Dragon control starts before the dragon actually spawns

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:19 AM PDT

If you want to kill dragons and control the dragon area for vision you have to start before the dragon spawns. If you try to run to dragon as it spawns you will be running into fog of war and likely the other team. Running in blind puts you at a disadvantage and the enemy team at an advantage. This discrepancy can lead to lost team fights that feel like they should have been won.

If you want to control the vision around dragon you have to buy control wards and use them around dragon. That includes every player and lane and not just support. Winning a team fight becuase you control vision is worth 75g

STOP GOING TO DRAGON 5 SECONDS BEFORE IT SPAWNS AND FACECHECKING TO SEE IF YOU HAVE DRAGON CONTROL. PLAN TO GO THERE 1:30 BEFORE SPAWN. PUSH OUT BOT AND MID! BUY WARDS!

Edit needed for some people apparently: league is complex and large. Every post about general advice cant contain all the minute details about wave management, item timings, team strengths, and lane matchups. Those are more specific topics for different posts. This is general advice to get low level players started on the ideas of map control. They can learn to do it safely and effectively based on game state and lane state in a different post relating to those things

The Art of Warding in League of Legends

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:18 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I was little nervous about posting this one, but I started recently coaching low elo when I have some free time. I've been playing the game for quite some time now (7 years I think by this point) and I realized how important wards can be. This is especially true since I've switched between ADC/Supp often and even have mained roles like Top at a point. Utility is vastly underrated and I want to emphasize how wards can really change the tide of a game. Riot gives you warding trinkets for free and you should use them effectively.

I made this warding guide out of a desire to help some beginners and give a resource to lower elo players, . I think I can definitely improve on it, but for now I think it's pretty decent. I already know that one improvement I'd like to make is the actual where to ward image. Wards are extremely useful tools. They allow you to see an area and can often give you vital information. Everyone should contribute towards warding regardless of role. Vision (sight) can make or break a game! If you're a veteran, you probably want to skip ahead to the Tips & Tricks section. Otherwise, keep on reading and try to enjoy my MS Paint warding map!

I'd deeply appreciate any constructive feedback on this. I'm always looking to improve whether it's on the Rift or through a written article.

As always, remember to have fun in your games and be good teammates. No one enjoys a bad time in League of Legends and life is hard enough.

To Flash, or not to Flash.

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:04 AM PDT

There is always a time where you are forced to flash, you survive, but you ask yourself, "was that worth it?"

I am not that good at the game, and I could be completely wrong, but here is my take.

In early laning phase, 9/10, it is always worth flashing in for a kill, or flashing to prevent a death. This is to either start or prevent an early snowball attempt. You see when you die, you don't only give up 300 g's, if the enemy crashes the wave, or it is frozen, you will also miss tons of gold and experience on top of your death. Than you will always be behind until your opponent makes a mistake.

Then comes midgame. There are no objectives up, and you realize you are caught out, is it worth to flash? Well in this situation, you will give up some gold and miss a couple minions, but it depends on the type of champion you are too. If you are an adc, just die. You do not want to be one-shot next team fight if you misposition, just give up the one death, and move on. If your a playmaking champion like Vladimir, flash is essential to their kit as an immobile mage, you need to save that flash.

Have you ever had that moment where decide to flash defensively, and you die anyway? Well here are some tips.

    • Trading flash for flash will depend on the matchup.
    • If you can, take one second before deciding to flash, will this actually save my life, or can they still catchup to me.

    • Instead of flashing after cc, flash before getting hit. If you are for certain going to die after cc, don't lose half your hp. This if important especially for laners, if you can avoid death and avoid losing half your hp from a flash, its always better.

Add suggestions in the comments, I haven't posted in a while and my formatting is shit.

tl;dr: There is always a time and a place to use this 5 minute cool down, and you decide whether it will be worth it not or not.

Is it bad that i ignore krugs?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:16 AM PDT

I like to play jungle a lot, specifically taliyah. I have 300k mastery on her and do well with her in my games, but ive noticed something when i play, its that i will kill krugs about 3 times in the whole game on average. I just find they take too long and id much rather gank a lane or move on to another camp or take an objective, the only time i will do krugs is when im hovering top side to countergank or if no lanes are gankable and every other camp is on timer. Is this a bad thing, should i prioritise krugs more?

Quick Tip about killing Dragon/Baron as non-jungler.

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:05 AM PDT

I bet this happened to anyone. Your team is doing dragon, enemy is trying to contest and they eventually kill secure it.

Instead of blaming your jungler for his smite skillz, try to look on yourself. Because that might be you who used all or your burst abilities while that dragon was on 1k HP.

But seriously guys, junglers are not god-like creations who can see thru every frame. We calculate estimate dmg of our team + our combo along with smite to kill secure. And if you decide to simply autoattack entire time and use your abilities just to 'secure'. It can work quite opposite. (Well unless you sre Cho'Gath or Nunu)

How to raise to plat in the jungle

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:28 PM PDT

I made it to plat this season and here are some things that I thought about to perform better in the jungle.

    1) Track the enemy jungler

An easy way to do this is find out what side the enemy jungler started on, and guess what kind of route they will take. You can use your own position in your clear to estimate where the enemy jungle may be. You can use this to avoid the enemy jungler if they are stronger than you, or stay the same side and contest skuttle or counter gank if you are stronger, or your 2v2 is stronger.

    2) Make a game plan

One of the first things you should do before you even load into the game, is identify which lanes are gankable, and which lanes may be a win condition. For example if you have a maokai top, or a leblanc mid, you can most likely gank any time that your teammates basic cooldowns are up. Use this to find out which lanes are gankable. Additionally identify a possible win con based on your team comp and the enemy team comp, and use this to get the best lane ahead.

    3) play for winning lanes

If you have an 0/3 top laner, no matter how much he complains that you aren't ganking him, do not gank. There is not only a chance that the enemy laner will kill both of you, but even if you get a kill, your laner is only 1/3, and will still be far behind. Had you spent this time ganking your 1/0 bot lane, they would be 2/0, and be more ahead. Play for the lane that you can snowball a lead off of.

    4) Adapt

Jungling is all about adapting. Lots of times what I will do is if I full clear red side to blue side, get skuttle, and see the enemy jungler is bot side, or I am simply stronger than the enemy jungler, I can easily invade and steal his krugs and chickens assuming he full cleared, at around 4:00-4:20. What I like to do on graves, is go red, blue, gromp, then invade the enemy jungle if they are weaker, say an evelynn. If you do this play, be ready to leave if you don't instantly kill them, and their laners begin moving while yours do not. Another thing you can do is look at the lane states. If your top lane is slow pushing in your direction, be ready to be top lane as soon as the wave passes the halfway point for an easy gank. Another trick is that if you see the enemy jungler gank, and are reduced to low hp, you can invade if they greed and stay to do their camps.

How to safely follow your enemy laner's roams?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:23 PM PDT

Low Plat player here; I generally play immobile artillery mages mid, like Lux and Zoe. When against assassins like kata, talon and LB, who want to roam and snowball, I want to either follow the roam and try to help my side lanes, or shove mid for plating. However, these champs can very easily fake roam and kill me if I push in, or wait in a river bush somewhere and kill me there - and also usually have superior wave clear to me most of the early game. I can't roam willy nilly like they can, because I have no mobility to survive if I get caught on the way, and I can't push up because I have no mobility to run if they're fake roaming. Does anyone have any advice for what to do in lane against these champs?

How can I decrease deaths against teams that hard dive the back line?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 08:15 AM PDT

I play ADC, and just had a game against a nocturne, vlad, and Darius while playing Ashe. opgg is 69TreeLover. Just wondering how I can do better as an ADC. I know positioning is key and I do try not to go up too far but when noc can instantly jump to me from off the screen, Darius can ghost and run at me, and vlad can just go untargettable after proccing phase rush and run at me, I'm curious what I can do better. I also know ashe's self peel is quite good but I just am not quite sure what I can do better.

5 Tips and Areas to Focus On for Beginner League of Legends Players

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:57 PM PDT

We all hit that wall where we feel like we can't move forward. Matches become an exercise in constant vigilance and fear of feeding the enemy team. No matter what you do, your opponent always seems to have the edge. Here are 5 tips and tricks that will help you climb out of ELO Hell.

    1. Positioning, Positioning, Positioning

The biggest mistake players make when trying to transition from beginner to competitive playing is their positioning. Not knowing their attack range, being unaware of their movement speed and not knowing their opponents either.

How far away do you have to be to avoid Blitzcranks's Rocket Grab hook or Morgana's Dark Binding root? A good way to find out is to play those champions a few times. After a few games, you will be aware of the capability of their spells and attacks.

Once you've done that, practice baiting out key spells by weaving in and out of their range. This concept is called "tethering". For example, you can bait out a Thresh Death Sentence hook by walking in and out of the minion wave. When you see the hook coming, you can easily side-step it by walking out of it's range or back into the minion wave. When those spells are on cooldown, you can abuse that window to engage.

    1. Gold Income

They say the one that gets the gold wins the game and in League it has proven to be true. Gold income is everything. Getting core items faster than the other team and having stronger stats will win you the game.

The best way to earn gold is to be a proficient last hitter. Taking the final hit on minions will increase your Creep score, or CS, which will give you extra gold. 17 CS gives you around the same gold as 1 kill, so make sure to last hit those minions. LoL Dodge Game is a great way to practice farming, dodging, and landing skillshots!

Scoring enemy takedowns (kills and assists) will also increase your gold, especially if the enemy player has shutdown bounty on them. Taking down turret plating at the beginning of the game will also give you extra gold. Other forms of gold revenue include First Blood, First Turret, and taking down neutral objectives like Dragon and Baron.

    1. Destroying Turrets

Yes, team fighting in the jungle may seem the most interesting. However, neglecting your lane and not achieving objectives will result in a loss. There is a time to chase and there is a time to let the enemy come to you.

You should always aim to win your lane and then spread that lead to other lanes. You might have 15 kills from chasing down your enemies, but if their team has taken 8 towers, there is a good chance they will take your nexus before you can take theirs.

    1. Map Control and Awareness

Vision is incredibly important to being successful in League of Legends. Having vision helps you escape ganks from the enemy jungler, set up picks in the mid-game, have more control over objectives, and much more.

Buy control wards and place them in river brushes. Wards are best placed at river entrances, which helps you spot out a jungler entering the river. Check the minimap every 5-10 seconds to see what's going on around the map. Knowing where the enemy team is and where your team is essential to winning games.

    1. Teamwork and Communication

League of Legends is a team game. You cannot win a game on your own. While it's common for more experienced players to carry games, once you reach higher levels it becomes nearly impossible to win games without the cooperation of your teammates.

Be respectful in chat, use it only to discuss game strategy and cooperate with achieving objectives. Some people advise to mute chat altogether, however, you could miss important information if you do that. My recommendation is to mute individual players once you notice toxic tendencies. Those players probably aren't going to say anything useful in chat.

Pay attention to team pings and know your role and play to that. For example, are you a marksman, a tank, a healer or an assassin? Play to your strengths and the strengths of your team, and you will find yourself far more successful on the Rift!

The Best Way to Improve at League of Legends

    Posted: 12 Oct 2020 10:20 PM PDT

I see so many people on here posting about being hard stuck in silver gold ect. If you have 500 games played this season and have been playing since s4 and still can't get out of low elo its most likely because of your ego. Being hard stuck in low elo means you're not learning and for most it's because they choose not to. If you go into every game with a positive mindset and when you make a mistake you actively think about why that happened and what you could have done different you are setting yourself up for success. Some might say "I know I'm bad" but the reality is if you have thousands of games and still can't get out of silver it's you're ego.

How do you know when to dodge? i feel thats important factor for climb?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:25 PM PDT

What are some good guidelines for knowing when to dodge?

Sometimes is see something like "we only have ad, they will stack armor and win" and im like wtf i cant see that stuff so fast. (And i have lol friend who said dodging is also important in climb)

But also i dodge on feeling, i see teemo on my team i dodge now because i have seen more loses then win with teemo on my team.

What are some basic rules to always consider dodge, if you dont have good grasp about what counters what?

Btw im silver 2 now (my highest was gold 1 and lowest bronze 4) and i play since season 4. I dont have big lol brain since i dont wanna take study for serious climb, but i do like easy guide lines for climb based on skill.

The fact that I'm bad at league and cannot climb makes me depressed and feel a sense of un-accomplishment and worthlessness.

Exactly what the title says, I'm basically just depressed that I cannot climb and am looking for advice on what to do as I find joy in pretty much nothing else. It just seems that I'm bad at league and was wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction, thanks for reading.

How much can distractions prevent you from climbing?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:54 PM PDT

I have ADHD so whereas most people can deal with some distractions I seem to get affected 3x more by distractions than the average Joe. I literally need dead silence to perform my best. My concentration gets interrupted so easily I'd barely even be able to focus writing this small post if there were people in the same room talking right now. So imagine how much focus I need for League.

People are always coming and going where I live, talking, blaring TV/music, and tons of noise. The only options I have are to play late at night or when I come home at evening and it's still really noisy. I thought it was just coincidence at first, but I noticed when I play late at night, I'm hyper-focused and don't autopilot. EVERY time I've auto-piloted it seemed there was a lot of noise going on, the TV was on in the same room, etc.

Is it worth to just wait to play a couple games when I have the space rather than play a bunch with distractions? Has anyone else played League in a distracted environment, then switched and found a big difference?

How do you beat a relatively fed tank/bruiser?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 03:49 PM PDT

I searched and found a post from 2 years ago, so I wanted a fresh answer from you friends.

I am just gold2-gold1,so pretty low elo, and most of the time, when a bruiser or tank is on the enemy team, or our team for that matters, he gets a few kills, and he starts destroying everything, he doesnt die, and at the end, I check every time, and most of these tanks /bruisers do the most damage in the game, by only getting tank items, and maybe one damage item.

I am not complaining ofc, I know that this is wrong and an ADC or maybe APC should do more damage, but these are the cases in my games.

How do you beat these tanks? I am not talking about hyper fed ones those will mostly always win... just the relatively fed ones.

Why Conqueror over electrocute on Lee Sin?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 11:04 AM PDT

I feel electrocute is better overall, basically because the whole idea of Lee is having a stronger early game. I feel conqueror is more for longer fights, or duelists.

And electrocute sinergyzes with your role if you decide to pick up champions in the jungle or kill the adc in teamfight.

What can i do to win lane against Ornn ?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:47 PM PDT

I know that Ornn is a tank and should not do much damage but i don't think that's the case. For some reason i can't win lane against him. I main Jax and Sett and it is easier to fight him as Sett ( % health on Q) but i can never kill him. I can't kill him early and if i wait too long he becomes a chunky boi that you just can't do damage to. I build Bork on jax and sett ,for the % health dmg, as first item but he still cc's me and just kills me, is there something i'm missing. Should i favor short trades or all in him ? And what can i do against his knock up ? Stand away from the pillar or run at him ?

Im manly interested in a Jax vs. Ornn matchup.

Im low Elo so to some these are stupid questions but i'm seriously asking if it is even possible to kill Ornn in lane.

I hope i get some answers and sorry for bad english.

How does Fleet Footwork interact with Senna's innate movement speed on hit passive?

Terminology question: How long is a trade? A short trade? An extended trade? An all in? A fight?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:31 AM PDT

I'm trying to get people's perceptions on these turns. How long are champions typically trading blows? Between skilled players, when does something stop being a trade and start being a fight?

I've seen clips of people in low ELO just kinda trade abilities and autos until one of them dies, but I'm sure that more skilled players learn when they're losing and should back away. At what point in a fight does it stop being a "trade" and start being an "all in" or something else?

Looking for help with jungle Macro

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:47 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I'm a plat 3 adc main that shifted to jungle and I'm looking for help regarding macro.

I play a lot of Lillia, sometimes Eve, Kayn and Vi. I'm also learning to play Nidalee but she gives me quite a bit of trouble.

What are the questions is should be asking myself when playing jungle if i wanna reach diamond by the end of the season? I usually struggle to track the enemy jungler or properly reseting my clears etc. Invading is also kinda inconsitent. My friends have told me that i sometimes lack presence or impact. My biggets problem seems to be that i do well when my team does well, but if my team is not doing so well i struggle too.

Are there any guides i can watch regarding these issues? How can i improve?

How do I deal with troublesome early-game jungler?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:20 PM PDT

I've transitioned from top to jungle this year in order to improve and climb. I tend to use farming junglers that get stronger later in the game (lillia, skarner, shyvana, eve, etc.).

My problem right now is that I don't know how to maneuver around early game junglers that have fast and healthy clears. I fear to start at the same side of the map, only to reach top scuttle and get run down by a volibear that paints my screen with a grey tint.

I understand the path of aggresive junglers (and how they decay in late game if not extremely feed). But how can I outperform against these kinds of early-game junglers?
