y z, Lillia is a very good recent example. Also, I wanna mention that when Sona's ultimate skin was leaked a lot of people just said DJ Sona was a "Arcade Sona copy paste". Once people saw it in game that opinion did a 180 in the course of a week.

So before we bash on Seraphine and go off on how she's like Sona or has a poorly made kit, try her out on PBE first? I don't think her playstyle is going to be as much like Sona as you think. Reddit doesn't tend to have a good track record in its opinions on content that's been leaked/revealed. Especially since Seraphine hasn't even been played by anyone whose already critiquing her kit.

EDIT: wanna throw in another comment from a Rioter on the Sera/Sona argument. I think this explanation disputes a couple of arguments here as well.

    EDIT2:

I wanna quote a comment I made towards someone arguing "but the community is mad that Seraphine is a Sona clone and gave Seraphine the things Sona was nerfed for and put down for"

But Seraphines release has nothing to do with Sona aside from the design similarities. The problem is Riot doesn't fix champions that need it and the community is directing that anger towards this champ release. Call out the problem, not something completely unreleated to the problem. Riot removing Seraphine wont fix Sona, Riot changing Seraphine wont fix Sona and complaining about Seraphine doesn't help Sona at all. Rework Sona 2021.

TLDR of the edit2: Seraphine and Sona at the end of the day have nothing to do with eachother, Changing Seraphine wont fix Sona. Sona needs a rework.
